The Law360 400 features the largest U.S.-based law firms and vereins with a U.S. component, as measured by domestic attorney headcount. Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP shed some attorneys since adding hundreds of U.S.-based attorneys from Bingham McCutchen LLP in 2014, causing it to fall from first to third place on the list as Greenberg Traurig LLP snagged the No. 2 spot. Other firms made fast moves up the ranks in 2015 by joining forces with rivals. Dentons' merger with McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP shot it up to the top 20, and Texas-based Locke Lord LLP moved up to No. 34 after scooping up Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP. Law360, New York (March 24, 2016, 11:25 AM ET) -- Jones Day has edged its way back to the top of the Law360 400, reclaiming its title as the largest U.S. law firm after falling to second place last year, according to our annual ranking of the largest firms in the country. The Law360 400 features the largest U.S.-based law firms and vereins with a U.S. component, as measured by domestic attorney headcount. Methodology: Law360 surveyed U.S. law firms, and vereins with a U.S. component, on domestic attorney and partner headcount information as of Dec. 31, 2015. Firms based outside the U.S. were not surveyed, and only attorneys based in the 50 states and the District of Columbia were included in the responses.
Firms that have shareholders, members or principals in lieu of partners have those numbers listed in the "partner" field. The data used to compile last year's ranking has been revised if a miscalculation in a law firm's submitted headcount data was identified after last year's ranking was published.
