BMS group of Institutions is managed by BMS Educational Trust

(BMSET) with five trustee members constituting the Council of

Trustees.

The Chairman of Trust is Dr. B. S. Ragini Narayan. She is also the

Donor Trustee and Member Secretary, BMSET and the

Chairperson of BMS Degree College for Women and BMS Evening

College of Arts and Commerce. The other Trustees are

ProfileB. M. Sreenivasaiah College for women is an offshoot of

B. M. Sreenivasaiah Educational Trust. The college was

founded in the year 1964 by Late Sri. B. S. Narayan. It is

a premier institution dedicated to the cause of

education for women in Bangalore.

The aim of the institution is to mould the personality

of every student with a holistic approach - to make

students academically sound, mentally alert,

innovative, culturally strong and socially responsible.

Administration of the college is under the purview of

the Trust. All curricular and co-curricular activities

are carried out under the able stewardship of various

Heads of the Departments and members of the

department. Keeping pace with present day

challenges and needs, the institution is providing

modern facilities to the students.

Recognizing the achievements of the Institution,

NAAC has awarded the College 'A' grade thrice in 2004,

2009 and in 2016.

Our students have consistently secured ranks and

100/100 in individual papers in University

examinations. The Management encourages

meritorious students through cash awards.

BMS College for Women was founded with a noble vision to empower women and

motivate them to excel in different spheres of life. Managed by BMS Educational

Trust, the institution has a strong academic foundation. For 55 years the

institution has promoted excellence and the National Assessment and

Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accorded “A” grade to the institute for three

consecutive times. The institution is multicultural and multiethnic in character

and fosters a vibrant and inclusive learning. We aim to motivate students to

Admission ProcessCollege SessionSemester scheme is followed for all the courses.

Calendar of events will be in accordance with

the regulations of Bangalore University for III

year & Bengaluru Central University (BCU) for I

and II Year.

AdmissionsŸ A student seeking admission should submit an

application to the college in the prescribed

form on or before the specified date.

Incomplete applications will not be

accepted.

Ÿ Selection of candidates will be done as per

Govt. rules. The list of selected candidates

will be notified on the college notice board.

Ÿ After the provisional admission, the student

should furnish details in the University Portal

and submit the same to the College office

before the due date, else admission will not

be approved.

Ÿ All admissions are provisional and subject to

the approval of Bangalore University & BCU.

Selected students should submit the following

ii) Transfer certificate in original

iii) Two recent passport size and one stamp

Karnataka State have to furnish migration

of their caste, parental income, should

submit their income certificate and caste

certificate for the current academic year in

original along with an attested copy.

Instructionsto studentsSchedule of Fees

Ÿ The schedule of fees for the various courses

offered at the college and the charges for

the service rendered at the institution will

be notified at the appropriate time on the

College Notice Board.

Ÿ The prescribed fees, in full, shall be paid on

or before the date specified.

Scholarship and Free Studentship

Ÿ Applications for scholarships and free

studentships will be considered in

accordance with the rules framed by the

Government of Karnataka/ Government of

India.

Ÿ Scholarships are liable to be withdrawn at

any time if attendance, progress or conduct

of the student concerned is not satisfactory.

Ÿ BMSET Merit scholarships are awarded to

meritorious students.

Attendance

Ÿ A minimum of 75% attendance in each

subject is mandatory. The list of

students with shortage of attendance

will be periodically announced.

Students with shortage of attendance

will not be permitted to appear for the

final examination.

Ÿ Application for leave must be

submitted to the Principal. A student

absenting herself for more than three

consecutive classes should report to

the Principal with her parent or

guardian before being permitted to

attend classes.

Rules of Discipline

Ÿ Student should be punctual and regular in

attending classes.

Ÿ Students should wear their ID cards whilst on

college premises.

Ÿ Indulgence in any form of ragging will be

dealt with stern action as per rules.

Ÿ Assignments should be submitted to the

teacher concerned before the stipulated

time.

Ÿ Inattentiveness and indifference in classes,

discourtesy towards members of the staff or

any act which affects the discipline of the

college or any other disorderly or improper

conduct will be viewed seriously and the

concerned student will be promptly and

severely dealt with.

Ÿ Students have to dress in formal attire.

Ÿ Students are not permitted to use cellphones

in the premises of the college. The phones

will be confiscated and the student will be

penalised if found using.

