Falcons.    The  Lady Hawks  emerged with  a  2‐0  victory,  a  school  record  third  shutout,  and  a 

school record sixth varsity win.  Nine minutes into the contest junior Megan Smith scored on an 

assist from senior Shelby Mouser.  With the sterling defense led by senior Justine Scroggins, the 

single score  held up until four minutes remaining in the match as junior Skye Davis notched the 

final total with an assist from freshman Shelbi Brooks.  This goal proved to be the final goal of 

the season.  Coincidentally, Skye also scored the first goal of the season.  This victory propelled 

the  young  Lady  Hawks  to  an  enthusiastic    celebration  that  would  warm  any  cold‐hearted 

doubter of these stalwarts. 

Fall Break held one match.  Unfortunately, it was against the favored Taylor County Lady 

Cardinals on their senior night.  The Lady Hawks sat patiently during the first match of the night 

as  they witnessed  the boys  team defeat  the   host  team, 2‐0.   The game became a defensive 

battle with a multitude of midfield play and strong  tackles.   The young   defense of  freshmen 

Sydney  Price,  Abby Modrowski,  Kelsey  Rutledge, Marissa  Crosswhite,  juniors Misty  England, 

Mariah Higdon, Amarah Reed, and senior Justine Scroggins bent but refused to break.  The play 

of the defense was anchored by the brilliant play of sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Wells. Kasey 

recorded her fourth shutout of the season and should develop into the most successful keeper 

at LaRue County. 

The district  tournament pitted  the Banshees of Bethlehem  versus  the  Lady Hawks of 

LaRue County.   Four years of frustration ended as the girls held the opponents to only a five‐

goal  defeat.   History...the Banshees  have mercy‐  ruled  (ten‐goal  difference)  the  Lady Hawks 

every year of their existence.  The improvement and development of this team was never more 

evident than this final game as the young  ladies battled to the bitter end, even attempting to 

score in the final minutes of the match.  The Banshees scored their first goal twelve minutes in.  

The Lady Hawks attempted an equalizing goal with  five minutes remaining  in  the  first half as 

Shelby Mouser's  shot  caromed  off  the  crossbar.    Then,  the  opponent's  scored  with  thirty 

seconds before intermission. 

We  bid  a  tearful,  but  fond  adieu  to  our  seniors  ‐‐Shelby Mouser,  Justine  Scroggins, 

Britney Mack, Hannah Partridge, and Lydia Richardson.  They provided the leadership, example, 

work ethic, and determination for the most successful Lady Hawk soccer team in school history.   

Shelby drove to her fourteenth goal and ninth assist to place her in second place on the all‐time 

scoring  list,  despite  playing  half  her  career  as  a  defender.    Justine  emerged  as  the  strong 

defender after scoring four goals her sophomore year.  Because of these women, the last week 

and this  season can only be labeled as "The Good, the Good, and the Better!"

Free College Credit! 

A partnership between  LaRue County Adult and Family Education and Elizabethtown Community and 

Technical  College  to  offer  free  college  classes  is  available  at  the  LaRue  County  Learning  Center.  

Currently, you may obtain credit for Developmental Math 055 and/or 065 by attending classes at LaRue 

County Adult and Family Education and passing an exit exam.  Once you enroll at ECTC and take at least 

one class, the free classes offered through Adult Education will appear on your transcript.  Phone Sarah

LaRue County Reads 

Being a volunteer  tutor with LaRue County Reads  is a great way  to  impact  the  future.   Reading  is  the 

cornerstone  of  academic  success;  volunteers  and  sponsoring  employers  are  helping  build  strong 

readers.  For as little as 30 minutes a week, you can make a real difference in the life of a child both now 

and  in the future.   For more  information about the next tutor training contact Sarah Hornback at 358‐

8334.   

 

Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund 

The Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund was established  to give assistance  to  the  indigent children of 

LaRue  County  and  is  entirely  supported  by  the  generosity  of  LaRue  Countians.   While  some  limited 

medical and dental services are provided, the vast majority of the fund is used to purchase clothing for 

needy children in the form of $30 vouchers that can be spent at three LaRue County businesses:  Dollar 

General, Family Dollar, and Pamida.   Contributions come from civic clubs, religious groups, businesses, 

individuals, Memorial gifts, bequests  in wills, and an annual  fund drive at each  LaRue County  school.  

Collected  from  LaRue  Countians,  for  the  benefit  of  LaRue  children,  and  spent  at  LaRue  County 

businesses, donations to the Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund truly show neighbors helping neighbors.  

All deductions are  tax deductible and  there are no administrative costs deducted  from  the  fund.   The 

KDS Memorial Dinner, a major fundraiser for the program, will be held on Sunday, December 5 at the 

LaRue County Middle School cafeteria.  Musical entertainment and a Christmas play are planned as part 

of the dinner. Tickets are available for $10 at the Board of Education.

The mission  of  the  LaRue  County  Community  Early  Childhood  Council  is  to maximize  resources  and 

encourage  collaboration  to  improve  early  childhood  education  in  LaRue  County.   Whether  a  child  is
