Single Whipstitch - The Single Whipstitch, or over-and-over stitch, isappropriate for a single thickness of leather or when the thickness of theleather does not require complete coverage by lace. This stitch is used insmall projects such as key cases, comb cases, etc. The lace required isfive times the length to be laced. Start at the corner or end hole. Insert working end oflace, rough side up, into the front of the starting hole.Pull it through, leaving 3/4" on the side facing you. Slip this 3/4" between the two thickness of leather. Ifonly one thickness is being laced, slip under adjacent loops. Bring the working end of the lace over and through the front of thenext hole. This will hold the short end in place. Pull it tight. Repeat previous step until the last stitch is completed in the final hole. To finish off this last stitch, slip the working end of the lace under thelast stitch. Pull it tight from the inside of the article and cut it off short.

Fold the project with the outside facing you and startlacing at the point where the inside of the project caneasily be reached. On wallets, it is usually at the side, while on purses it should be about four holes from thetop to the gusset (the diamond shaped insert in seam). Insert the working end of the lace, rough side up, intothe starting hole. Pull it through, leaving about one inchof lace on your side. Hold this end or tail so it stands up. Take the lace from the back starting hole and the tail, going from right to left. Hold it in place until the secondstitch is done. From the front, insert the working end of lace into thenext hole. Pull the lace through until you have a loopabout one inch in diameter. Bring the working end of the lace over and through this loop. To tighten this second stitch, pull the lace at back of thehole until tight. Then pull working end of the lace to the left until it is tight. Repeat the three steps above until the last stitch is completed in thehole next to the starting hole. Make two stitches in each corner hole. This will make your project look much neater. To finish off stitching, pull the tail out of the loop at the starting holeand insert the working end of the lace through this loop. This loopmust be in the same position as when the tail was in it.

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. J1 (Ephesians 2:10, NIV)Following good directions when working on a leather craft or any craftproject is a necessity. Without them, you might make mistakes that wouldcause the project to come out looking funny or incomplete. If you makemistakes, your project would be far from perfect. If you do not complete yourproject, it would not be useful. The same is true of our lives. We've been given perfect directions to followthrough Jesus Christ. If we decide to put the pieces of our life together ourown way without His direction, we disregard His perfect plan and ourusefulness for Him is wasted. We need to do what God wants us to do and allow Him to fashion our livesaccording to His plan. Let's follow His directions for our lives and not ourown plan.
