bine a passion in life - Fashion with my professional passion - Marketing?

Life in Florence is just all about fashion, culture and history. Is

amazing how every corner holds so much inspiration. The Fash-

ion Marketing and Communication course I am taking here is

also very interesting and is really nice to see Fashion from a seri-

ous point of view, because most people just take it for granted, and

most of them don’t realize all that goes behind the luxury market.

The future? This portfolio is part of my resume, and

I can say I feel really prepared and have the knowl-

edge to work with my favourite area - the Public Relations.

I already worked with Human Resources and Finance -

due to my graduation degree, but Marketing for me is

just fascinating and I cannot wait to start working with it.

Kind Regards,

Laura Moura

Wearable Technology: a high or a low?By Laura Moura

eople – specially celebrit ies – are always having new

challenges to dress up – specially for big events such as the red carpets. The q u e s t i o n i s : h o w t o innovate and be somehow different from the others? Lately some of them have chosen technology as an answer to that question, and sometimes it actually worked…some others it did not.

We already saw Lady Gaga, Rihanna and lately we saw also Kate Perry at the Met Gala with a quite

successful approach to wearable technology. The singer was wearing a dress that looked quite good (when turned on) and guaranteed her a pretty g o o d p u b l i c i t y . Unfortunately we cannot say the same for Imogen Heap, this singer couldn’t be more ridiculous on the twitter dress she chose for the Grammy’s this year.

The singer was actually wearing a regular dress, accessorized (or we could say, destroyed) by a giant necklace with a display that would show up her fans

and friends tweets in real time. She was also carrying a Fe n d i t r a n s p a r e n t handbag, containing her iPhone that would feature p i c ture s peop le were sending her.

If that is a new possibility of human and socia l medias interactions we still don’t know. All I know is that thee singer could have gone for something more fashionable like Perry did.

The Microsoft Reasearch’s paper dress, for example, enables the person using it to enter their thoughts and

messages on the fabric. The dress that allows you to show twitters or messages of your thoughts or how you are feeling at the moment.

Another interesting and more fashionable wearable technology that came to my attention is made by designer Jennifer Darmour. With her latest Ping project, clothes that are produced with a special garment that allows you to be connected to Facebook wireless and from anywhere you are.

With natural gestures you can leave messages and connect to your friends automatic. Simple moves and other actions like close buttons, tie a bow or open a zip can send messages and change your status, each movement is previously settled by the user to be interpreted and react at an action on the network. It also comes the other way around, the technology permits that whenever you receive a message or comment the garment will let you know by “tapping” you on the shoulder!

After all clothing and fashion are another way of expressing ourselves, it feels like a natural progress to integrate them with our written thoughts and messages in out networks.

We can also see the wearable technology from another and more “green” point of view: Smart fabrics and wearable technology offer us an opportunity for a more sustainable future.

Well, wether if it is a natural path towards the future or a way of creating new interactions with social media or even to save our nature, I am dying to see fashion designers using technology and crazy ideas on their clothes!
