Resort InformationSet in the heart of the Jungfrau ski region, Lauterbrunnen is a charming village nestling between rock faces and mountain peaks in one of the most impressive valleys in the Alps. Famous for its stunning scenery, this resort is a perfect for summer use and convenient for skiing in winter.

The name ‘Lauter Brunnen’ means many fountains, and the resort is as spectacular as the name suggests. There are 72 waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the most famous being the Staubbach Falls. Plunging almost 300 metres from an overhanging rock face, the Falls are one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Europe.

Lauterbrunnen is ideally situated for skiing, with the renowned ski resorts of Wengen and Murren accessible by cable car and cog railway, This is an excellent choice if you are looking for a second home to use in both winter and summer.

Getting thereJust over 2 hours from Geneva and Zurich airports Lauterbrunnen is easily accessible by motorway almost all the way. Lauterbrunnen has its own station, and the Swiss trains and cog railways are fantastic for both getting to the resort and for skiing and touring the area in both summer and winter. The lake and resort of Interlaken is just 20 minutes away.

WinterThe three regions of Grindelwald-First, Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen and Mürren-Schilthorn open up over 200km of slopes served by 44 lifts and cable cars, with some long descents of various degrees of difficulty. Over 40% of the slopes are equipped with snow-making machines.

At an altitude of 1650m - 3000m, Mürren-Schilthorn is the highest winter sport resort in the Bernese Oberland and guarantees optimal ski conditions well into spring.

Kleine Scheidegg – Männlichen lies in the heart of the Jungfrau Region, at the foot of the world-famous Eiger North Face. The Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen ski area has 19 lifts serving 110 pistes, and is the largest of the ski areas in the Jungfrau area.

Grindelwald-First is an excellent ski area for freestyle fans, with Bärgelegg-Snowpark, Grindel-Superpipe, the Oberjoch, and a Boardercross. This ski area boasts excellent restaurants and some challenging ski runs.

WellnessThe Wellness Oasis in the Grindelwald Sports Centre and the Alpine Sports Centre in Mürren are available for everyone wanting to relax and enjoy the stunning Alpine scenery. Both have indoor pools, saunas and a wellness oasis. They also offer a variety of different massages and beauty treatments.

Jungfrau RegionA rack railway links Lauterbrunnen with the sunny terrace of Wengen, and at Kleine Scheidegg you can change trains to visit the Jungfraujoch, the highest station in Europe.

On the opposite side of the valley is the resort of Mürren, accessible from Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg. The cableway from Stechelberg continues to the peak of the Schilthorn at 2971m, which is famous for being the setting of 007 classic, ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’.

SummerLauterbrunnen is a stunning place to visit during summer, with its spectacular waterfalls and extensive hiking routes that run between this resort and nearby Wengen, Murren and Grindelwald.

Interlaken and its twin lakes are only 20 minutes away, where you can enjoy boat rides and a pretty Swiss town. There is an excellent cog railway system linking the area, making this the perfect place to explore the Jungfrau region.

With the small, charming Swiss village of Isenfluh is an interesting place to visit while in the area, with a narrow road leading up to it, and the imposing peaks of the Eiger, the Monch and the Jungfrau looming above the village.

The Trummelbach Falls are close to Lauterbrunnen, with their 10 waterfalls providing stunning scenery for hikes and mountain biking. The Staubach Falls at the edge of the town have inspired poetry, and fall 30 feet from a rocky overhang.
