Classes are 25 minutes long, and students are asked to be ready to start their lessons at the appointed time. Should a student be placed in the wrong class for their ability, an alternative will be provided as enrolment numbers permit. LEARN TO SWIM INSTRUCTORS: All instructors are qualified and holders of a Swim Teachers Award, and may have also attended the Swim Teachers Award Course. If possible, your child will be taught by the same instructor for the duration of the term. ABSENCES: If a lesson is missed due to illness, the Aquatic Centre should be notified prior to the lesson beginning. If two or more lessons are missed due to illness, the lesson cost can be refunded or credited upon receipt of a medical certificate. Notification should also be provided for school camps, holidays, etc., but credits or catch-up lessons cannot be provided in such circumstances. PRIVATE LESSONS: A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required if you are unable to attend your scheduled private lesson, however if you provide us with a medical certificate we will reimburse or credit you for half of that missed lesson. Any private lesson for which we do not receive the minimum notice of cancellation, one lesson will be deducted off their lesson concession card. CATCH-UP LESSONS: These will only be offered where we have been unable to fulfil a class commitment (due to unexpected staff absences, or other circumstances) on the scheduled day. Thank you for understanding. EQUIPMENT: The equipment provided for Swim School lessons is for the use of instructors and students only. REFUNDS: Full refunds are available only if the Whakatāne District Aquatic Centre is unable to provide a suitable class after payment has been made. Refunds are also available where a child withdraws from a class BEFORE second term lessons commence. A $10 administration fee will be deducted from these refunds. TERMINATON: Whakatāne District Aquatic Centre reserves the right to terminate a student’s enrolment for any of the following reasons: Non-payment of fees by week 3 of the current term; The student’s behaviour is, in the opinion of the instructor, disruptive to the class and attempts to resolve the problem have not succeeded; Serious misconduct in or around the pool area by either a student or parent/caregiver; and Any other reason whereby, in the opinion of management, continuation of a student’s enrolment in Learn to Swim Lessons may cause safety issues or bring the centre into disrepute. PARENT/CAREGIVER’S RESPONSIBILITY: All children under the age of eight years must be ACTIVELY supervised by a caregiver (sixteen years or older) AT ALL TIMES, including during lessons.
