When you go through a major trauma in life – a death inthe family, a divorce, illness, the loss of a job – it breaks downyour confidence, your dreams and your plans. Everythingdisintegrates. You feel rattled to the core.

Some people stumble and fall, not quite sure how to recover, and not caring when.

Others find the strength to keep going and to flourish. Theyhave a sense of possibility and move forward with incredibleinspiration and strength. They seem to be magnetic, and peopleare drawn to them. They’re described as having courage andcharacter people want to emulate. What’s their secret?

When I went through the stages of total loss, grief andconfusion, when I felt I was losing my footing, when it felt likelife wasn’t worth living, a part of me always knew there wasmore to me than all of this. Every day, as I experienced theunsettling feeling of loss, I knew in my heart that the traumawould not be happening if there were not a greater plan. I knewthat within me, there was a wisdom that would show me howto hold myself together.

I had everything I needed inside me to handle my pain, apersonal guide that would show me the way to my ultimatehappiness, well-being and success. This guide was my soul, andit knew all the details of my personal plan, the one that’s beenwith me since birth, a unique place inside me where the manualto “me” is always ready to be read.

If we can truly know about this guide and our personal plan –beyond just trusting that it’s there – then we can do more thanmove forward. We can create beyond our wildest dreams.

In the rhythm of our human cycles, life’s not a straight line. You bump into things, you lose your way, and you don’taccomplish what you set out to do. There are all kinds of toolsto help you find your purpose and stay on the path, but theydon’t always work in the face of life’s biggest obstacles.

That’s because most of them rely on the power of the mind tokeep you focused. Unfortunately, when you lose your way, youforget to hold that focus. We can’t depend on the mind alone. The mind doesn’t hold our purpose and make sure we stick to it.

Your soul does. It holds your purpose for you day after day, even when you’re too busy or too upset to notice. That’s theradar within you. It looks at your obstacles, guides you aroundthem, and keeps you on track. It helps you use your successtools more effectively, working behind the scenes to keeppushing you forward. From time to time, your soul drops ontoyour path miracles to inspire you, give you joy, and reward youfor your hard work.

Why I wrote this book

While I was writing the first book in my Stretch Your Wingsand Fly Collection, Meet Your Soul: Stretch Your Wings and Fly:Connecting with Your Quantum Power, clients, friends andacquaintances kept telling me they wanted more. Once theylearned how to connect with their soul on a daily basis, they felt awhole new world awaited them, and they weren’t sure how to getaround in it. Is there a way, they asked, of working with my soulto figure out what I’m supposed to be doing with my life? Can mysoul help me do that?

I thought back to the 1980s, when I was working at a yoga

and wellness ashram in the Northeast. This was a place wherepeople would come to get spiritually connected. The ashramconcentrated on a holistic approach to healing and growing.

For me, that meant delving into some things most peoplestill consider “out there”: karma and past-life work. I learnedthat until you complete your past, you can’t really understandhow to move forward.

Life is much greater than we perceive it to be. Just becauseyour husband is your husband, that doesn’t mean you relate tohim as that. Sometimes you relate to your mate as if he wereyour child, your parent, or your grandparent. When I was ayoung child, my soul started to teach me the expanded roles weplay as human beings from our past and how to relate to that inthe present. It can be very confusing and disorienting.

I remember sitting in the ashram during a puja ceremony, aritual that involves lighting the daily ceremonial fire and burningincense. One woman near me always broke out in a sweat andbecame nauseated and dizzy as soon as she smelled the incense. She initially thought she was having an allergic reaction. Afterdoing some past-life work, we uncovered that she’d once beenseverely burned in a warehouse that contained incense, and shecouldn’t get near it. Just the smell of incense from India set hertrembling. She didn’t shrink from Native American sage or Japaneseincense, so we used those when she was around, and she was fine.

I’ve since learned techniques for releasing us from karmawithout having to relive it. By working with your soul and thesouls of others, you can see the signs before you get involved inthe scenario, and release the past without re-experiencing itspain. That’s why this particular book is important.

