1. How can I identify my own type ofpresentation?
• What type of presentation am I suppose to do?
• How much time am I given?• What must I include in my presentation?• How is it graded / evaluated?• Do I need audio visuals?• Do I need elaborations?• Will there be Q & A after my presentation?• Who are my audience?
You need to ask these questions to
yourself…
Then,
• What are my strengths? How can I use them?
• What are weaknesses? How can I overcome or minimize them?
• Do I have any fears as a speaker?

• From where exactly should I start speaking?• Do I need visual aids? If I do, can the audience be
able to see it clearly?• Will I be able to make eye contact with my

• Giving a speech to a large audience• Telling ways of doing things• Reporting news• Training a group of people• Promoting a product• Teaching a lesson
The different activitieswould have its own aim and objectives:
Aim: A general purpose that you want to achieve
Objectives: The more specific things that you want to express or say

• You must show real interest in your topic• Be lively and cheerful as it can be
infectious• Use appropriate attention-getters to attract
your audience especially your friends from the other kulliyahs
• Use appropriate attention-getters to relate directly to the purpose of the presentation and to focus on the topic
The Attention-gettersYou may use• An anecdote• An appropriate quote• A controversial, thought-provoking statement• An extremely short but appropriate joke• A relevant question directed to the audience

• You should use accurate words and grammar to deliver meaning
• You should be knowledgeable and well-versed in the topic presented
• You should present reliable and valid ideas and supports
• You should be precise and should avoid too much jargons
In a good oral presentation,
Generally speaking,
You should• be very confident• be fluent• be enthusiastic about the subject• be interesting• be in tune with the audience• be easily understood• be entertaining / humorous• be in control• try to keep the audience involved
Your language should
• have few errors
• Be clear
• have good and effective sentence structures
• be in the argumentative tone

• a clear summary of the term paper with the complete content given
• well organized, coherent

You shall be judged by 3 things
• The way you feel about the topic, the audience, and him/herself
• The way the presentation is organised
• The way you delivers the presentation
You should observe other speakers.• What did the presenter do or not do?• Why was the presentation poor? Any nervousness-mannerism, repetitive movements? e.g.
swaying from side to side, playing with pen, persistent clearing the throat etc.
Inadequate preparation? Difficult to follow? Pitched at the wrong level? Alienating the audience? Boring? Too long?

• You want your presentation to be smooth.• What will you have to do?• Rehearse, rehearse and rehearse!!!• Your timing MUST be right.• Avoid reading from notes. You just need
points.• Practice speaking in front of the mirror or
your friends or your loved ones. Get them to comment on your presentation.
