LAPPSETPARKOURParkour started in France in the 1980’s and has spread to other countries, with television documentaries and practitioners showing how it’s done. There are now thousands or tens of thousands of practitioners in nu-merous countries and the number is snowballing. The original idea of parkour is to go from one randomly-cho-sen place to another as nimbly as possible. Practicing parkour movements is, of course, different because it does not involve moving haphazardly from A to B but repeating a movement or series of movements that re-quire practising.

Typical parkour movements are various jumps, overcoming and passing under obstacles, climbing and hanging. Sometimes acrobatic elements, such as palm spins or flips, are also included. Safety, observation of the surrounding environment as well as motivating and respecting other practitioners are essential features of parkour. Parkour is non-competitive and the practition-ers are not judged; movement is the main goal and the force behind the discipline is the joy of workout and a desire to improve skill levels. For those who are no longer children, parkour offers a context where they can “dare” to move in an enjoyable and creative way.

Lappset Group Ltd. has designed its parkour equipment and entire sites in collaboration with parkour profes-sionals, particularly with instructors with experience in working with children, teenagers and adults. Only experienced instructors are able to take the needs of users of all sizes and ages in consideration.

Typical parkour practitioners are between 13 and 20 and live in urban areas. Another considerably big group consists of university students. Most importantly, the number of practitioners is growing fast and includes people from both sexes, all age groups and subcultures. With its street-credibility, parkour manages to encour-age along even those teenagers who are not interested in traditional sports.
