Is God calling you to be involved in the
Pro-Life Movement?
Before we succumb to the ethic of researchers who
brazenly create, manipulate and destroy embryonic human
lives, the American public should reflect with awe on the
miraculous process by which one-celled human embryos
become doctors, teachers, firefighters, and members of
Congress. Life must be protected at all stages.

VOCATIONS CORNER
A vocation must be nurtured for a lifetime, not just until ordination or the taking of vows. You can help nurture the vocations of priests, sisters and brothers by praying,
listening, and expressing appreciation. A life of service needs support from those served.

How, where, why and who is it possible to
baptize someone in the Catholic Church? First of all, “how” someone is baptized is easy – pour water over the person and pray “I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Anyone can do this, whether they are a Christian or not. The “where” is usually in the local church or parish church of the family presenting the child or adult for baptism. The “why” is the most important part – for the eternal salvation of the person’s soul. We should all desire and work actively to see that everyone we know is baptized. We as Catholics have as our main ministry in life to see that others hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and respond to his call to the kingdom.
What do you have to do to have your baby baptized at Holy Cross, or to be baptized as an adult? Parents and godparents need to take instructions in their duties as parents/sponsors and the importance of the sacrament; the symbols of water, oil, candle and white garment. God parents need to be practicing members of the Church – preferably living here in the parish and near by the parents. Their role is to help raise the child in the faith. If the parents are married, they need to be married by the Church so that they can be going to communion together to set the example for the child and his parents.
Do you know who your godparents are? Do you hear from them? Do the godparents of your child keep in touch with him/her? The ideal is to have regular practicing members of the Church reach out to new members and guide them by word and example. This is especially important for adults seeking to be baptized. Their spouse should not be their sponsor, but can and should go through the formation process leading to the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) at Easter.
Do you know someone who needs a little “help” in getting baptized this year? Are you willing to serve as a sponsor for someone you know who isn’t baptized, or is baptized in another church and wants to join us in going to Holy Communion? Now is the time! Get a hold of them and bring them in to see me or one of our deacons. What a wonderful “gift” you can be for them.
I’m going to take a few days off this week and visit my friend Fr. Dave Bergs who’s retired and living in Puerto Vallarta. I plan to return on the 20th.

MISIONERS FOR CHRIST MINISTRY
What if every single Catholic Church took 1
hour a week, or even a month to go out and
invite those people who for one reason or
another have ceased to attend Mass on Sunday or to be
active in the church? A lot of time all that is needed is a
little encouragement and knowing that someone does
care in order to take that step and return. Well you have
the opportunity to do just that! A group from Holy
Cross has been doing this since June. So far over a
hundred homes have been visited and many have re-
turned to receive sacraments. It is very rewarding and
fun to pair up with someone from the parish and do just
that. Won’t you join us? If you are interested in finding
more about it please call Martha Gurrola at 621-5200 or
call the parish office and leave a message. There is a one
hour ongoing training for everyone interested!
