WELCOMEIn this semester’s catalog, you will find an incredible variety of learning opportunities for all ages, interests, and skill levels. In addition to the 16 acres of outdoor gardens and a tropical conservatory, this year we are excited to have you come learn at the Gardens in the new Frautschi Family Learning Center! It is the hub for talented instructors, inspiring subject matter, and fun social connections we hope to foster during programming this semester at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. Rounding out the myriad of opportunities provided, the Olbrich Gardens Book club will be returning this semester by popular demand. Read one or both books selected by our Horticulture Librarian, and plan to join her and other readers for a free discussion and to share your reading experience.

Due to your increasing engagement in Olbrich and its education programs, the dedicated education space in the Frautschi Family Learning Center showcases three flexible classrooms and one outdoor classroom. This allows us to offer multiple classes simultaneously, remove room dividers to make one large classroom for group learning, host more students for signature programs like the Explorer School Program, and offer more programming on weekends to connect you with the plants and the natural world around you. Another benefit of the new learning center is the outdoor public observation deck! Be sure to visit it as the weather warms – you will find plenty of comfortable seating to kick back, relax and take in the view.

Olbrich Botanical Gardens is excited to announce this year’s garden theme – ELEMENTS. Numerous classes and workshops related to the elements are offered this year. Learn more about how the elements relate to the gardens through interpretive signage available to you in the outdoor gardens and conservatory as you visit throughout the year. Help us kick off Olbrich’s 2020 garden theme by attending our free, Olbrich-wide open house on Saturday, February 15. Element related activities will be available for learners of all ages!

approachable guide to ferns. He had done background

reading, which added to the interest of specific ferns and

their history. Many of the participants asked questions

and the conversation was lively throughout the walk, which made the experience a very enjoyable community

The Brownies loved the whole program, but their favorite activity was investigating the owl pellets. They quickly went from, “Ooh, this is gross!” to “Look what I’ve got!” They dove right in and learned so much about what owls eat and what they can’t digest. As they teased each owl pellet apart, they loved discovering the skulls, the sliver-like rib bones, and bits of fur. They really stretched their boundaries, and all of the girls became a bit braver and more confident.
