QUELQU’UN, QUELQUE CHOSE ET LEURS CONTRAIRES
quelqu’un (somebody/someone)
ne. . . personne (nobody/not anyone)
J’invite quelqu’un.J’ai invité quelqu’un.
Je n’invite personne.Je n’ai invité personne.
quelque chose (something)
ne. . .rien (nothing/not anything)
Je fais quelque chose.J’ai fait quelque chose.
Je ne fais rien.Je n’ai rien fait.
QUELQU’UN, QUELQUE CHOSE ET LEURS CONTRAIRES
Ne. . .personne and ne. . .rien are negative expressions that require ne before the verb.• In one-word answers, personne an rien can stand
alone:Qui as-tu rencontré? Qu’est-ce que tu
as fait?Personne. Rien.
In the passé composé, the word order is as follows:

ne + avoir + PAST PARTICIPLE + personne
Je n’ai vu personne.
ne + avoir + rien + PAST PARTICIPLE
Je n’ai rien vu.

The past tense of the verb aller is formed as follows:

WHAT’S THE PATTERN?
When forming the passé composé with the verb aller, follow this formula:
1. Subject2. Conjugated form of être3. Past participle (allé)4. Agreement with the subject added to the
end of the past participle.
*****NOTE: you do NOT have to make this agreement with “normal” passé composé!*****
AN ADDITIONAL RULE:
SAMEDI MATIN:1. Philippe est allé en ville.2. Mélanie et Sylvie sont allées au stade.3. Claire est allée à la plage.4. Patrick et Ousmane sont allés à la pêche.
SAMEDI SOIR:5. Claire est allée au cinéma.6. Patrick et Ousmane sont allés à un concert.7. Mélanie et Sylvie sont allées à un rendez-
vous.8. Philippe est allé chez Corinne.