When I was a child, I had an imaginary friend I called Freddie.I’ve since learned he’s the personification of my soul, and he’s withme even today. One day I asked Freddie about why mymom kept

Page 16: Launch your inner radar sample

xiv L a u n c h Y o u r I n n e r R a d a r

sitting in the corner and saying her mantra over and over again. She was into Eastern spirituality, and she was talking about “beingpresent.” I asked Freddie what that meant, being present.

I had experiences about being present that were so awful. Iwitnessed people in a level of pain I had never experienced before.I saw people begging on the street. I was so extremelyoversensitive as a child – having five planets in cancer made meextraordinarily sensitive to emotions and feelings – I was able tosee old people wetting their pants because they couldn’t hold it inpublic, and having difficulty walking. I was just devastated.

I said to Freddie, “If this is being present, I don’t wantanything to do with it.” I was not an advocate for beingpresent. I equated it with pain and wondered what humanbeing would want to expand that experience beyond what wego through in everyday life.

The next experience Freddie gave me was being present inmyself, as opposed to in humanity. I felt such bliss and peace, and wave after wave of joy and happiness. All of a sudden, Ibecame aware of the energy moving in my body. My soul saidvery clearly, “This is where you be present. In the presence ofwho you are, you can reflect it into the world, and imagine howbeautiful a world it would be.”

We all embody this beauty, but we never get to experience ituntil we bring ourselves into the present with mind, body andspirit – not body, mind and emotion. It’s through that spiritpiece that I realized how to bring people into the present andwhat it would mean to them. Opening themselves to their heartand soul would change their lives.

In this book, you’ll learn clear techniques for making thishappen. You’ll learn how to take the mystery out of it all. You’lllearn how to activate your life purpose.

One of my clients sent me a note about an “Aha moment”when she discovered how the soul works in our lives. I want toshare it with you:

Prologue

For almost 40 years, my ego carried me through life. Itprotected me from seeing a larger picture. You see, I lived inthe “real world.” I always had an opinion from my small viewof life about anything that happened on the news or in mypersonal life. I lived in fear and control, thinking it was safe.

Being in survival every day, I didn’t do too much thinkingfrom a higher place. I didn’t stop to consider the future orhow life really works, with its positive and negative polaritiesin actual harmony. My limited thinking didn’t let me see thewhole picture of a situation and how we’re just visitors to thisPlanet Earth.

I didn’t connect life and death with cyclical experienceson Earth, such as seasons. I’d heard it was the case, but Ididn’t know it. I was not able to see beyond the loss.

In that “real world,” we only have one life. Death is badbecause it’s final. I never thought we had any choice. And Icertainly didn’t know how to celebrate a life after deaththrough the pain of grief.

The heart connects us to wisdom, and it takes grief toopen it – that is, if we can get through the grief.

A natural occurrence opened my perceptions of life, andthen I was able to expand the thoughts to being human and

Page 20: Launch your inner radar sample

the experience of it. Certainly if I were a farmer, I would’vethought more soulfully about life sooner because farmers arein touch with nature every day.

Fires raged in the Western states for months during thatsummer. This was not the first time I’d heard reports of forestfires. But it was the first time I was so aware that this wasoccurring for so long a time and the losses were so great. As Iwent to work, did my chores, and watched television in theevening, I could hear the reports of forest fires destroyinglarge quantities of trees that would be lost forever. Some of thefires were started by electrical storms or just the heat of thesummer. Others were reported to have been carelessly ignitedby campers.

We ate dinner with radio or television on, and I wouldhear the same things over and over. I became so aware of thefires, it began to irritate me almost to tears. I found myselfmourning the loss of the forests and disliking the carelesspeople who might have started the fires.

In September of that year, I watched a television showabout forests. Fires had been put out and some fizzled outthemselves. The commentator spoke of how old the trees werein the forests, and said trees have a life span. About every 200years or so, fires break out and destroy sections of the forests. The burning of the trees deposits minerals into the soil, thusenriching the top six inches or more of soil. This prepares abed for the new growth that will occupy the forest for anotherfew hundred years.

Scientists know this by studying the layers of earth andcan tell when the layers were formed. They know this is acycle of life for forests.

