Code BRIEF TITLE LED ZEPPELIN IV 40 TH ANNIVERSARY The Brief Considerations November the 8 th 2011 will mark the 40 th anniversary of one of the most reputable rock albums of all time – Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin. The brief is to design 8 limited edition 7” vinyl record sleeves for every track on the album that will be distributed through an issue of Mojo music magazine focused around the 40 th anniversary of the album. The response should aim to celebrate and state the importance of the music of this album through design that is something different to the aesthetics of Led Zeppelin IV. It would be good to maintain elements of the traditional aesthetic in a contemporary context. Concept/Proposition The main consideration is simply the celebration of the music. Something different and unusual must be produced that is recognised as something special and unique to reflect on the unique reputation of the album. What should essentially be considered is the creation of interesting, contemporary imagery that relates to Led Zeppelin. Pretty much a postmodern rendering of Led Zeppelin aesthetics. Packaging should be considered. Perhaps something different to a traditional 7” sleeve. Even print processes. An extravagant print process (foil blocking, UV varnish, embossing/de-bossing) may be appropriate. Background Mandatory Requirements Limited edition records are nothing new. They have been produced for bands and artists in the past many times. The whole idea behind them is that only a certain small amount of records are printed and sold making them valuable on first purchase and even more valuable as they gain age. They are a good method of communicating the cultural significance of certain music. A consistency between the sleeves is mandatory. They must work together as a set. All research and development should be recorded on Design Practice and Design Context blogs. Target Audience Deliverables This will be aimed at Led Zeppelin fans. Although not only Led Zeppelin fans, also 8x individual 7” proposed record covers and vinyl stickers
