Our goal is to motivate, inspired young leaders by providing them with the necessary tools to have positive outcomes in their lives, the lives of others, and their community.

WEEK#1LEADERSHIP SKILLS:

Objectives: SWBAT understand the idea of leadership SWBAT identify the qualities of a great leader SWBAT recognize inspirational leaders in their own lives

QUOTE OF THE DAY:“LEADERS ARE NOT BORN, THEY ARE CREATED”Explain the quote on your ipad.

1) INTRODUCTION: Define leadership- group discussion about leadershipStudents in pairs will analyze and discuss the quote “Small body, big voices.”

WEEK#2 Building Relationships and trust in order to be a great leader

Objectives: SWBAT review their understanding of leadership SWBAT understand relationships and the Importance of trust SWBAT explain what makes a good healthy relationship and what Makes a bad relationship

2.) Introduction to relationships: Group discussion: Define Relationships.

Ask students: What does it mean to have good relationship? What are the Characteristics of a good relationship? Of a bad relationship?

3) Students write a short paragraph using the following writing prompts

How do relationships start? Who are the people that you have relationship with? Describe your relationship with 2 others people in your life What matters the most in the relationship? What can you do make a relationship better? Why do you need relationships?

WEEK#3BULLYING

Objectives: SWBAT to define bullying SWBAT understand the consequences of bullying SWBAT learn how to handle bullies

1) INTRODUCTION: Group discussion on bullying-analyzing the quoteBullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance

WEEK #4

Violence Prevention

SWBAT explain how violence affects a societySWBAT understand how to prevent violence

1. Introduction: Define Violence and violence protection Love, Respect, peace and by treating others the way we truly like to be treated.

2. Group discussion: What is violence? What does preventing violence mean to you?

3. Using computers research the following famous leaders who used non violence to gain rights and freedoms for their people and communities-create a power point presentation or poster board presentation on your findings. Students will present their findings

Students will answer the following prompts-Background of the leader- early life, education, hobbies and interests- Location of the leader and his followers-Cause the leader was fighting for. - How the leader used non-violent methods to achieve their goals- What the leader taught society?

Week # 5 Positive Thinking

SWBAT understand the idea of positive thinkingSWBAT to differentiate between positive thinking and negative thingSWBAT create ways of changing their thoughts

Goal: This program will help the Leaders of Hope to understand their thoughts and illustrate how the power of positive thinking can change and improve their life. The workshop will teach students that maintaining a positive attitude will drive them to success and happiness at school and home.

Student will learn about Positive thinking- What is Positive thinking?- Why should we use it?

Small group activity: Students will get a list of Positive thinking ideas that deal with depression and have a group share out explaining the quotes(Here are few Examples)

*I feel good about myself *I love school *I make friends easily *I know I am Important

*I do well in school *Yes I can & Yes I will Students create a poster board with two heads –using thought bubbles they write in negative thoughts on one side and positive thoughts on the other. On the poster board they write a short paragraph explaining how the positive thoughts can turn the negative thoughts around

Week #6 Civic Awareness

Objectives: SWBAT understand what civic awareness is SWBAT understand their place in community and society SWBAT create a short film on civic mindfulness

Goal: This program is designed to teach The Leaders of hope the fundamentals of making a short film, from the development stages of writing a script and drawing a storyboard to filming a 5-minute short film. Students will be introduced not only to the craft of screenplay writing, but also to directing, producing, acting and cinematography.

Strategy: The Leaders of HOPE will introduce students to filmmaking, while developing civic awareness and leadership skills. Students delve into the crafts of screenwriting, directing, producing, acting, cinematography and editing. The facilitator guides students through the choice of a school/community-based topic meaningful to them. Students learn to make decisions as a group and to take responsibility for individual interdependent tasks. Students engage in structured, task-oriented interpersonal communication and problem solve as individuals and teams. The core activity is making a short film 5 min in which students are the writers, actors, producers, directors, editors, and film crew. Students engage in on-going reflection on process and product. Steps: Introduction-Overview of Program & ProductionPre writing- student start writing a script on bullying, self awareness, relationships, violence or responsibilities as good civic citizens

Peer and teacher editing of scriptsPre-Production/Working Together a CrewProduction-Video shoots – all the students will work together in the creative production of the shoot.Watch videos and have group discussion

Time: 2 Weeks
