from our Social
Emotional Learning
programme from Jurong
and Temasek Secondary
School were part of the
invited guests for this
special night. These
students, having been
involved with us
throughout the year, have
benefited greatly from
the programme. These
students were a great
highlight during our
Anniversary videos,
As the crowds started
entering the Grand
Mercure Roxy Hotel
Ballroom, observers
would notice a mix of
different ages all dressed
up to be a part of the

Dinner. Although LCCS
has been involved in
changing stories and
transforming lives of
many youths involved in
our school programmes
and activities, this
anniversary would be the
first for many things.

applause after each segment.
This was an impressive
performance considering the
East View Primary School
students had only began
learning the skills from the
mid of 2010.
Guests of our opening
ceremony of the SWS @
Bukit Timah Centre would
have also recognised our
guest singer, Chen Wei Kiat
from Jurong Secondary
School who performed 2
smashing hits, Wedding
Dress & Poker Face on
keyboard and vocals.
The Unsung Heroes
This night was not only just
for the celebration of LCCS
8 years of continual efforts
in Changing Stories,
Transforming Lives of the
youths. On this night, we
also took the opportunity to
bring forth the unsung
heroes who not only
contributed their time, but
also their resources and
efforts as volunteers with
LCCS. Involved in various
programmes in LCCS
throughout the years, our
volunteers have been key in
helping LCCS extend our
reach to be able to provide
high contact, high impact
and high engagement in our
programmes to the youths.
An End to a Night, But a New Beginning At the end of an amazing
night, many knew in their
which showcased heart-
warming testimonials from
these various students, as
well as principals, school
counsellors and teachers
involved.
Our other guests also
included a special group of
students who chose to give
back to LCCS through their
performances during our
dinner. Students from East
View Primary School and
Temasek Secondary School
performed various circus
arts throughout the night.
Their performances were
watched in awe by the
guests, with thunderous
hearts that although this was
the end of celebrating 8 good
years of work in LCCS, this
was also a brand new
beginning for many more
things to come in the future.
With heartfelt thanks to all
who had contributed and
sponsored to make this event a
reality, as well as all those
who were present on this very
special occasion (we
absolutely enjoyed ourselves),
LCCS looks forward to many
more bright years ahead, to
continue our mission of
Changing Stories, Transform-
ing Lives.

Make a quick guess as to
how many schools and
students did Student Work
Services serve in 2010?
Yes, it is a whooping total
of more than 600 students
from 11 primary and
secondary schools! It has
been a really joyful 2010
for LCCS SWS. The staff
has had really fruitful and
valuable times reaching
out to these students via
various programmes like
Social Emotional Learning
(SEL), Enhanced STEP-
UP, Time-Out Programme,
and Life Skills
programmes in schools
such as (in alphabetical
order) – Boon Lay
Secondary, CHIJ St.
Theresa’s Convent, East
View Primary, Greendale
Secondary, Hillgrove
Secondary, Jurong Sec-
ondary, Maris Stella High,
Ngee Ann Primary,
Temasek Secondary, Yu
Neng Primary and Yusof
Ishak Secondary School.
In fact, everyday has been
an exciting opportunity for
all the staff, as the various
activities have been
catered largely to fit the
specific needs of the
students we work with. We
have engaged youths
through experiential
activities such as rock
climbing, combat
skirmish, martial arts,
circus arts, games,
camps, etc – and have
immensely enjoyed
linking and learning with
the youths through these
platforms.
This year, with the
launch of the drop-in
centre at Upper Bukit
Timah, our programmes
have also extended to
include centre-based
activities. The youth
workers at the centre
Students Work Services in 2010
have connected with our
youths through lovely
afternoon games of pool,
table soccer, table hock-
ey, Nintendo Wii and
jamming sessions in the
music studio. In fact, as
the year goes on, we see
more and more groups of
students drop by the
centre, and hence the
increasing demand for
space and facilities. See
Page 5 to find out more
about how you can help
contribute to these
youths!

“I’m so thankful to
the trainers as they
provide interesting
games for us. When
we do not know
things, they will be
there for us. Thank
you trainers!
“I like all the
trainers and their
efforts to think of
the games. I hope
there will be this
programme every
year because it can
allow me to turn
from sad to happy.
I love this
programme!
“I would like to say
thank you to all the
trainers for putting
in a lot of work for
us to learn and
have fun!”
“They are
awesome. They
have helped my
class change for
the better.”

