Leader: Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?

Confession of SinLord Jesus, you limited all your greatness into the cramped quarters of our human nature that we might know the limitless power and privilege of being your children.

You became helpless in the womb that we would know you as our only help and redeemer.

Christmas 2011

1. The Messiah would be born of a virgin mother.

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. “ Isaiah 7:14 (701-681BC)

2. The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,

who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,

from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel,

whose origin is from of old, from ancient days.

3. The Messiah would come from the tribe of Judah.

The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.

4. The Messiah would be a descendant of King David.

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.”

5. The Messiah would come from the root and stump of Jesse.

“In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.”

6. The Messiah would be from Galilee. “But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. 7. The Messiah would come out of Egypt. “ When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.”

8. The Messiah birth would trigger the massacre of infant boys.

“Thus says the LORD: “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.”

10. The Messiah would be rejected by the religious leaders.

“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.”

11. The Messiah would die for our sins. “But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.
