words by Brooke Fraser

How often have we sung the bridge of this worship song during praise and worship, let the words leave our mouth and just as effortlessly as our breath melts into the air so do our thoughts disappear and enter into a black void. Break my heart for what breaks Yours. This is not simply a request it is a bold prayer – a declaration!

Do we actually meditate upon that which breaks His heart? Or have our own hearts calloused towards the brokenness of this world. Oppression of the poor and weak, genocide,

greed of the nations, injustice which is tolerated in the government and swept under the carpet. Foreigners in the country due to famine and war or even the condition of His church. His heart is breaking over us! How long will we continue in this blind state of denial? God is calling us to rise up and take our place, as the chosen generation. Will we be boldly stand against injustice or will we step aside and take a look out the window like an oblivious tourist.

Even though we might have forgotten or made a choice out of ignorance to ignore the suffering at hand I assure you, our Father in

heaven has not. 1 Samuel 2:8 “He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.” What a beautiful piece of gold that comes from this scripture. That we may be able to encourage our brothers and sisters in Christ whom lack earthly riches yet will inherit the treasures of heaven one day. Deuteronomy 15:11 “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be open handed toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.”

God's heart cries out to a broken land. His precious life poured out onto a blood stained cross for the oppressed and the sinners alike. Nothing was done in vain – His actions have saved nations from an eternal life in HELL. Our Father waits upon us to understand his heart and His desire that we may be more like Him and less like ourselves.

My prayer is that the Lord will fill our hearts with compassion for the broken people around us so that we can reflect His character, and love the people that He loves. That we may be His arms and feet in this world. Leaving behind judgment for the greatest Judge of all, our heavenly Father. John 8:7 “Let the person among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

rdI met Jesus Christ as my Savior in 1989. I was a 3 year student nurse in the heart of Cape Town (Sea point). Life was challenging but I was fortunate enough to have had 6 born again nurses as friends. As the time passed I slowly began to let go of His hand. In 2006 after many trials and tribulations and having to become a single parent accompanied with all its challenges, I took His hand again once more. The same year I was baptized. Over the years God has shown me His unconditional love time and again.

It is because of His love that I am a nurse today. As a nursing sister, I know that I am blessed. Every day, I feel so privileged because I am able to be a testimony for Him and encourage my patients to make the right choice – Jesus Christ.

In my place of work I have met so many people who have changed my perspective on life. I have been working for 8 years in Simondium focusing on the farm areas, praying with those who need prayer and giving motivational talks. But most of all I love to work with the crèches. Over the years I received children's clothing from many individuals and have been able to distribute it to various underprivileged crèches. Although I currently work in Paarl I am still involved with the children and make myself available whenever they may need my assistance.

I love to spread the love of God!!!

Whenever I hear the words of this song, “Like a rose trampled on the ground, He took the fall and thought of you and me, above all… ” I smell the trampled rose mixed with His love. What a FRAGRANCE! – I can only imagine.

My wish to all – spread the love of God, everyday, in every way, to everyone.

The servant - Genesis 24:1-9

Genesis 24 is a vivid account of how Abraham obtained a bride for his son Isaac. He sent his servant back to the land of Mesopotamia to find a young woman of his own family line, which—according to the culture of that time—was an essential requirement. This story is a parable acted out in history.

Abraham is a type of God the Father. Isaac is a type of Jesus Christ the Son. The chosen bride (whose name was Rebekah) is a type of the church. Then there is one other main character who remains nameless: the servant. The servant is a type of the Holy Spirit. Genesis 24 contains the Holy Spirit's self-portrait. It is characteristic that he does not even name Himself. The Holy Spirit never draws attention to Himself, but always works to bring glory to the Father and the Son.

Joh 16:13 “But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won't draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said.” (MSG)

The journey - Genesis 24:10-21

The servant sets off, taking with him ten camels loaded with various gifts, having in mind that he is going to choose a bride. The bride should be simple, industrious, humble, cheerful, serviceable, and hospitable. In the Middle East, whenever you make a significant choice and build a relationship, you always give a gift. If your gift is received, you as a person are received. If your gift is rejected, then you are rejected. This is an absolutely critical part in establishing any relationship.

Camels carry an immense amount of baggage—and the servant is making the trip with no less than ten camels! He arrives at the place where they water the flocks and he prays: “I'm going to ask one of these young women to draw water for me. Let the one who is the chosen young woman say, 'I'll draw water for you and for your camels as well.'” (Bear in mind that a camel can drink 150 litres of water. So, this chosen young woman would be volunteering to draw up to 1 500 litres of water.)

