What We Learned Along the Way

Model the Way

Clarify your values – after a discussion with our

advisors, we adopted the theme “Trust and Integrity”

because we believe that it is the basis of leadership

We designed the program was to create a format for

an annual leadership program that can be built upon

Page 12: LEAD Clermont Leadership Day Final Report

What We learned Along the Way

Inspire a Shared Vision

Once the theme was selected, we designed the flow of

the seminar and chose speakers who would inspire our

participants

We enlisted the speakers to present information that

would illustrate how they would animate the vision

Page 13: LEAD Clermont Leadership Day Final Report

What We Learned Along the Way

Challenge the Process

When hurdles came along, we assessed the situation

and decided as a team on how to address them. We

celebrated small wins, such as finding ways to cut the

budget

Page 14: LEAD Clermont Leadership Day Final Report

What We Learned Along the Way

Enable Others to Act

We brought in speakers that could address how to

build trust in organizations. They encouraged us to

develop new competencies that would build trust with

others, and they gave us confidence to act

Page 15: LEAD Clermont Leadership Day Final Report

What We Learned Along the Way

Encourage the Heart

Through the process of developing this program, we

encouraged each other to use our strengths, and

recognized the contributions that each person made

Our team supported each other when we experienced

problems, problem-solved together and kept each

other laughing

Page 16: LEAD Clermont Leadership Day Final Report

What We Learned Along the Way

Even though we did not have one “leader”, we had

a team of capable leaders who were self-directed

and committed

There is not just one way to lead – we each have

different styles, and we capitalized on them. We

also gave each other enough room to make a

contribution without questioning, just support

Given a big project to accomplish with a team of

unfamiliar people was scary but taught us how to

pay attention and encourage each other
