Procedures in Food Lab
• Tie all long hair back, remove rings and watches. Put on your apron.
• Wash hands with soap and water before beginning to work with food.
• DO NOT eat during food preparation. DO NOT lick fingers or spoons.
• Dispose of garbage immediately. Do not leave it on the counter.
• Use the proper kitchen utensil for the job.• Stay in your own kitchen.• No fooling around!!!!• No one eats until all of the dishes are washed and
put away and the kitchen is tidy.• You must wear closed toed shoes during food
labs!
General Kitchen Safety
• Keep all cleaning products away from the cooking area and food storage areas.
• Clean up spills immediately to prevent slips and falls.• Never sit on the countertop. Do not leave cupboards
or drawers open.• Turn the handles of pots and pans towards the back
of the stove or counter. Use the back burners for cooking whenever possible.
• Never leave a boiling pot or sizzling skillet unattended on the stove.
• Never put anything metal into a microwave.• Keep all electrical cords away from water.
Clean Up Duties
• Cooking groups may not leave until their kitchen is cleaned and checked by Mrs. Zablosky
• Wash dishes in HOT, soapy water.• Put dishes and utensils away in their correct
places.• Sinks need to be cleaned of food particles, rinsed
and dried with a tea towel when the dishes are completed.
• Taps need to be wiped.• Stovetops, counters and cupboard doors need
to be cleaned and wiped. • Dirty aprons, dish cloths and towels are to be
placed in the laundry hamper.

Fires in the Kitchen• In case of a grease or pan fire…• Turn off the stove. Smother flames with a pot lid
or larger pan, if possible. Protect your hand with an oven mitt or wrapped dish towel.
• Use of an approved portable fire extinguisher only if you are familiar with its safe operation.
• Never throw water or use flour on a grease fire.• In case of an oven fire, close the oven door and
turn off the oven. Never touch or attempt to carry a flaming pot. The contents may spill, spread or burn you.