When I heard this, I stopped mourning the loss of theforests, knowing that new trees will grow and we, as humans, can help this process and let it happen more naturally if we’re

Page 21: Launch your inner radar sample

xixL a u n c h Y o u r I n n e r R a d a r

careful. I realized the trees were not gone forever. There was apurpose and wisdom involved here.

My thoughts started to expand to many aspects of life, including everything I saw. I realized our bodies are made ofmaterials from this earth and are only temporary. The bodyitself is a nutrient for the soil. We don’t want to think of this, but it’s true.

Thoughts about many things fell into place for me then. Ibegan to understand the temporary cycles of the earth. Theycan be seen in every aspect of our human experience.

Grief comes and goes if we let it flow through and out ofus. Hard times end if we let them go. Letting go allows thenew to flow to us so we can experience new growth.

This clarified for me how we’re visitors, the eternal souland spirit, living in our temporary residence of the body.

Everything that’s made from this earth has a life span. Butthe soul and spirit are not of the earth, they are eternal. Life iseternal.

Each of us has inner radar. We were issued it at birth. It’sstandard equipment. Just like the body and the mind, itworks on automatic and does the minimum that’s

required until you decide to develop it for your unique lifepurpose.

Your inner radar works behind the scenes to make thingshappen. You don’t realize it at first, but you do feel the results. You’re struggling with a major conflict, and a resolution comesout of nowhere, almost as if the problem has simplydisappeared. Or you’re thinking about someone you haven’tspoken with in a long time, and that person calls you on thephone or shows up at your door. Or you’re looking forsomething that’s hard to find and you just happen to meet theperson who can provide it.

Your inner radar is engaged when you know somethingbefore it happens. You might even say out loud, “déjà vu!”

Or maybe you’ve found yourself saying, “I must have aguardian angel! If I’d left 10 minutes earlier, I would have beencaught in that accident.” Or you’ve been surprised to arrive at animportant appointment five minutes early when you wererunning 20 minutes behind with no hope of getting there on time.

These are all signs your inner radar is hard at work behind

the scenes, even if you haven’t been aware of it. That’s becausethis mechanism is part of who you are, and it’s directed by yoursoul, a unique and powerful part of you that most likely haslain dormant, waiting to be explored.

Your inner radar is powered up all the time, but your abilityto interpret it and respond to it often remains turned off. Maybeyou’ve visited a psychic in the past. If so, you were seeking helpinterpreting your inner radar. But who can read it better thanyou? That’s why psychics are not always 100 percent accurate –because they’re interpreting signs, symbols and visions based ontheir own knowledge and experience rather than yours.

Your soul helps you find the power switch, activating yourability to use your inner radar and tap into the psychic side ofyourself. Your soul helps you direct this power. Without clarity, your inner radar is just raw ability, like electric power that hasno way to get to a wall socket to be used. Your potential goes towaste and slips away into the air if you don’t figure out a way toharness it.

Your soul can help you use this tool, acting as a director orcoach to help you use your inner radar to its fullest capacity. But you have to assign that job to your soul. It waits for you tomake that assignment. In this book, you’ll learn how to do that.

This book is about taking the mystery out of your innerradar and the soul’s role in using it, and “re-introducing” you tothis internal wisdom very few of us have learned to use. I say re-introducing because you already know this part of yourself. Youwere born knowing it. You’ve experienced it all your life but justhaven’t realized it.

Knowing of your inner radar’s existence and understandinghow to use it are two different things. How do you truly takeadvantage of this wellspring of inner wisdom and harness it to

Just because your inner radar is working, that doesn’t meanyour soul is engaged. I’ll help you take steps toward working inpartnership with your soul. You’ll explore your soul’s manyfacets to discover and live your purpose.

Your soul knows what you’re here to do. It knows your truepotential. Your soul is the director of your life purpose, and youmust have a relationship and connection with this part ofyourself before you can clear the way to fulfill what you’re hereto do and be. When you align with this powerful aspect ofyourself, you’ll discover your own power, strength and direction.

