CU OSC - Purpose
• The CU Outer Shipping Container must be capable of transporting and storing the Beam Test CU without damage per the requirements stated in the LAT and MIL applicable documents

• Transportation Environment1. Transport Accelerations vs CU allowable accelerations
Analysis assumes applied environmental load occurs simultaneously in all three axes
Wire ropes isolators in compression/roll orientation
2. Temperature and HumidityThe container shall maintain temperature and humidity requirements as required for the
instrument per LAT-MD-00404, "LAT Contamination Control Plan“

• Base Plate and Pallet act as primary structure carrying load of OSC
• Loads determination and stresses analysis by means of Hand Calculations and FEA Model for:
– Cover– Base plate and Pallet– Lifting Fixture– Interface Plate– Bolted and Welted Joints
• Mass Properties of ISC Payload– Mass 750 kg, MAX– CG (45 mm, -152 mm, 182 mm) from Interface Plate on respect of OSC CG
• Factors of Safety– Yield Design Load FS = 3.0– Ultimate Design Load: FS = 5.0
• Structural Margins of Safety Must be Positive

• Proof Load Test– Lifting equipment proof test
• Test items: Base plate, pallet and lifting fixture
• Test with a dummy load as close as possible to, but not exceeding 125% of the rated load
• Edgewise Drop (FED STD. 101C)
• Test items: OSC, ISC, grid simulator, mass simulators
• Height of drop: 0.23m (9 inches)
• Leaks Test• Test item: cover, base plate
• Load cycles from min overpressure of 0.05atm (value at INFN integration building, 2m altitude) to max overpressure of 0.2 atm (value at max INFN-CERN route altitude, 1381 m)
• Static leaks test at min overpressure (<0.1atm). Duration of at least 30min with no leaks
