Lease Plan Inventory Management

Bibz.com Training Sept 2014

Why lease plans…

• Teen reads are trendier than kids books. – Your average 16 year old in 2015 has already read

Twilight or is “So. Over. It.”

– Your average toddler is still reading/being read Dr. Seuss

• When the movie version is released you’ll need multiple copies. Next month you won’t.

• Space restraints. Most teen sections just aren’t big enough to hold everything forever.

How do I know how many books are in my inventory?

Read your monthly account statement. NOT Receiving you monthly account statement? - Check to see if someone else

in your organization is receiving the statement

- Contact [email protected] to update the reporting email address onfile

The number of books in inventory on my monthly statement is WAY less

than what’s on my shelves.

Word problem: There a 41 YA Books on a library bookshelf. The number of books in the reported McNaughton inventory of the library will be X. Solve for X. Be prepared to show your work.

Show your work: Even though these are LEASED books, the McNaughton plan allows libraries to keep, at no additional charges, 3 out of ever 10 books. The number of books a library is able to keep is automatically calculated each month and reflected in your inventory report on the “retention” line. 41 Books on the Shelf – 12 to retain --------------------------------- 29 books in inventory

Any loss/theft discovered now will be reported after retention has kicked in. 41 books on a shelf – 12 retained books – 4 loss/damaged -------------------------------- 25 books in inventory

When should I ship books back?

• Whenever you want!

• If a book has not circulated/been used in 3-4 months.

• When you run out of space.

• When you no longer need multiple copies.

• ALL INVENTORY must be returned or purchased within 90 days of the contract ending.

How do I ship books back?

• Depends on how many.

• You can pack up a few each time you receive new shipments and send them back.

• If you have bulk shipments a freight pick up can be arranged.

• Contact Barb Fritz to receive prepaid USPS/UPS mailing labels and freight details. ([email protected])

Can we keep all the books?

• Yes – but it will cost you.

• Will the Navy General Library Program cover this additional expense.

1st Technically none of the money used to fund the summer reading program is the NGLP’s – we just spend it on behalf of OUSD MC&FP

2nd NO. The money the funds the McNaughton accounts has now been transferred into “points”. You must by inventory with dollars NOT points.

This is harder than ordering kids books we can keep forever. Can I just move my YA Points into my kids account?

• No. Kids points have a different dollar value than YA points, it’s apples & oranges.

• But our library isn’t really used by teenagers! – Do you have new fun books teenagers actually want

to read?

• Seriously. Our base is super small and we only have a handful of really young families. – That’s fine. We can move your YA points to bases who

can use them. – Don’t forget: Junior Enlisted personnel are Young

Adults. Have you bought any graphic novels lately?