Ÿ Absence without leave for assignment/test

shall be considered as an act of indiscipline

and calls for disciplinary action. Leave of

absence may be granted only by the

Principal, to whom all such applications

should be made in writing prior to the test.

Ÿ Ragging in any form is prohibited.

Ÿ Students should read and follow the “Code

of Conduct”.

Ÿ Littering, defacing the walls & furniture and

committing disturbance in the premises of

the college is punishable.

Ÿ Students are prohibited from organising or

attending any meeting in the college except

those permitted/organised by the college.

Circulation or distribution of any hand bills,

notices, indulging in business activities, etc.

without the permission of the Principal is

forbidden.

Ÿ Students are not allowed to approach the

Management of the college directly.

Ÿ An act of indiscipline will entail suspension

or removal of the student from the rolls of

the college.

Examinations

Ÿ Tests & assignments are held periodically for

all classes. On the basis of class performance

& attendance, Internal assessment marks

will be awarded.

Payment of Fees

Ÿ Students admitted to the college for the first

time (freshers) have to pay, in addition to

other fees, admission fees and University

registration fees.

Ÿ Fees once paid will not be refunded.

Ÿ If a student, after paying the prescribed fees

is subsequently awarded freeship, the fees

paid will be refunded to the extent

permissible under the relevant rules and

regulations.

Ÿ Students who fail to remit the prescribed

fees, as specified above, shall not be

permitted to attend the classes and to

appear for examinations.

Ÿ The college has the right to retain their

certificates and to take appropriate action

to recover the arrears of fees.

Ÿ Stringent action will be taken in case of

default.

StudentsŸ Every student who gets herself admitted to

degree course should wear the identity

card/badge (with photo), issued by the

college.

Ÿ The students should check the Notice Boards

every day for general information.

Ÿ Students are warned not to bring large

amount of money or expensive articles to

college. The college is not responsible for

any loss of money or articles. The college is

also not responsible for the vehicles parked

in the college premises.

College LibraryŸ Housed in a spacious hall with a reading

room and a reference section, the library has

more than 50,000 books, 13,000 reference

books, and subscription to 42 magazines and

50 national & international journals. UGC

book-bank facility is also available. An extra

cupboard of books in the library is set up by

the Bangalore University for SC/ST students.

80,000 e-books and 4,000 e-journals are

available under Inflibnet N-List programme.

Ÿ Has institutional membership in IIMB, IISc,

British Council Library and Bangalore

University Library.

Medical ExaminationŸ Compulsory Medical Examination by qualified

doctors is arranged annually at B. S. Narayan

Memorial Hospital for all students.

Ÿ The college has a Health Care Centre with a

visiting lady doctor.

InsuranceŸ Students are covered under insurance. In case

of injury due to accident while commuting to

and from college up to an amount of 50,000/-

or hospitalization expenses will be reimbursed

on production of bills.

GeneralInformation

National Service Scheme is a Government of

India programme to promote the all-round

development of youth. As per guidelines issued

by the Bangalore University regular/special

camps are held. Several extension activities are

organised by the unit.

SportsŸ Provision is made for training students in

games like Badminton, Kho-Kho, Volley ball,

Throw ball, Hand ball, Cricket, etc., by

appointing expert coaches.

Ÿ Facilities are provided for indoor games.

Ÿ Yoga, Karate and Aerobics classes are also

organized for physical & mental well being.

Ÿ Students are encouraged to participate in

intercollegiate competitions and cash awards

are given to individual champions by the

Management.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

National Cadet Corps is a Tri-Services

Organisation comprising of Army, Navy and Air

force, engaged in grooming the youth of the

country into disciplined and patriotic citizens.

It aims at:

comradeship and ideals of service

Ÿ Stimulation of interest in the defence

services of the country

Ÿ Building up of a reserve of potential officers

to enable the armed forces to expand rapidly

in a national emergency

Student Welfare Association

The Student Welfare Association organises and

conducts co-curricular and extra-curricular

activities for the intellectual and cultural

development of the students. The Association

activities are organised by the Student Welfare

Officer. Office Bearers of the Association are

elected through a secret ballot. Students are

encouraged to participate in all the college and

inter-college activities/competitions.

Student Counselling Centre

A Student Counselling Centre has been instituted

in the college in association with the

Department of Psychology and trained

counsellors. Students can approach the centre

for assistance and guidance in matters of stress,

strain, fear or any personal problem. They can

also seek guidance from the clinical psychologist

appointed by the college. Vocational Guidance &

Counselling is also provided.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell

(IQAC)

Ÿ Internal Quality Assurance Cell is involved in

quality sustenance and enhancement

activities.