So here comes Rebekah, and the servant says, “Give me something to drink.” Rebekah replies, “Certainly! And I'll draw for your camels as well.” Then the servant says to himself, “This is the girl!” Let me add that Rebekah is a pattern of faith and works. It takes a lot of work to draw water for ten camels.

Rebekah is a great example of someone with a servant heart. She was willing to help a total stranger. The Bride of Christ has a humble, servant heart with a gentle spirit. She is willing to go the extra mile!

Week 4

Gifts of the Holy Spirit - Genesis 24:22

Gen 24:22 “When the camels had finished drinking, the man brought out gifts, a gold nose ring weighing a little over a quarter of an ounce and two arm bracelets weighing about four ounces, and gave them to her.” (MSG) Then the servant pulls out beautiful jewels and gives it to Rebekah. The moment she accepts the jewels, it marks her as the appointed bride. What would have happened if Rebekah had refused the jewels? She would never have become the bride! What can we say of a church that refuses the gifts of the Holy Spirit? It lacks the distinctive marks of the bride!

1 Co 12:7-11 “But to each one is given the showing forth of the Spirit to our profit. For through the Spirit is given to one a word of wisdom; and to another a word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; and to another faith by the same Spirit; and to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; and to another workings of powers, to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; and to another kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues. But the one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing separately to each one as He desires.” (NKJV)

If we, the church accept the gifts, we will flow with the Spirit. We will see signs, wonders and miracles and we will experience God's blessing in our lives. People will experience God's love, mercy and goodness when they come near the church/bride of Christ.

Who is your guide?

Rebekah never had a map. She had never been where the guide was taking her. She had never seen either the man she was to marry or his father. But she had a guide who knew the way! He also knew both the father and the son. He could supply her with all the information she needed.

That is how it is with you and me. We cannot make it with a map, but we must have a Guide. In this life we will probably never see the Father or the Son or the place that is our destination. But if we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us, He will show us the way. He will also be our source of information concerning the Father and the Son.

Gal 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (NKJV)

The Holy Spirit will help us to live a pure life filled with good fruit. This will help us to react and act in the correct way, speak in the correct way and live our lives as a testimony of Jesus' love and authority.

Who is your personal Guide? How many times will we go back to trusting our own wisdom and our own cleverness and in this way ignore the Holy Spirit? Take some time today to thank God for His Holy Spirit!

Di t was d ie slang se skuld!” “

Ek is jammer.” ‘n Mens moet mos jou man staan en opstaan vir jouself!

Die real i te i t is : a lmal maak foute.

‘n Nuwe Testament vol gate.

En daar lê Efesiërs 5:4 “Growwe, ligsinnige of vuil praatjies pas nie by julle nie; nee, dank aan God pas by julle.”

(2 Tim 3:16-17)

En daar maak ek ‘n besluit. Ek vou my knipmes toe, gee dit vir die Heilige Gees en sê: “Here, kerf u woord op my hart uit.” Ek vat die sellotape en plak ‘n versie terug in my Bybel: “Sorg daarenteen dat julle steeds toeneem in die genade en kennis van ons Here en Verlosser, Jesus Christus”. (2 Pet 3:18)

Ek was verkeerd. Ek is jammer. Deur René Badenhorst

CHURCH VOLUNTEER WORKDo you have a heart to serve? Do you want to help in the upkeep and maintenance of the church building and its

k het onlangs by die gym ‘n man teëgekom wat uitstaan bo die E

ander mense.

Here is an explanation of the school homework policy for the average student. Students should not spend more than ninety minutes per night. This time should be budgeted in the following manner if the student desires to achieve moderate to good grades in his/her classes.

15 minutes looking for assignment.

11 minutes calling a friend for the assignment.

23 minutes explaining why the teacher is mean and just does not like children.

8 minutes in the bathroom.

10 minutes getting a snack.

7 minutes checking the TV Guide.

6 minutes telling parents that the teacher never explained the assignment.

10 minutes sitting at the kitchen table waiting for Mom or Dad to do the assignment.

Our school cruise was a great success but a lot of kids had to be turned away. Why? The raft only held fifteen people.

A party of schoolchildren from the city went on a trip to the country. One of them found a pile of empty milk bottles and shouted, “Look, miss, I've found a cow's nest!’

Where's the worst trip you're likely to go on?To the headmaster's office.

TEACHER: And what did you learn during the summer?PUPIL: I learned that three months is not enough time to straighten up my room.

I wonder when mosquitoes go on vacation, do they complain about all the people?

On our vacation this summer, I saw fireflies for the first time. I didn't know what they were. I thought the mosquitoes were coming after us with flashlights.

I'm going to spend my vacation reviewing everything I learned at school.Really? What are you going to do the second day?
