The Challenge

Johnsonville Sausage is a family-owned enterprise dating back to 1945 founded by Ralph F. and Alice Stayer in Johnsonville, Wisconsin. They are currently the leading brand of sausage in America with about

1600+ members. Johnsonville sausages are currently available in all 50 US states and across 40 countries. Its 65-foot Big Taste Grill travels across the country each year, and has raised more than $4 million for a

variety of charities over its 22 years on the road.

Enterprise information access at Johnsonville Sausage was split between Enterprise NW Portal, Fiori, Business Objects Launchpad and other legacy applications leading to a lot of time spent on accessing different systems to get to the data. The IT Leadership challenged Visual BI to deliver a single point of entry for all applications through Fiori Portal.

We were also challenged to build dashboards that were fully responsive across all devices (Desktop, Lap-tops, Tablets, Phones) and all platforms (Windows, IOS, Android), build dashboard applications that can be consumed by all user groups (Executives, Managers and Analysts) with a high emphasis on Usability, UI/UX Design, Interactivity providing Actionable Insights backed by superior visualizations. This also served to replace static legacy reports which had outlived their usability in a highly dynamic sales and forecasting platform.

How VisualBI Addressed these challenges

Single Point of Entry:Johnsonville Sausage chose Fiori as their enterprise portal and Visual BI helped integrate their SAP Business Objects Design Studio Dashboards into the Fiori Launchpad and helped realize the Enterprise vision of having all enterprise applications in one place using Fiori. This involved publishing existing design studio dashboards to Fiori and providing a consistent UI design and experience across applica-tions. More details on how SAP Business Objects Design Studio dashboards can be published to the Fiori Launchpad is available on Poovin Kumar’s blog below.http://scn.sap.com/community/businessobjects-design-stu-dio/blog/2014/12/10/sap-design-studio-on-sap-hana-integration-with-fiori-launchpad

Responsive Dashboards:Since the goal was to deliver executive dashboards that were responsive and scalable across all devices and all mobile platforms – Visual BI recommended that Johnsonville Sausage leverage our Responsive UI Container as part of Visual BI Extensions (VBX) as a solution. More details on how the responsive UI component works is available on Ingo Hilgefort’s Blog on the same http://scn.sap.com/community/businessobjects-design-stu-dio/blog/2016/01/21/making-your-dashboard-responsive--in-a-simple-way

Visual BI leveraged our agile discovery methodology to come up with the dashboard design to ensure that it provided a superior user experience and allowed for enhanced adoption across all levels of information consumers at Johnsonville Sausage. This was achieved using:

► The Advanced KPI Tile that is responsive and can quickly provide actionable insights on key performance indicators ► Our Patented Time Period Selector to slice and dice the dashboard application across various time filters ► Our hierarchical filter component to leverage Johnsonville Sausage’s standard sales and mar-keting hierarchies in the dashboard to see the way their products were being sold and marketed

Overall Implementation Timelines and Accelerators

All this was achieved in a timeframe of close to 8 Weeks including design, prototyping and actual implementation. This was possible largely in part due to the usage of Visual BI Extensions (VBX) which provide an extensive library of custom Design Studio Components which reduced the need for custom scripting and accelerated dashboard development significantly. To Learn More – Come and Join our Customer Johnsonville Sausage at ASUG BI & Analytics Conference in New Orleans, LA (http://analytics.asug.com/) Session 6312