What’s really happening when yousee the signs of your inner radar

If you have a connection and relationship with your soul, you can better interpret what your inner radar is trying to tellyou in these situations and receive the full benefit of thisknowledge. Consider these possibilities:

• You realize something you learned years ago but neverused is suddenly exactly what you need to know today. For instance, you learned how to make a mosaictabletop even though that wasn’t one of your hobbiesor interests. Twenty years later, at work, one of thedesigners asks whether anyone knows anything aboutmosaics, and you’re able to supply the knowledgeneeded for the project and are acknowledged as anexpert in a new area.

• While driving or walking, you make a wrong turn only to

Page 28: Launch your inner radar sample

find it got you to the right spot. You end up spotting anideal house for sale in a neighborhood you nevernoticed before, or the restaurant everyone’s beentalking about but you weren’t sure where to find.

• You understand in hindsight why something happened, even though at the time you resented it or were confusedby it. You’re offered a new position at work that wouldinvolve relocation away from your aging parents. Theyencourage you to take it because they know it’s yourdream job, and you accept but are turned down and it’sgiven to someone else. A year later, one of your parentsdies and you realize you wouldn’t have had that timetogether if you’d gotten the job.

• Things, resources or people appear just when you realizeyou need them. You’re sitting with a group of friendsand you’re talking about something you need, and afriend you’ve known for 20 years turns out to be anexpert in that area even though you had no idea.

• People from your past contact you right after you’vethought about them out of the blue. You see an oldfriend in a dream or when you’re sitting to meditate, and that person sends you an e-mail the next day.

• A book falls off a shelf and it’s just what you need to readat that time in your life, or you receive a random e-mailcontaining a message that’s surprisingly relevant to youright now. You’re trying to resolve a conflict in yourmind, and at the dentist’s office you pick up amagazine and turn right to an article that outlines theanswers for you.

Stephanie was a 35-year-old extremely successful financialanalyst. She was a strong-minded, no-nonsense personwho worked hard and played even harder. She had a

history of addiction, abuse and difficult family dynamics, andher feelings were shut down. The strength of her mind was theonly thing keeping her life under control.

The company she had been working with for five years hadoffered her the position of chief financial officer. After twoweeks, she still could not make up her mind what to do. Herindecision made absolutely no sense to her and she was feelingdesperately conflicted.

From a very young age, Stephanie was driven to please herfather in every way she could. Her father was an accountantwith the dream of being the head of a large company someday, but physical illness and a short life kept him from fulfilling hisdream. So Stephanie majored in finance in college and set hergoal to become the CFO of a large corporation. Even though herfather had passed away while she was still in college, she kepther goal and continued striving to live out her father’s dream.

When I met Stephanie, I recognized the challenge she facedwas not a job decision but a life choice. Her past was not hersbut her father’s, and in the present something was happening

that was causing her to hesitate about continuing to live herfather’s life. She was being pushed to find her own life and shewas frightened.

My curiosity about how her soul was moving her towardthis change in her life led me to ask her what she did for fun.Besides traveling and shopping, Stephanie said she loved music. She became a “Dead Head” when she was 14 years old. TheGrateful Dead’s music was her greatest escape and her spiritualhigh. While she was talking about the music and the concertsshe had attended, I saw a spark in the corners of her eyes. But Isensed that the music was not what was moving her into theconfusion she was currently facing.

I asked whether she attended workshops or seminars andwhat kinds of books she liked. Stephanie said she was well-read,she loved the movies and she was always attending seminars tokeep current in her profession. As she was giving me whatseemed to be a routine account of the seminars she had attendedand the books she had read, she suddenly stopped. Her eyesturned down and darkened, and she folded her hands on her lap.Taking in a long breath, she slowly said, “Three weeks ago afriend of mine took me to a very strange lecture. It was kind ofweird, and I don’t know why I went, but she had an extra ticketand I had nothing else scheduled. I didn’t get much out of it.”

At that moment Stephanie’s demeanor shifted to one of asweet, vulnerable little girl. I asked her to tell me a little aboutthe program. She just looked at me, unable to express anythingabout the experience. This was my cue that we had found thesource of her current crisis.

She quickly regained her composure and said, “Oh, it was adoctor named Bernie Siegel, and he was talking about love andhealing or something like that. Have you ever heard of him?”

Page 31: Launch your inner radar sample

9L a u n c h Y o u r I n n e r R a d a r

This helped me see she already had been introduced to therelationship between energy and physical healing.

