Overview The Government of Alberta (GoA) Learning Management System (LMS), hosted by Noverant,
Inc., is a web-based application for delivering online programs and courses for Alberta Public
Service (APS) employees. The LMS is an interim solution until the new One Government
Experience (1GX) Enterprise Resource Planning implementation is complete.
The purpose of this guide is to introduce learners to the GoA LMS and help them use the system
efficiently. Sections and topics in this guide are arranged with time and ease of use in mind.
Getting started Several terms and concepts are important to understand before getting started. These terms can
be found under “Type” when you search/browse for an object in the LMS or under a course in
your Home link.
Documents – Documents are virtually any type of electronic media, ranging from Word, PDF,
PowerPoint, video, hyperlinks and others.
eLearning – Presently, eLearning mainly comprises self-paced, non-instructor-led content.
Program – Programs are composed of a group of eLearning courses. An example of a
program in the LMS is Effective Frontline Communication.

Logging in The steps for logging into the GoA LMS to access any learning object are as follows:
1. Click on http://goalms.alberta.ca to go to the LMS.
Note: Noverant works best in Chrome. If Chrome is not your default browser, then copy and
paste the link into Chrome.
2. If you are connected to the GoA network, you will see a button to Log-in with GoA
Credentials. This will automatically log you into the LMS. If you are not connected to the GoA
network, then you will be prompted to login using your GoA username and password.
3. A personalized homepage or screen appears with your name at the top right corner. This
shows all the eCourses assigned to you and their due dates. Overdue eCourses show their
due dates in red. Upcoming courses display the due dates in blue.

2. Required Training displays all courses or programs that has been assigned or pushed to
you. These courses are termed mandatory/required and they will have dues dates, that is, the
dates that they need to be completed.
3. Optional Training displays courses or programs that you have searched/browsed and
registered for using the Browse Catalogue menu. These courses or programs have no due
dates and you can remove them from your records without seeking authorization.
4. My Records displays your transcripts of all courses and/or programs that are completed, in
progress, and mandatory courses that you haven’t started.
5. You can search for a particular program, course, or document using the Search Catalogue
box on the Home page.