Lasya - Focus Cultural Club

Ÿ Set up with an intention to mould the all

round personality of the students through

various activities like Salsa, Aerobics,

Bharathanatyam, Music, Sugama Sangeeth,

Bonsai, Karate, Yoga, Drama, Cooking,

Beautician Course, Handicrafts, etc.

Ÿ German, French & Japanese Language classes

are also offered.

Alumni Association

Ÿ Alumni Association of the college is a

registered body. All the students of the

institution are members of this Association.

Placement Cell

Ÿ The Placement Cell of the college arranges

for campus interviews from reputed

organisations like Infosys, TCS, HP, IBM, etc.

Ÿ College is moulding the students to identify

their area of interest according to their skill

through Career Guidance Cell.

Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell

Ÿ In pursuance of guidelines issued by Supreme

Court, UGC and as per the provisions of the

Sexual Harassment of Women at work place

(Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal Act,

2013) an Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell

(Internal Complaints Committee) named

“JAGRUTHI” has been reconstituted for the

effective enforcement of the basic human

rights of gender equality and guarantee

against sexual harassment and abuse and to

provide a harassment-free atmosphere in the

campus to all the employees and students.

Bharath Scouts and GuidesŸ Bharath Scouts and Guides unit was started in

2014.

Civil DefenceŸ Civil Defence Unit was inaugurated in 2014,

in order to fulfil our motto of empathy and

train students to face emergency situations

such as natural calamity and disasters.

Youth Red CrossŸ Youth Red Cross Unit was established in 2015.

It encourages students to take part in various

education and training programs.

Ÿ The college also has Women’s Cell, Gender

Sensitisation Cell, Equal Opportunity Cell &

Eco Club

Ÿ The college discovers aspiring and budding

talents through Talent’s Day programme,

which is held for two days.

Ÿ The college acknowledges the immense

support it has received from the teachers

since its formation by honouring them on

Teacher’s Day.

Ÿ The college celebrates Karnataka’s

attainment of statehood and cultural

strength on Kannada Rajyothsava.

Ÿ The college believes in promoting scientific

outlook by celebrating International Science

Day.

Ÿ The college remembers the great visionary and

its founder B. S. Narayan by celebrating March

3rd as Founder’s Day.

Ÿ Guest lectures by speakers of national and

international repute are arranged by each

department to mould the inquisitive minds.

Best practicesŸ Student mentoring system: The student

mentoring has been a time tested practice in

the institution which has met with enduring

success and has proven to be beneficial to

students for holistic development.

Ÿ Janapada Jathre: It is celebrated in the

college to make the students to revisit their

cultural roots, appreciate the past glory of

our region through the folk festival. The aim

is to familiarize with customs, rituals and

life styles of our ancient folk art.

Ÿ Vanasiri: Adopting public and private spaces

to plant saplings, nurture them into trees so

that environmental awareness is created

among students.

Ÿ Student Entrepreneurship Program:

Encouraging budding entrepreneurs among

students by helping them to conduct on-

campus exhibition-cum-sale of essential

commodities, offer skill-based services, etc.

5. Cash Prize to State Awardees in Sports:

Cash prize is awarded to a student who

receives a state award in sports.

Ÿ The college celebrates the spirit of

womanhood by sensitizing them on issues

related to women on International Women’s

Day.

Ÿ The college has a parents relation centre to

establish cordial relations with parents and

discuss various issues regarding their wards.

Ÿ The Sports Department organises ‘Zeal,’ an

inter-college sports meet.

In all matters, the decision of the Principal is final.

Issue of Certificates

Ÿ Transfer Certificates will be sent directly to

the Institution to which the student joins on

receipt of a requisition letter from the Head

of the Institution. It will not be issued to the

student/parent/guardian, directly.

Ÿ Applications for the grant of transfer,

character or other certificates may be

submitted to the Principal along with the

prescribed fee receipt. The certificates will

be issued within a week from the date of

submission of such application.

Ÿ A duplicate transfer certificate will be issued

only if satisfactory reasons are given and on

submission of an affidavit along with the

prescribed fee.

ParentsŸ Reply to correspondence from parents is

made only if accompanied by an appropriate

self-addressed stamped envelope.
