• What is Lap band surgery?Lap band surgery is a kind of Bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) which is also called laparoscopic gastric banding surgery. • Procedure of lap band surgery

Lap band surgery performed laparoscopically. In this surgery, surgeon made small incisions around your abdomen rather than one large incision. After this, narrow hollow tubes are inserted through the incision to the surgical area. Specially designed camera is passed through the tubes to use to see the placement of lap band. With the help of picture on monitor taken by camera, surgeon see what is happing inside and tie lap band at the junction of esophagus and stomach by forming a ring and then fasten the lock which hold your band. Now band is secured in place with sutures which form 15cc small pouch. Now the access port which is underneath of skin on the top part of abdomen is attached with band through tube. Now saline is inserted through this port to expand the band. Amount of saline is inserted depend on the how much weight you have to lose. The whole procedure takes almost 30 minutes. During this surgery you are on general anesthesia.

• How lap band surgery works

Lap band is placed laparoscopically around the stomach to tie it and divide it in two parts. First part is in small size and other part is in large size. There is a narrow outlet between them. Lap band restrict the intake food. It controls the amount of food insertion coming to stomach and also it controls the flow of food going to small intestine. Due to restriction of lap band you will intake small of food and you feel full in it. It drastically change amount of food you take daily. Thus you will lose your weight.

• Eligibility for lap band surgeryBefore going to lap band surgery you have to first confirm that you are eligible for this surgery or not. There some requirement for lap band surgery which you have to fulfill-

After lap band surgery also you have to follow up post-operative test to confirm about any further complication.



• Lap band surgery dietAfter lap band surgery you have to strict on your diet. There are many foods which are restricted after lap band surgery. You have to consult with surgeon to find out which food you have to eat. During 1 to 2 week you have to be on liquid. In between 3 to 4 week you can try to take pureed food. After 4 weeks you can try to take soft food. Strictly you have to follow post-operative diet to achieve the goal of weight loss.