Stephanie and I started working together and her life beganto unfold. Three years after our first meeting, Stephanie said shehardly recognized her life. The following is a recap of heradventure with her soul. It started with two very distinct issues:

• Her responsibility to live up to her father’s expectationsand dreams.

• An emptiness in her heart that was causing her to questionwhat her life was really about.

I suggested we consult with her soul about how to come toterms with the crisis she felt she was facing. Stephanie wasdoubtful about my suggestion. She had absolutely no referenceto her soul. She said she had a strong, well-developed mind, sheused it to survive, and she depended on it for her success – andthat she didn’t need her soul for that.

“How can my soul possibly help me if this is the way myworld looks to me?” she asked.

Stephanie described herself as left-brain dominant, whichmade her skeptical. She said she always wanted proof. Shedescribed her life purpose in terms of her goals and not a higherpurpose or power. She said she needed for everything to beconcrete and consistent in her life, and that she was driven bythe need to be right and to be in control. Because she valuedprecision and order, she said, she followed all rules to the letter ofthe law. Everything to her was either black or white with noroom for interpretation. She told me that airy-fairy, touchy-feelythings like the soul and the heart had no place in her world.

Stephanie said she stood in judgment of everyone whocouldn’t keep up with her bright mind and she didn’t think hersoul would approve of what she perceived as an unforgivable

Page 32: Launch your inner radar sample

weakness in herself. In addition, she said her authority andsuccess in her profession came from her skill and ability tothink, not to feel. Because of her critical nature, she wasconsidered by her colleagues to be aggressive and somewhatruthless on the job. She told me this was the person she had tobe in order to excel in the male-dominated world of corporatefinance, which was no place for heart or soul.

She did soften a little when she told me she had recentlynoticed that the travel, chocolates, shopping, alcohol and drugsshe used for relaxation and release just were not enough to keepaway the loneliness, depression and growing sense of confusion. For this reason, she said she’d be willing to explore the avenueof soul connection in her life.

With the help of her soul, we used tools, techniques andmeditations, as well as trust and courage, to help her move forward. We divided her exploration into five distinct parts or steps:

1. Create her soul.2. Finish what she started.3. Acknowledge her soul’s calling.4. Recover and discover her “self.”5. Explore her future.

Creating her soul

Stephanie created a complex soul. Part of it was a strong,bigger-than-life male she could depend on to be practical, protective of her high standards and empowered. The other partof her soul was compassionate, caring, intuitive, wise andplayful. She envisioned her soul as a man around 55 years old.He wore conservative “casual Friday” clothes. His facial featureswere strong, and he had a commanding presence. He alwayscarried a small black leather briefcase in his right hand. This

Page 33: Launch your inner radar sample

11L a u n c h Y o u r I n n e r R a d a r

case held his magic hat. It was a large purple wizard hatadorned with gold and silver suns and moons.

When she called on her soul, the image of the conservativeman would appear first. She would present him with herinquiries and wait for his response. When he was finished withhis contemplation, he would turn his back, open his case andplace the hat on his head. When he turned back to faceStephanie, he was transformed into her very own version of thelate Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. His wild gray hair and fullfrosted beard stuck out all around the hat and face. His eyes werea bright blue that danced with light. When he laughed, his bellymoved and the moon at the tip of the hat went wild. He wore ablack T-shirt and black jeans. She described him as magical.

Stephanie could always hear a Grateful Dead song playing inthe back of her head when his image appeared. The song wouldcarry an important message about her inquiry every time. Thisis how we communicated and connected with her soul duringmost of our beginning work together.

As she progressed in her partnership with her soul, she foundit necessary to evolve her soul’s persona to the call of a raven thatannounced her soul’s presence and the image became one of abeautiful and compassionate yet commanding goddess.

Later, when she began her new career as an alternativehealing practitioner, her soul appeared to her as a circle ofhealers and masters that acted as her council in her daily work.

