Ogni giorno il trasporto su ferrovia toglie dalla strada decine di migliaia di auto ecamion, garantisce spostamenti in sicurezza di persone e merci, contribuisceefficacemente alla riduzione dei gas serra e delle altre sostanze nocive emessenell’atmosfera.

Più ferrovia meno inquinamentoGrazie ai trasporti ferroviari merci che i clienti ci hanno affidato, nel 2017 siamostati in grado di movimentare circa 40 milioni di tonnellate di merci, con 1,3 milionidi tonnellate di CO2 risparmiate all'ambiente rispetto al trasporto su gomma,sottraendo1 milione e 500mila TIR alla strada.

The Iron & Steel area works in the sector with rail solutions that featureflexibility and personalised services, both at an Italian and aninternational level. These are integrated with warehousing, roadtransport and loading and unloading logistics services. Byspecialising in ferrous scrap, steel coils, semi-finished goods, longgoods, tubes and railtracks, we can offer large transport capacitiesin terms of weight, volume and size, including oversize andexceptional loads.

The unit provides rail and logistic services to MTOs (multimodal transport operators), tolarge Italian and international freight forwarders and to the main shipping companiesfor the transport of containers, swap bodies, semi-trailers and accompanied trucks(Rolling Highway). MERCITALIA Rail also develops these services with other companiesfrom the Polo MERCITALIA that work in the intermodal area. International work is carriedout with TX Logistik and other European partners, ensuring the client gets the most suitablesolution in terms of price and efficiency. Innovation is a strategic development driver for MERCITALIA Rail. A new app for smartphones and tablets has been designed, available for both Androidand IOS, to monitor the transport of our customers' freight. The app enablescustomers to track their transport as it travels, and to visualise the planning for thefollowing two weeks. Information on main events is sent to the customers with automaticpush notifications: departure, transit through intermediary stations, arrival. Functionsare also available to allow customers to interact with MERCITALIA Rail for train loadingand unloading.

The app, available from July 2017 for all MERCITALIA Rail customers, will makeit possible to monitor consignments everywhere in Italy. A later update willextend its scope to other countries and introduce new functions such asprogramme changes.
