Artist Pass Spotlight

Make mac your creative destination with our flexible Artist Pass scheme, offering affordable access to our Dance, Music and Visual Art and Design studios. Develop your individual ideas and practice using our excellent new facilities.

mac’s Artist Pass provides an opportunity for creative individuals who are experienced and confident in their own practice to work without guidance in our studios spaces.

Those with less experience who are interested in what the pass scheme has to offer can, after taking a course in discussion with their Artist Tutor, be recommended to apply to the scheme.

All successful Passholders must attend an induction before using the studios.

A limited number of passes for Jewellery, Painting & Drawing, Sculpture, Textiles, Music & Performance Studios are available and, following a successful application process, will be issued on a first come first served basis.

Applications can be downloaded from mac website and are available at the Sales and Information desk.

Inua EIlams The Midnight RunSat 13 Aug, 6pm – 6am, Tickets £5

One autumn eve in 2005, London, too impatient to wait at a bus stop, a decision to walk the bus route led to six hours of drifting across the streets into the small hours of the morning. Surprised at the thrill and discovery of the peace and beauty of the city, it was recreated the following summer, for 12 hours.

This time it is Birmingham’s turn. Walk, run and talk with Inua EIlams and a group of invited artists as they lead you around the city on a Midnight Run. Exchange the frenzy and hysteria of mass media, pop culture, hype and reality TV for actual reality. The idea is to reclaim the streets, dispel the notion of danger after dark and try to discover after dark.

Can’t make the run? Come and find out what happened at a sharing event on Sun 21 Aug, 6pm.

For more information and to book your place visit www.macarts.co.uk or call Sales and Information on 0121 446 3232.

Participants must be over 18 and take part at their own risk.

Children’s courses and workshopsParents should take their children to the studio where the activity is being held and collect them promptly at the end of the session. No previous experience is required by children to take part in any of our workshops or courses. Where indicated, parents should remain with their children throughout.

AgesCourses and workshops have been developed and planned with specific age ranges in mind and we ask you to keep to those suggested.

MaterialsThe cost of materials for visual arts courses for children is included in the fee. We do however sell a young person’s art pack which is available from the studio. For adult courses, we only supply basic materials, and with tutor guidance, learners then should provide their own. Some basic materials including paper are available for sale.

Pottery workshopsThere is a charge for finished pieces that includes clay, firing and glazing. Please allow up to three weeks for firing before collection and where possible please contact the Visual Arts technician to arrange a convenient appointment (tel: 0121 446 3229). Tutors will issue young people with a receipt for their work, which should be brought to mac when collecting work.

LunchFor all day workshops, children will be accompanied by Learner Support Workers at lunchtimes but lunch is not provided by mac.

ClothingWe strongly recommend that young people wear either old clothes or an apron for any visual arts course.

BookingEarly booking is recommended for all courses – mac reserves the right to cancel courses that do not reach minimum number of bookings up to two days in advance.

YogaAdults should bring their own yoga mat.

Cancellations made after this time will not be refunded, unless we have to cancel a class due to circumstances beyond our control. Depending on availability, if after one session you decide that the learning programme you have enrolled on is unsuitable and notify us within 48 hours by contacting the Sales and Information team; we will endeavour to transfer you to another programme of your choice but cannot guarantee this in all cases.