Finishing what she started

Stephanie was facing a very exciting decision in her life. Shehad worked hard to get to the current place in her career, yetshe was hesitant about the future. We asked her soul to showher how to proceed and to give her some insight about her

Page 34: Launch your inner radar sample

12 L a u n c h Y o u r I n n e r R a d a r

career direction. The picture unfolded for Stephanie as weemployed a series of meditations that explored her past-lifeexperiences, her future self and a release of her karma. We alsoused exercises that helped her reunite with her current self andexplore her life’s journey. You will find those meditations andexercises in the chapters that follow.

She discovered that her drive to be a CFO for her father alsocame from an unfinished commitment from a past life. In thatlife, she had been called away from her lifelong dream to have abusiness in the city because her father had died and she’d had tosuddenly take over the family farm. She became a slave to herfamily obligation and buried her dreams. On her deathbed shevowed to herself that if she ever got the chance again, she wouldfind a way to both fulfill her obligations and live her dreams. This is when her karma, or unfinished past, was born for this life.

Her soul showed her that by going ahead and accepting theCFO position, she would finish her past obligations andcommitments as well as satisfy her need to please her father. Thismade very good sense, and it all seemed quite straightforward toStephanie. She said if this karma from the past was in fact her path, purpose and future, she was willing to take it on. She left that daycommitted to carry on with the task of working as the CFO.

Two weeks after this discovery Stephanie came back to me in afull-blown reaction. She walked into the office clearly agitated. Shestarted pacing, and as she paced she became more and moreanimated. It looked like she was doing a war dance, flailing herarms and stomping her feet and whirling around. But nothing wascoming out of her mouth. Finally, after she had danced herself intoa tizzy, her eyes glossy and distant, she stopped, looked rightthrough me and shrieked, “What is my problem?! I just can’t settledown and do the job.”

We had not yet explored with her soul the reason she had

Page 35: Launch your inner radar sample

13L a u n c h Y o u r I n n e r R a d a r

been hesitant about taking on the CFO position, so I had beenanticipating her return and was excited about addressing thenext piece of her soul picture.

Acknowledging her soul’s calling

Stephanie told me she knew intuitively there had to be moreher soul wanted to share with her than the insight into her pastlife and the direction she needed to take to finish up her presentobligations and commitments.

I started this phase of her journey with her soul by askingher whether she had experienced in her life any of thefollowing things:

• An unexplainable drive to do something.• A feeling that she had something really big or importantto do in her life.

• A recurring dream to do, be or create something. How she responded to those inquiries shaped how we would

proceed. Stephanie told me the only drive she had everacknowledged was to be where she was today, a CFO. She saidthat was as far as her dreams and drives went. She said if she’dhad any of the above thoughts or had experienced anyinteractions with her soul, she probably would have deniedthem as irrelevant and just a moment of insanity, a bad trip, ablip, stress or the product of a hangover.

These statements told me Stephanie did not have the skill, experience or direction she needed to recognize what her lifewas about. She had no connection with her purpose and noknowledge of her path in life. So we created a way for her tointeract in a comfortable and familiar way with her soul, usingher Grateful Dead connection. Through the music, Stephaniewas able to piece together her picture of her calling and

Page 36: Launch your inner radar sample

14 L a u n c h Y o u r I n n e r R a d a r

purpose. The techniques we used I will share with you in thechapters that follow.

Once she had the picture of what her life was about, obstaclesin the form of resistance, denial and judgments started to surface. She voiced a string of questions, doubts and fears: “How is itpossible? I can’t do that. How do I start? I have to give upeverything I’ve ever done. I’m not ready. I’m scared. This is crazy.”

I let her know it was normal to respond as she had whenfaced with a greater picture of her life and its purpose.Stephanie’s obstacles made her purpose look like aninsurmountable collection of tasks. But with the help of hersoul, she was assured that only fear of the unknown and a lackof knowledge or trust in herself created her objections andobstacles. Our work together moved her into an intensiveprogram of self-discovery that helped her recover abilities, skillsand gifts she had buried or simply not fully developed.

Recovering and discovering her ‘self’

We started with Stephanie’s present definition of herself andan inventory of her abilities, education and skills. It was apparentto her from her self-examination that she saw herself as a productof her home, school and work environments, and aside from herdiversion into the world of the Grateful Dead, she thoughtherself to be predictable, uninteresting and somewhat narrow.

