What do you think readers will find most notable about this book? I hope the book gets a wide readership within the social sciences,  but  the  likely  audience  are  Irish  and international scholars of gender, and particularly what is referred  to  as  masculinities  studies.  People  unfamiliar with the field of masculinities will probably find the book highly  critical  of men,  though  I  hope  they  see  it  as  a critique  of  the  particular  practices  associated  with dominant men and masculinities.   Did  researching  and  writing  this  book  teach  you anything or influence your thinking in any way? Yes,  of  course many  things.  It  has  taught me  that  it  is extremely  difficult  to  find  time  to  write  and  develop academic  ideas.  The  role  of  the  lecturer  in  developing ideas, and challenging dominant ones, and disseminating them, as well as the amount of time that this involves is poorly  acknowledged  or  rewarded.  Our  role  does  not begin and end in the classroom!  What would you most  like readers to tell others about this book? The message of  the book  is  that men  can,  and  should, share  intimate care work equally with women; men will lose out somewhat when  they do but  their  lives will be enriched also.  Can  you  suggest  one  question  readers  might  find interesting  to  discuss,  concerning  you,  your writing  in general, or this book? The big question we face is a profound one, what kind of society do we want to live in and leave to our children?   How can readers help you promote this book? Read it first!

Why do you write?To  develop my  ideas.  I  find  the  best way  to  develop ideas is to write and teach.  What is your greatest strength as a writer? Apart from being interested in my work, I’m diligent and highly  motivated,  a  great  advantage  when  trying  to write.  In  addition  to writing, what  else  are  you  passionate about? My  family.  I  see  so many academics working  intensely hard  and  very  long  hours.  I  make  a  point  of  not neglecting my family in the process.
