A message from our Assistant Principal… Yesterday several children from Year 6 and KM attended a session at Ross Circuit Pre-school as part of our Transition program. What a lovely time we had! Mrs Glynn read a great book called “Don’t Open this Book!” by Andy Lee. If you are unfamiliar with this book, have a read, it’s hilarious! The children then read some of their readers to the preschool children. We may have some story tellers in our ranks. Great job kids!

Next week is another special event at our school. It’s Book Week parade time. I always look forward to this event at our school. The children (and their parents) always go to such a great effort in dressing up on this day. Keep your eye out for teachers dressed up too! Don’t forget to pop into the Book Fair in the Library as well. Thank you to all the parents from the P & C who helped with the Father’s Day Stall. What a great success it was. The children certainly appreciate the efforts you go to in organising these days. Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there! Enjoy the day!

- Jodie McClellan, Assistant Principal

BOOK PARADE Next Wednesday 6 September we are holding our annual Book Parade. The parade will take place at 10.15am in the Infants Quad area and parents and friends are invited to come along. Students are asked to dress up as their favourite book character or book for the day. Some costume ideas might include fairies, princesses, footballers,

children, animals etc. Another idea might be to wear a hat or mask that relates to their favourite book e.g. football helmet,

witches hat, pirate hat, princess tiara, animal mask or superhero. When deciding on a costume, please ensure your child will be warm/cool enough as well as comfortable for the day. Appropriate footwear is required for the day (no thongs, singlet shirts etc).

Students are asked to carry the book their character is from if possible. It is great to see a varied selection of

books. At the end of the parade, parents and guests are invited to the library to purchase from the great selection of books at the Book Fair. BOOK FAIR Students will be viewing the books in the Book Fair during their library lesson this week and Monday, Tuesday of next week. They will be writing a wish list of books, posters and pencils they would like to purchase. They will bring this list home to discuss with you. ALL Book Fair purchases will take place on Wednesday 6 September (8:00–12:30 pm) before and after the Book Parade. Items must be paid for on the day in either cash or cheque (made payable to LPS). Books that are popular and are sold out on the day may be reordered. (Posters and pencils cannot be re-ordered). Your support for the Book Parade and the Book Fair is appreciated. Earlier this year the Library was able to purchase over $2500 worth of books from the commission from the Book Fair on Grandparents day. Hope to see you next Wednesday and looking forward to viewing all the costumes.

- Helen Jervois (Teacher Librarian) FINANCE MATTERS With the new Finance system introduced in May, unfortunately office staff are now unable to process receipts on the spot or provide change. Monies received will be processed as quickly as possible and receipts will be sent home with your child (there may be a day or so delay). For this reason, it is important that when paying for an activity for your child, please ensure that the correct money is returned in a sealed envelope or bag with your child’s name, class and the activity clearly marked. Your assistance in this matter is appreciated. SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB At the beginning of this term (Issue 4) someone placed a Book Club order for a number of items, worth a considerable amount of money which did not have a name included. The order is in the office waiting to be claimed. ILLNESS & STUDENT ATTENDANCE Woodburn PS circulated this information as a guide for parents when considering their child’s participation and attendance at school due to illness. Given that we too have experienced high levels of illness across our community, please

TODD WOODBRIDGE CUP Thirty of our ‘Hot Shots’ Years 3 and 4 tennis players will be participating in the Todd Woodbridge Cup to be played at the St Patrick’s Tennis Courts next Friday. This should be a great fun day for children to perfect their skills and play against students from other schools in the Albury region. Consent Notes have gone home today and must be returned with money by Wednesday 6 September. Mrs Lynch will be accompanying our students for the day. RIVERINA ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Good luck to our group of students who are off to Alexandra Park to compete at the Riverina PSSA Carnival. Enjoy the experience kids! AFL CLINIC Our K-2 students will be participating in a four session AFL program each Friday until the end of this term conducted by AFL Development Officers. Students are asked to wear their school sports uniform for the clinics. If they wish, they may wear their favourite team shirt or guernsey over the top of their uniform. This will be a great opportunity to

support their team and develop their skills in a fun and non-competitive environment. BACKYARD LEAGUE Our Years 3-6 students are enjoying their NRL Backyard League program each Wednesday afternoon. Murray HS students are involved in the program which promote and develop leadership qualities. Next Wednesday will be the final session.

Our P & C are
