Principal’s ReportOur students that were inducted into leadership positions on Thursday are to be commended for demonstrating role model qualities and having the courage to take on such prominent roles within our school. We welcomed special guest and past school captain Mr Mark Crutcher back to our school. Mr Crurcher had the honour of inducting our new school captains. Well done team and I look forward to working with you over the next 12 months.

On Wednesday 11 September, The Henry Lawson High School Student’s had the opportunity to participate in the Robogals workshop.Robogals is a student-run organisation that aims to engage female students in engineering from a young age, with the long-term goal of increasing female enrolment in engineering, science and technology courses at universities.Robogals primary activity is having university student volunteers (both female and male) visit both primary and secondary schools to run LEGO robotics workshops and mentor teams in LEGO robotics competitions.

The university students are provided with the necessary training to teach LEGO robotics, and an important goal of the organisation is not only to have a positive impact on the girls, but also to provide a rewarding experience for the dedicated students who volunteer their time and skills to the organisation. The Henry Lawson High School celebrated R U OK Day? on Friday 13 September with an assembly and guest speakers.R U OK? Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that any day is the day to ask, “Are you ok?” and support those struggling with life . Taking part can be as simple as learning R U OK?’s four steps so you can have a conversation that could change a life.By following the four steps below you’ve got what it takes to have a conversation that could change a life.

1. Ask- when they’re in a quiet comfortable space that’s ideal for them.

2. Listen - let them talk without interruption and listen with an open mind.

3. Encourage action - suggest they talk to someone who can provide further support; like their GP, manager or teacher.

4. Check in - check in with them gain soon to see how they’re going.

Good luck to Anna Hunt who is off to School Sport Australia football championships as part of the NSW open girls football team in Brisbane. An amazing sporting achievement.

Enjoy the week.

Under lock and keyAfter a year of careful planning, reseaching, problem solving and building, the Year 12 Design and Technology projects are now complete and in lock up waiting for the markers to arrive.

Andrew Knight’s cabinet and shelving unit addresses the need for accessible multi-level shelving. The shelves can rotate alleviating the need for the elderly or those with back problems to have to bend down to access lower shelves. An alternative use for Andrew’s design would be in galleries or museums to rotate displays.

Bryce Warnke built a BBQ smoker. Promoting upcycling, Bryce sourced an old filing cabinet and used recycled steel and timber in his project. A multi-purpose design, the addition of a grill to the side adds extra cooking space enabling the user to cater for large gatherings.

Adam Hewen designed and built a dining table that flips to reveal a games table underneath. Using a parquetry techniques, the different grain the the timber really stands out for a beautiful finish.
