LaserSweep™

Portable Infrastructure Gauging Measurement

LRLS04

The LaserSweep™ system is supplied with a rugged PDA as standard, which is installed with the LaserSweep™ operating software and features Bluetooth® connectivity. When combined with the standard internal battery, this ensures a cable free measurement system highly suited to the rail environment.

Full profiles, part profiles, and single points can easily be captured, ensuring efficient use of time on track.

The output from the LaserSweep™ is directly compatible with Balfour Beatty Rail’s ClearRoute™ software, for analysis and investigation of vehicle clearances following the survey.

The LaserSweep™ system has been designed and built to meet with the UK’s statutory and safety regulations and has been awarded Product Approval by Network Rail.

The LaserSweep™ is a well proven, versatile and portable measurement system which is used to measure the spatial position of railway structures and features for the purpose of calculating clearances.

The product has been extensively used on Network Rail and London Underground infrastructure, and internationally in North America and Australia. The LaserSweep™ has a proven record of reliability and performance within its field.

The system is rail mounted and designed to enable the user to undertake fast and accurate spatial measurements of a range of railway infrastructure. This includes tunnels, overbridges, underbridges, platforms, signals, station canopies and discrete points such as OLE and cable brackets.

LaserSweep™ Portable Infrastructure Gauging Measurement

• LaserSweep™ is able to perform a range of measurements including structures profiles and track cant.

• Main system comprises a measurement head, a spring mounted rail foot, and a rugged PDA

• Rail mounted referencing of the running edge of the (datum) rail through hardened steel points

• Structure profile measurements are taken in Plane of Rail and corrected for the measured track cant

• Features a configurable automatic measurement mode and a manual measurement mode for the capture of discrete points

• Bluetooth® connectivity eliminates the need for cabling and enables the LaserSweep™ to be used with a PDA and/or Tablet computer

• Internal battery power provides 5 hours of continuous on-site measurement, with the option of an additional power supply with an external 4 hour battery

• Distance accuracy of +/- 1.5mm (to 2 sd)

• Day or night time use

• Excellent reflectivity performance ensures reliable profile measurement under all conditions

• All weather operation

• Battery charging facility for both 240v and 110v (such as underground tunnel power supply)

• Approved for use on the UK mainline network and London Underground

• Electronic user manual

• Portable (650 x 300 x 300mm in supplied holdall) and suitable for single operator use

Balfour Beatty Rail offers a LaserSweep course covering all aspects of setting up and using a Bluetooth® LaserSweepTM with a PDA to survey structures.

The Course includes an assessment leading to a certificate being awarded to successful delegates. The course covers how to assemble and use the LaserSweepTM and includes hints and tips for ensuring that the measured profile is an accurate representation of the structure.

The training takes place at the Balfour Beatty Rail specialist facility in Derbyshire or at the client’s own premises.
