A message from our Principal… What an awesome week! It was great to see so many families come in for our Education Week Open Day. Thank you for sharing the day with the students and staff – it was a massive success. The theme, I Learn, We Learn, definitely reflects our commitment to high expectations and our focus on continuous improvement so that every child and every teacher improves every year. At assembly this week, I will be presenting a truly significant award. Although, the recipient wants no accolades or the public spotlight, I think a nod and a ‘well done’ is definitely in order. The award is for 30 years of service to the NSW Department of Education. The award will be given to Mrs Lyn Haynes

after the assembly as per her wishes. There have been so many students, staff and families that have received so much from Mrs Haynes. As a

school, Lavington Public is truly fortunate to have such a passionate and caring staff member. From all of us Lyn, congratulations! Also at assembly this week there will be Gold Awards presented, but also, the new SRC representatives will receive their badges. Student Leadership is definitely a focus of Lavington Public School.

Whether it be through the SRC, an official leadership role, Peer Support or being involved in our Year 5 and 6 classes – the

development of our future leaders is something we take pride in.

See you soon! Brett.

SRC CLASS REPRESENTATIVES Congratulations to the following students who have been nominated as SRC Representatives for Semester 2.

Students will receive their badges at Assembly tomorrow. Parents and family are especially invited to attend. BOOK PARADE & BOOK FAIR

WEDNESDAY 6 SEPTEMBER To help celebrate our enjoyment of reading, Lavington Public School will be holding our annual Book Parade on Wednesday, 6 September commencing at 10:15am. The theme this year is ‘Escape to Everywhere’. Also on this day we will be having a Book Fair (8:00am – 12:30pm) where students, teachers, parents and friends can purchase new books, posters, pens and pencils at very reasonable prices. It will be a great opportunity to buy for Christmas.

Children and teachers are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character or favourite book and join in the fun of the parade with family and friends. All commission earned from the Book Fair goes back to the Library and is used to purchase more books and resources for the

students and teachers at Lavington PS. Don’t forget to write the date and times on your calendar and start planning costumes. Stay tuned for more information in the newsletter as the date gets closer.

PEER SUPPORT This week in Peer Support the children consolidate the protective factors for resilience by revising their own strengths and skills and by identifying five people they could go to for support. When talking to your children, encourage them to ask for help in challenging situations.

SCHOOL CHOIR PERFORMANCE The school choirs will be performing at the Albury Wodonga Eisteddfod on Friday morning 11 August. Should parents wish to purchase tickets for the event go to the following link. www.123tix.com.au/events/830/albury-wodonga-eisteddfod-primary-school-choirs Notes and bus money for this excursion were handed out yesterday and must be returned by next Tuesday, 8 August to the office. EDUCATION WEEK HAPPENINGS!

SCHOOL SPORT AUSTRALIA CARNIVAL Jesse Hart will certainly be counting down the days until he flies up to Darwin as part of the NSW AFL team next week. All the preparation is nearing completion. Reports from the recent camp at Barooga indicate the NSW boys are all ‘chomping at the bit’ and ready to go. It was whilst at this camp, Jesse was selected as a member of the leadership group for the carnival. This is fantastic recognition for Jess! I speak for the whole school community when I say ‘Good Luck Jesse, go get them!’

Once again our school is participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. If shopping in Woolies, we would very much appreciate if you could collect the stickers and return them to the special box located in the office foyer. This redemption program gives our school the chance to earn amazing school resources and equipment. Sticker sheets are also available from the office if children would prefer to stick them on. We thank you for your continued support of our school.

THANK YOU A big thank to the volunteers who assisted in the canteen yesterday. Your help was much appreciated! - Kathy
