To Whom It May Concern:

We work at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and serve as advisers and interns for the

Leadership Education and Advising Program (LEAP). This program was established to educate

incoming first-year students on how to be an impactful leader both inside and outside of the

classroom. Students who are enrolled in LEAP are matched with an upperclassman to serve as

their Peer Mentor. A Peer Mentor is a student leader that has been selected and trained to assist

with the first year student’s transition from high school to college. Throughout the year, students

in LEAP undergo leadership development in areas such as academic success, interpersonal

relationships, and student involvement. Within just one summer of recruitment, we had over 70

first year students sign up to participate. These students had the opportunity to move into their

residence hall early and spend three days interacting with both the peers and mentors. After the

selection process, mentors and mentees were matched, and their relationships immediately

flourished. Programming also continued throughout the academic year.

In order to provide these opportunities to students, we need your help! We would appreciate your

business participating in this process by making a donation to LEAP. Through your donation, you

are investing in the development of future leaders and providing them with diverse leadership

opportunities. We thank you for your consideration, and we are certain our students will thank

you too!

As of now we have approximately 130 students enrolled in LEAP and we are still growing. All of

these students are involved on campus in many diverse organizations; therefore the influence of

your company will not be limited to just LEAP. If you are interested in partnering with us, please

see the attached Sponsorship Packages. If you have any questions or would like to discuss our

sponsorship package feel free to contact us [email protected]. You may also contact any of us

personally as listed in the signature. Thank you in advance for your support. We look forward to

working with you.

Thanks Again For Your Consideration,

Leadership Development Series

The leadership development series consists of three elements: Peer Mentors, Leadership Education, and Destination Unknown.

Peer Mentors. The first element of this series takes place a

week before classes start. This event is called the LEAP Experience. The LEAP experience serves as an orientation for students to the LEAP program, find a few potential mentors they click with, and get paired with their mentor. After the LEAP experience, the students stay paired with their mentor and meet at least once a month to check in on one another.

Leadership Education. After the LEAP Experience, we

will continue the development of the students through educational sessions and activities. Each semester students will have the opportunity to attend lectures on various topics. The word lecture sounds boring, but LEAP lectures are not. We strive to have entertaining and captivating speakers who can connect with our students.

Destination Unknown. The last element in the leadership

development series is Destination Unknown. This takes place once a semester and consists of community service and fun! Essentially, students will sign up to take a short, typically no more than a day, trip with us. They will not know where we are going or what we are doing. Sometimes to buss pulls up to a water park, IMAX movie, or corn maze and other times it pulls up to a community service site. Students love the element of surprise!

These are three elements of the leadership development series that incorporate fun and a little bit of learning. Our goal is that through this

series students can learn how to be a good leader on campus and one day take these skills with them on whatever path they choose to take after

college!
