Look at how it changed from 1954 to 2011 Infrastructure is a term architects, engineers, and urban planners use to describe essential facilities for cities and communities. Infrastructure includes roads, bridges, mass-transit systems, electrical lines, water lines, sewers, and fire and police stations. Why is Infrastructure Important? Failed Levee in New Orleans 2008 When you build your city in Sims and on your model, YOU MUST consider the placement of everything! I am sure the engineers, city planners and architects that designed Las Vegas in the 50s would have planned the city differently if they would have known we would have a city like we do today. YOUR JOB IS TO THINK OF ALL POSSIBILITIES for your city. Various areas to consider in infrastructure Roads In the 1954 picture of the Las Vegas strip, one of the first things you notice is the road. Why do we need roads? It needs to accommodate (fit) the amount of people who are going to use it. Would the road of 1954 still be usable today? 1954 shot further down strip Notice the two lanes on each side with center divide. The Sands is gone and the Venetian, etc is in its place A little different, right? OOPS! Will it be outdated in 20 years? Is it big enough? Is it sound enough? Does the size fit the location: residential, business, industry. Is it built to lastor will it sink? What kind of transportation do you need for your city based on the year of your FUTURE city? Ha Ha, never forget to laugh Remember this! You dont want to be all over the place! And dont forget: pathways Airports are another way to import and export commercial goods. They also bring in tourists and others from other cities and countries With proper authorities, they provide security to an area. Think it through! They built without thinking about mass transit. Now, it is nearly impossible for them to do it, the only option they had was this monorail. Pollution Population Make sure you can add it in. One for people, one for goods Is it by residential and commercial? How do you power up? Lights, computers, air conditioning, you name it, it needs power. How do we get energy? Energy sources When thinking about what type of energy you want for you city consider the following: Pollution Power fluctuations Back up Needs Self sufficiency Examples of power Water Power Telephone Internet Utilities need to be provided to: homes, schools, industry and commercial.
