AIESEC BOLOGNA BOOKLET

This is a story, and as all the stories we know, it begins with…

Once upon a time…

There was a girl, called Francesca, who joined

AIESEC 2 years ago as an EP of EduACTION in

AIESEC Uruguay. At that time AIESEC

BOLOGNA was not existing, but after taking

her internship, back in her city, Francesca

decided to try to create it.

It was October 2012, the first recruitment for

AIESEC Bologna, which provided us 2 VPs of

this term, an Expansion in AIESEC Italy.

MC Italy supported us, and…

Fighting, facing troubles, Francesca realized her

dream. AIESEC was in Bologna. It was difficult,

but, after a lot of efforts, she gained also success.

On March 2013 there was another recruitment.

Francesca didn’t know it, but she and the news

member of EB 13-14, except one, were already in

the committee.

National congress arrived, and in one of them

Francesca (elected as LCP) met one girl from

another LC in Italy, Genova, that was going to

study in Bologna.

So the VP election arrived, and one TM ICX, one

TL ICX, one TL Marketing, one TL OGX and an

ex OGXer from Genova applied.

It was a hard day, with tears, but, at the end.

AIESEC Bologna had 5 VP.

Now it’s the time to present the team:

• Francesca Olivieri, the dreamer, and, even if she does not want we call it in this way,

LC Bologna mother;

• Alice Cotogno, VP OGX, fascinating and with a lot of knowledge;

• Eleonora Rossi, VP Marketing, creative and always willing;

• Davide Santi, VP iGIP, amazing but serious at the right moments;

• Carolina Vargas, VP TM, so patient and ready to listen all of us;

• Luca Zecchi, VP iGCDP, the one writing this booklet.

As our motto says “Building the future, enjoying the challenge”, we want to bring AIESEC in our city at the top.

This isn’t a story about number, it is a story about people. Our time is finally arrived.

We think that our past interns

experiences are important… so…

Story Telling

My experience with the AEISEC team in Bologna Italy, as like many others

have found was amazing. I was unfortunate that my stay there was

interrupted and I had to return home, but for the short time that I was

there, I absolutely loved every minute and it was all thanks to the great

organisation there that provided such warm hospitality and were so

amusing. Before I ever arrived in Bologna they were already taking care of

me. They had a wonderful hosting family sorted for me, they were available

to collect me from the train station and they chauffered me everywhere that

I needed to go. I really felt like royalty! Not only that but they are so

enthusiastic about the whole project and everything that they did was with

the intention of making my experience as best as it possibly could be. I

really got a great feel for Italy and its culture thanks to the AEISEC team's

passion to share it with me and I really enjoyed myself. I couldn't be more

grateful to them, they were amazing! Even when I came into my own

difficulties, it was as if they were my family supporting me. I would

definitely reccommend anyone to go to Bologna to do an internship of any

kind because you will really be looked after. They are genuine, welcoming

and caring people. I can't say thank you enough.... Grazie!!!.

“For me, when deciding where would be the best place for me to do my internship with AIESEC, Italy

was an obvious choice. I had spent my Erasmus year in Bologna, I feel madly in love with this city, it

felt like a home from home, I had friends here, I knew the city so for me those were important

aspects.

My internship was working at an English summer camp. It’s main objective was to teach children

between 6-12 English through singing, drama, arts and crafts and outdoor activities.

Upon my arrival the AIESEC team brought me to meet my new employer. They showed us around the

city, explained to us what they wanted to achieve from us and what we expected from them. After that

we were sent to work promoting the camp.

Working at the camp was most definitely a new and enriching experience for me. After 4 years at

university, suddenly working from 8:00-17:00 Monday to Friday was a bit of a shock to my system! I

was exhausted, but I felt like I was really helping these kids learn English. Which made it

completely worthwhile. Of course, there were moments when the kids didn’t want to speak English,

they didn’t want to sing or dance, they were tired and just wanted to play with a ball in the park.

These moments were a little difficult to keep them focused and entertained as it was a long day for

everyone, but I found that a little compromise, a smile and a bit of enthusiasm can get you a long way!

Working there really did open up my eyes and it was definitely a great and important experience for

me.

After 4 weeks of camp, I then had to spend the remaining 3 weeks of my internship working in the

camps office. Again, I was not aware I would be doing office work. It was an experience to see how

the administrative side of the camp worked, however working from 10:00-18:00 everyday did seem a

bit pointless as we were mostly in the way, very small office for 4 people, and it often seem like was

giving things to do just for the sake of me doing something.

Upon my arrival to Italy, I understood from my interview that I would be living in an apartment with

other interns, his however was not meant to be. At first I was to share a room with an intern in our

employers apartment, I was not very comfortable with this arrangement so I went to stay at my friends

house until alternative accommodation could be arranged. This happened the following week. My

employer brought me to a host family after work and told me I would live with them. The downside to

this arrangement was that the mother expected me to do her sons homework with him and the

daughters for 2 or 3 hours when I came home from working at camp. She wanted me to be home

straight after work everyday which I was not happy with as I wanted to see my friends. As a result I

didn’t see any of the AIESEC people for a few weeks as I had to go straight from work to my host

family. They went on holidays after 4 weeks if me being there, I decided to stay with a friend for the

remainder of my stay in Bologna as I did not want to live with another host family.

I do have to give credit to the AIESEC team. Things did not go as smoothly as they had hoped but this

was there first ever group of interns in Bologna. They were always very attentive and considerate.

They were always there ready and willing to help us with any problem or concern we had. I do believe

that communication is an area that needed more attention. For me, as I was always with me boss, I

always spoke to her if I had a problem, mainly because she told me to and didn’t like me complaining

to Aiesec. I do know now that I should have communicated more with them.

I am aware that I have been mostly negative here but I did thoroughly enjoy my experience here and

I am very happy that I chose this internship. I believe that everyone involved, myself and all the

AIESEC team, will have learnt many valuable lessons from and this we will all learn and continue to

grow and improve.

I am proud and happy to have been a part of this AIESEC team and I wish them all the success in

the future.
