Latin American women, particularly among the population bottom 40%, have always been the core of family’s economic and moral support and have played a crucial role in the containment of poverty.

Often this role has not been a shared task, they have done it single-handedly.

Product of migratory processes -internal or international, endemic violence situations arising from guerrilla or organized crime, or simply as the result of neglect, spouses in many cases have been absent.

Our Project commits itself to them, recognizing women capacity to boost development and redistribute family income in favor of growth, equity, improvement in health, education, housing, food and the general well-being of their environment.

HOGARES MENOS VULNERABLES Y MAYOR CALIDAD DE VIDA

Over a Decade of Major Transformations

The incorporation of women into working life and their participation in the family economy during the last 15 years has allowed to gain important achievements. Progressive qualification of the population, poverty reduction and their determination for an inclusive development model are among the most important impacts at a regional scale.*

LESS VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS & HIGHER QUALITY OF LIFE

› Revenue contributed by women has allowed for households to be less vulnerable to crisis situations.

› Levels of schooling among working women children have increased, particularly at preschool and upper middle education.

› Household income redistribution earmarked for wellbeing: education, health, housing, food.

› Significant improvement in women´s and children health as well as the maternal mortality rate.

› Cambios normativos en proceso o formalizados a escala regional para el empoderamiento de la mujer y la equidad de género. Normative changes formalized, or in process at a regional scale, favoring women empowerment and gender equity.

* Mean values and indicators for Latin America, according to World Bank reports and its Equity Lab portal.
