Inflammatory responses• The innate immune system is our first line of defense against invading pathogens. • Initiates a vigorous and rapid inflammatory response to attack foreign pathogens• Plays a key role in activating the more slowly developing adaptive immune response.

o Activation of specific B and T cells to extend the host defense system• Innate response is carried out by a complex series of cellular interactions, collectively

known as the inflammatory response.
