We Welcome You To United Way of the Cape Fear Area’s
Leadership Appreciation Reception
For Tocqueville & Harriss Newman Society Members
January 16, 2014
Dear United Way Friends,
Tonight we celebrate you! We honor and thank you for your ongoing generosity, commitment and dedication to our Cape Fear community through United Way of the Cape Fear Area. It is because of you that our local communities are becoming a stronger place to live, work and play. Through your generosity, over 53,000 impoverished area residents have gained access to food this past year alone; more than 22,000 area students succeeded because they had access to resources that focus on academics, arts and vocational enrichment; and almost 12,000 Cape Fear Area residents now have access to crucial dental, medical and mental health services. YOU have made a difference each and every year and continue to be an integral part of finding long-lasting solutions that create essential change in the Cape Fear Area. Your generous gifts, combined with the gifts of others, allow United Way to fund the most critical programs that address the most crucial needs, right here, in our own backyards. For that, we thank you! Sincerely, Ed Murray, Chairman of the Board Paul McCombie, 2013 – 2014 Campaign Chairman United Way of the Cape Fear Area

We were delighted to announce the formation of the Women’s Leadership Council within the United Way of the Cape Fear Area in 2013! All women who currently donate at the Leadership Giving level ($1000+) individually or through combined donations with a spouse are automatically qualified to join us!
What is the Women’s Leadership Council?
We are a network of women who are standing up and taking action to address our community’s most critical issues through investments of leadership, fundraising and community service. All activities are in conjunction with and supportive of the United Way of the Cape Fear Area mission. Members take a hands-on approach to drive positive change in our community. Beyond an annual financial investment, members can invest their time, expertise and talent to advance causes for which they are passionate.
There is power in numbers and as the Women’s Leadership Council grows, so will its impact on the community. Your involvement in the WLC can offer a wide range of benefits:
The opportunity to make positive changes in peoples’ lives. Opportunities to network with other leaders in work and social
settings. Invitations to special local events featuring noted speakers and
women of influence. Recognition as a community role model in event programs,
United Way of the Cape Fear Area literature and press releases.
Hands-on volunteer opportunities.
As our 2013-2014 initiatives we have chosen to partner with the YWCA and Phoenix Employment Ministries. Both organizations have programs designed to aid women and men in their personal and educational growth, gaining self-sufficiency, as well as finding and keeping employment long-term.
As a Leadership Circle donor, you’re automatically qualified to join!
Your level of participation in United Way‘s Women’s Leadership Council is up to you. If you would like more information or to be included in future correspondence, please forward your contact information including email address to Kim at (910) 667-2478 or [email protected].
Sincerely,
Anne Murray, WLC Chair WLC Steering Committee Jennifer Adams, Vice Chair Wendy Buckland Kim Nelson Renee Pavkov

10 YEAR PLAN TO END CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS’
5TH ANNUAL PAJAMA PARTY
March 28, 2014 / Shell Island Resort, Wrightsville Beach
Put on your PJ’s and join us for a fun-filled evening! There you will enjoy dancing, a silent auction, breakfast buffet, a fashion show, complimentary wine and beer and even a PJ contest. The 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness, a United Way of the Cape Fear Area initiative, has facilitated a community-wide collaboration that has significantly reduced homelessness in the Cape Fear Area during the past five years. The Pajama Party has become an annual reminder that not everyone in our community can retreat to the safety of a home at nightfall and enjoy the comfort of warm pajamas as they retire to bed. For more information or to receive a sponsorship package please contact Liz Makley at (910)798-3900 X120 or at [email protected]. Tickets are $45 each or $350 for table of eight and can be purchased at:
