Laser Cutting Services – Everything Explained For You
As the name suggests, laser cutting is a technology that uses laser beams of varying
intensities to cut materials. Laser cutting systems have been quite in demand for normal
and high quality laser cutting of various substances ranging from fabric to metal.
Depending on the need for laser makers, there are different types of laser cutting
systems. However, laser technology is capable of offering unprecedented levels of
machining, especially in micro machining applications and engraving techniques. These
are high-speed cylindrical laser cutting systems, which uses CO2 laser cutting, fibre
lasers, diode lasers, ion lasers, etc.
Laser Cutting Services - How does it work?
Laser cutting technique has been widely recognized as the most feasible solution for
precision cutting a wide variety of materials in desired shape and size. It is considered
as a state-of-the-art method to cut hydro-formed parts and tubes, thin-sheet metals and
thick-section materials in an accurate manner to make them usable.
It works by using a high intensity laser beam, which is generated in the laser source and
is directed towards the work piece using mirrors in different positions. This intense
laser beam is then concentrated by a lens to a small spot on the surface of the material
to be cut. The high intensity laser beam quickly heats up and melts the work piece. In
this stage, desired cutting gas also known as assist gas is applied in order to protect and
cool the focusing lens. However, depending on the type of cutting gas used, the laser
cutting method is divided into two types. They are as follows,
Cutting with non-reactive gases - This clean-cutting or high-pressure cutting
leads the work piece to melt due to the intensity of the laser beam. The melted
material is then blown out of the cut kerfs by the kinetic energy of the gas jet.
Since non-reactive gases do not react with the melted material, there is no
additional heat evolved during this process.
Cutting with Oxygen - by using oxygen as an assist gas, the material is heated up
to ignition temperature by laser beam, then burned, and vaporized.
Laser Cutting Services - What Should You Expect From the Manufacturer?
Engaging yourself in services of a manufacturer for laser-enabled cutting services offers
a wide array of advantages. Firstly, it offers flexibility to your operations and saves your
intensive capital investment, training process, and time-consuming installation process.
However, a manufacturer dealing in laser markers system should have specialized
expertise in a narrow field and able to put the required capital investments at a right
place.
Laser-enabled cutting can be used for applications such as précised cutting of stents,
medical devices, surgical cools, or orthopaedic and cardiovascular implants. On the
other hand, an experienced cutting manufacturing services provider should be able to
use advanced lasers to cut a variety of materials and metals including super alloys, steel,
copper, brass, aluminium, nitinol, tungsten, nickel, titanium, and more. In addition to all
these commonly used metals, other materials such as ceramics, plastics, wood, rubber,
quartz, and several other composites can be cut using lasers. Therefore, you need to
consult the manufacturer beforehand whether he will be able to offer these services or
not.
