1. Power light a. When the light shows, the computer is on. b. When the light is blinking, the computer is in the Sleep state. c. When the light is off, the computer is off or in a Hibernations states.

2-finger click 2-finger click allow you to make menu selections for an object on the screen. This is the same action as using right-click with the mouse to obtain menu such as Save As, and Print.

a. Place 2 fingers on the TouchPad Zone to open the options menu for the selected object.

Edge Swipes Edge swipes allow you to perform tasks such as changing settings and finding and using apps. Right-edge swipe Display and select a charm. Charms allow you to Search, Share, Start Apps, Access Devices, or Change Settings.

1. With your finger, swipe from the right-side of the TouchPad. 2. Scroll up or down to switch between the charms, and then select the charm you want to open.

Left-edge swipe The left-edge swipe accesses your recently opened apps so that you can switch between them quickly.

Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 contains 3 main screens: 1. Desktop 2. Start screen - contains apps in the form of tiles. 3. App screen - shows all of your apps or programs in list form.

*You can switch quickly between the Start screen, Desktop, and the Apps screen.

Desktop On the desktop, you can use all kinds of apps and programs. You can also pin your favorite apps and programs to the taskbar, so you can get to them quickly. To get to the desktop, click the desktop tile on the Start screen Or

Search Search your PC, the web, OneDrive, Apps, and the Windows Store. You can search Everywhere, Settings, Files, Web images, and Web videos. To search your PC, the web, and OneDrive

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the Touchpad

2. Click Search To see all of the results for your search term, including all Web results:

1. Click the Search button 2. On the search results page, click a search result to open it.

To go back to the search results page: If you open a search result and find it’s not what you’re looking for, you can go back to the search results pages without having to search all over again.

The Start Charm You can use the Start charm to get to the Start screen at any time. Or if you are already on Start, use it to go back to the last app you were using. The Start Screen is the main page of your PC. The Start Screen is where you open apps and desktop programs, and get to your favorite websites and files.

The start screen is comprised of tiles. The tiles show updates and app notifications without even opening the app. The tiles are personalized based on the login of each person.

The Settings Charm Use the Setting charm to make quick adjustments to a few common settings like brightness, volume, or network connection. To adjust network connection:

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the Touchpad 2. Click on Settings

Or

1. Press the Windows logo key + C 2. Click on Settings

3. Click on the network connection icon 4. Select your Wi-Fi 5. Click Connect 6. If needed, the network security key code needs to be entered in order to connect.

To adjust speaker volume:

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the Touchpad 2. Click on Settings

Or

1. Press the Windows logo key + C 2. Click on Settings

3. Click on the speaker icon 4. Adjust the volume by using the arrow keys on the keyboard or left-click with the mouse and

drag your finger across the touchpad.

To adjust display screen brightness

4. Adjust the brightness by using the arrow keys on the keyboard or left-click with the mouse and drag your finger across the touchpad

Shutting down (turning off) the computer 1. Save your work before shutting down your computer. 2. On the Touchpad, swipe from the right-side with your finger. 3. Click Settings 4. Click Power 5. Select Shut down

*It takes 12.45 seconds to restart the computer to get to the login screen.

1. Right-click the Start button in the lower-left corner of the screen. 2. Select Shut down or sign out. Or

1. Press the Windows logo key + C 2. Click Settings 3. Click Power 4. Select Shut down

If the computer is unresponsive and you are unable to use the preceding shutdown procedures, try the following emergency procedures in the following sequence:

1. Press ctrl + alt + delete. 2. Click the Power icon. 3. Select Shut Down. 4. Press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds. 5. Disconnect the computer from external power.