Stephanie’s definition of herself and the person I hadexperienced her to be during our times together were verydifferent, so I suggested she take a series of personality andcareer development inventories to draw out some of her hiddenstrengths and weaknesses. This part of Stephanie’s work tookthe longest time, and she felt it was definitely the mostchallenging. She wanted to give up a hundred times, but she

Page 37: Launch your inner radar sample

15L a u n c h Y o u r I n n e r R a d a r

was determined to expand her horizons beyond the narrowworld of her past. To gather a list of possible areas of careerexploration, I suggested we go to a bookstore and get familiarwith what was happening in the world.

Having watched Stephanie’s progress over the past year, I hada sense of where her soul might take her, so instead of going toBarnes & Noble or the university bookstore, we went to the localNew Age bookseller. Mind open and ready to jump in, Stephaniewalked through the doors. I could tell by her furrowed brow, hernarrow, deep-set eyes and her clenched fists that we had justentered unfamiliar territory and she was feeling threatened.

After a couple of deep breaths and a call to her soul forsupport, she ventured into the store. It was just beforeChristmas, so the store was packed with merchandise: crystals, essences, fountains, angels jewelry and, yes, books. Four hourslater, we found our way back out the door. She was armed withthree shopping bags full of new treasures, as well as a sessionwith a tarot card reader, an aura analysis and a stack of fliers forworkshops and seminars.

It took three years for Stephanie to absorb the informationfrom the new worlds that had opened to her. She attendedclasses, joined the Unity Church and always had a stack of 20books in progress piled next to her bed. She meditated everyday. She visited a chiropractor, tried acupuncture, andparticipated in energy work from a variety of alternativepractitioners.

Old concepts, prejudices and judgments started to drop away. Her lifestyle became what she describes as eclectic bordering oneccentric. She said she was excited about who she was discoveringherself to be. She saw her unique self beginning to emerge.

She said she took to the energy of crystals like a duck to

Page 38: Launch your inner radar sample

water. She was able to find the scientific and medical researchshe needed to satisfy her factual, skeptical mind and slowly, over time, she found that her sensitivity and mysticalexperiences became strong and valid. Stephanie no longerreferred to the spiritual world as “foo-foo.”

Exploring her future

With a ritual and a name, Stephanie called her soul present, and the resulting connection was the voice and the sensation inher heart. Stephanie learned to engage her soul’s support in herfuture plans.

At first she was unable to think clearly about her future. Shedid not know how to talk to her soul because she was not sureabout what she really wanted. She was afraid to make a mistake.

She had a faint vision of what she wanted but she didn’tthink it was clear enough to ask her soul to help yet. Shethought she had to have an exact picture before she could ask.

She discovered the path of the future actually unfolds as yougo forward and that you don’t need the whole plan before youget started. In fact, part of the plan is revealed as you go whenyou work with your soul. The process takes time, trust andcommitment.

Stephanie found that through her exploration of her futurewith her soul as a friend and partner, she adopted new attitudesand let go of old agreements. Her fear of the unknown wasreplaced by curiosity and excitement that created butterflies inher belly. Soon her timid, subordinate posture with her soulturned into a strong relationship.

Stephanie developed a way of relating with her soul that wasconcrete and produced results:

• She asked her soul direct questions for clarity.

Page 39: Launch your inner radar sample

17L a u n c h Y o u r I n n e r R a d a r

• She stated to her soul her agenda, for what she thoughtshe wanted.

• She had a plan of action to reach her goals.• She assigned her soul tasks to fulfill.• She solicited the power of her soul to do things she couldnot do alone.

• She let her soul help her.

A life change

Today Stephanie and I have a wonderful friendship. She is avery different person from the one I met seven years ago. Hereyes are deep and her face soft. Her body posture is receptive andopen. She is awesomely compassionate and caring, yetcompletely honest and forthcoming. She dresses in playful, wildcolors, and she is always up for a laugh. Her home is full ofwarmth, honoring the heart and soul at every turn. Stephanie is atrue gift and has something to offer to everyone she encounters.

When she learned I was writing this book, Stephanie sentme a note that read: “Maxine, many, many thanks forintroducing me to the greatest friend, love and partner I haveever known. I celebrate my life!”