It is heartening to see the harvest
of the works by our wonderful
and dedicated volunteers.
So, What’s Next? 2011, of course, carries many
challenges and hopes ahead. In
the next year, LCCS SWS looks
to reach out to more students in
more schools, and expand our
drop-in centre to include more
fruitful and exciting activities for
the youths. In fact, we are
currently in the midst of
preparing for the set up of a third
centre somewhere in the
Northern part of Singapore by
early next year.
So we have talked about our
work in the schools as well as
the drop-in centre.
Of course, not forgetting the
PODZ Mentoring programme
where we work with youths from
the Singapore Boys’ and Girls’
Home. This is the third year that
LCCS is partnering with
Ministry of Community Sports
and Youth (MCYS) in engaging
these youths, and helping them
reintegrate back into society. In
the recent barbecue, we had
more than 20 youths who
attended with their mentors to
have a time of great fun and
bonding.
And together with the expansion
of the staff force, LCCS SWS is
hopeful to be able to change
more and more stories, and
transform more and more lives
in the years ahead.
We are extremely thrilled about
the opportunities ahead. Here,
we would like to really express
our heartfelt appreciation to
those who have helped,
volunteered, or contributed in
one way or another in the work –
you’ve made a difference, no
matter how big or small!

Events & Happenings RP Training of Trainers
The agency was greatly honoured to
have Terry O'Connell from Australia
pay us a visit from 10-13 August 2010
to conduct the Training of
Trainers (TOT) for Restorative
Practice (RP) Conferences.
If you remember, the Restorative
Practice Workshop for Schools was
held in January this year and was
conducted by Bruce Schenk.
This TOT workshop would equip staff
with the skills and knowledge to
conduct similar RP Workshops for
Schools in the future.
It was such a fun and fruitful experi-
ence learning from Terry - the
Director of Real Justice Australia, also
best known as the “cop from Wagga
Wagga” who developed the Real
Justice conference script. It was
deeply inspiring to see in him what it
meant to be adopting RP as an integral
way of living and a toolbox - rather
than simply just a tool or method.
Being trained as Trainers to conduct
future RP workshops is definitely a
big step in the establishment of the
Centre for Restorative Practices, read
more in Page 6 for more information!
Friends from Germany
We were thrilled to have a group of
pastors, volunteers and family from the
Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bavar-
ia come visit us on 9 July 2010. Boon
Lay Secondary School gracefully led
the group in an impressive tour of
the school, as well as sharing with
them the key points of the Singapore
education system. It was indeed a fan-
tastic experience having friends from
overseas come over, and all of us really
enjoyed learning from one another!

LCCS is proud to announce the
beginning of yet another chapter –
the establishment of two new service
arms – the Family Work Services
(FWS) and Centre for Restorative
Practices (CRP). To be established in
Year 2011, both arms seek to further
the agency’s work in reaching out to
the community.
Family Work Services (FWS) In the years ahead, FWS looks to
advocate for strong, resilient and
healthy families. It will focus on
providing workshops and counselling
services (premarital counselling,
marital counselling, family
counselling, etc) to families. It also
encompasses adoption services, to be
launched at the end of 2010.
Indeed, we all know that behind eve-
ry youth is a family, and families are
the basic building blocks of
society. And as LCCS continues to
establish its work with youths under
Students Work Services (SWS),
there no doubt is the impending need
to reach and support families and
parents to transform their lives.
In view of that, FWS seeks to be
actively engaged in the process of
changing stories by empowering
children, youths, adults, couples,
parents and grandparents to play life
transforming roles in their family
relationships. Spearheading FWS is
Christina Ang, who has had several
years of experience working closely
with families and couples.
Centre for Restorative Practices (CRP) Another major advancement is the
establishment of the Centre for
Restorative Practices (CRP). As the
name suggests, this new arm would
head work in Restorative Practices
(RP), an area in which the agency
greatly advocates for. It aims to
reach out to institutions, schools and
community to educate them about
Restorative Practices through
trainings, sharing, and giving support
in conducting Restorative
Conferences. The goal is to make
Restorative Practices be a part of
their daily approach. Ms Goh Chor
Siang has been appointed the centre
director for CRP.
No doubt, LCCS is extremely excited
about these new developments. Feel
free to contact us should you be keen
to join us as a staff or volunteer! And
with your prayers as well, may we
truly be able to make huge
differences in changing stories,
transforming lives.
