Hobby’s en intresses In de landschapsarchitectuur heb ik een brede interesse. Zowel in schaalniveau’s als voor stedelijke en landschappelijke gebieden. klimaatverandering, landschapssystemen en stedelijk klimaat zijn begrippen die mij aanspreken. Dat een ontwerp daadwerkelijk iets toevoegd op sociaal, physiek(vorm), ecologisch en klimaat gebied vind ik een belangrijk aspect.Daarnaast hou ik me bezig met sporten zoals hardlopen, basketbal, fitness en voetbal. Ook reizen (andere culturen en landschappen) wekt mijn interesse, in 2011 ben ik vanuit Nederland naar Kyrgizie gefietst.

Dry Waterscapes

Landscape Based Green Infrastructure in Tucson, Arizona

Id Ps Ai CADThe urban drainage system in Tucson today is a neglected spati al enti ty of the urban fabric. In this thesis a research is done on the potenti al of green infrastructure conform the landscape based design approach. The main questi on is: “In what way can the urban landscape off er sustainable soluti ons for the drainage system and engage human and nature in the desert city Tucson?”

This thesis proposes a multi -scale strategy that builds on the bio-physical features of the landscape. Green Infrastructure practi ces along the urban drainage system are sti mulated, with the help of incenti ves, to establish a green and coherent spati al enti ty over ti me. By combining governmental sti mulati on with local initi ati ves the urban drainage system can be transformed into a locally embedded landscape which provides, in this design thesis, slow-traffi c networks, aestheti c pleasing public space, a comfortable micro climate and an increase in

A watershed provides an example of how an urban drainage system can be transformed with carefully selected incenti ves on a meso-scale level. A local design is made for one of the possible incenti ves, to provide an illustrati on of the potenti al urban water landscape. Within the design accessibility, visibility, multi -functi onality, aestheti cs and nature development form important aspects to engage people with their dry waterscape.

The landscape strategy illustrates the potenti al of an integrated large scale urban wash system that combines rainwater run-off detenti on, nature corridors, public space and slow traffi c networks.

For one watershed key locati ons are selected that kick start change. These key locati ons can decrease fl ood problems

signifi cantly by detaining water and are located at the interacti ons of urban social fl ows to accommodate human and

nature interacti on. With the help of design these places can create inspirati onal, cool and aestheti cal oasis in the desert city.

Secti onal elevati on of a 5.000m3 rainwater cistern placed underneath the rainwater run-off detenti on basin. At ground level a shaded public park creates

place for people, water, fl ora and fauna.

The masterplan consist of a rainwater run-off detenti on basin, a water harvest cistern to irrigate the adjacent sporti ng fi elds and integrates public space with nati ve natural landscape. Within the plan fl owing lines are introduced to put emphasis on the natural character and break with the surrounding grid system.

various functi ons and routes. Palo Verde and Mesquite trees provide shade along the route and att ract wildlife. Furthermore, amongst others, Ironwood, Saguaro, Octi llio and Lechuguilla are planted that have characteristi c forms and fl owers and increase

the biodiversity.

Living Roofs

A new public park layer on ‘de Amstel’, Amsterdam

Id Ps Ai CADAs in many citi es, highly urban areas lack public parks and green spaces that can enable interacti on between people and nature. This thesis is an exploratory research to the potenti al of green roofs as a new nature and public park layer within the city of Amsterdam.

Green roofs can provide valuable habitat for, amongst others, birds, butt erfl ies and bees. Based on the building constructi on various roofs can be made accessible for public or semi-public use, providing a magnifi cent view over the city.

The proposed strategy include a new public route on top of proposed new buildings. Non-accessible roofs are planted with a variety of plants and herbs to provide dispersion routes to various natural area’s within the city for bees, birds and butt erfl ies.

On the designed roof a variety of vegetati on zones are planted, creati ng diff erent atmospheres.. The pedestrian path connects the roofs and building entrances. Multi ple viewing points are designed as well as relaxing spaces to comfortable enjoy the sun.

The planti ng scheme with a variety of blooming seasons supporti ng important food, shelter and

breeding spaces for the target species.

Analysis of dispersion distances of the target species. Based on the analysis the non-accessible green roofs

are planted to provide easy routes for the species.

The designed roof is part of a bigger concept which connect social and natural fl ows.

Delta Vorm Groep. Utrecht, the Netherlands

Id Ps Ai CADFor my internship I worked 6 months at Delta Vorm Groep in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Delta Vorm Groep is a small fi rm consisti ng of a landscape architect, a civil engineer and an urban planner. This interdisciplinary team works on projects of a variety of scales but primarily small-scale projects.

During my internship I increased my designing skills by working with small-scale projects. I helped with designing car, cycle and pedestrian routes, squares, detailed constructi ons as well as making illustrati ons for a variety of projects.

Furthermore, I developed my insight in working at an interdisciplinary fi rm doing much more than just designing. Writi ng off ers, parti cipati ng in meeti ng with clients as well as visiti ng projects in realisati on phase were part of the internship.

Last, as a part of my internship I did research to urban farming on rooft ops as part of the living

environment. The main questi on is “What role can urban farming play for the living environment on roof gardens?” Three designs were made playing with public-private space, recreati on-producti on goal and aestheti cal values. This research gave me more in-depth knowledge roof constructi ons, green roof layers and the playing fi eld of public-private space.

Proposed idea of a business campus to boost the amount of companies and increase the liveability of the direct surrounding. By creati ng a multi -purpose parking lot the direct surrounding gives space for play, lunch, relax and small informati on markets while holding the parking capacity.

Ontwerp: Dit ontwerp bestaat uit duidelijke grenzen. De tuin grenst aan het huis en vormt een buffer tussen privé ruimte en algemene ruimte. De moestuinen zijn als vlekken op het dak geland en net zoals de privé tuinen gescheiden door een haag. De algemene ruimte is de ruimte ertussen. Enkele moestuin vlekken zijn ingeruild voor speeltuin, eetruimte of rustplek. Sociaal gebruik: De moestuinen zijn in eerste instantie privé en kunnen zowel gezamelijk als zelfstandig beheert en ingericht worden. Afhankelijk van de vraag kan de verhouding moestuin/algemene ruimte wisselen. Zo geven de vlekken ruimte tot verandering. In dit ontwerp wordt waarde gehecht aan een eigen plek, maar er is genoeg ruimte voor ontdekking en sociale interactie.Ruimtelijk beeld: Op de fotocollage is duidelijk te zien dat er lage hagen zijn toegepast waardoor er overzicht op de daktuin is en grenzen zichtbaar blijven. De pergola is in dit ontwerp toegevoegd. De pergola is een bindend element waar letterlijk allerlei functies aangehangen kunnen worden. Tevens zorgt dit voor variatie in zonrijke en schaduwrijke plekken op het dak. De moestuinen zijn wat meer weggestopt in tussen de hagen en de focus ligt daarom ook op de algemene ruimte en de omgeving.

Naast de voorafgaand besproken projecten heb ik hand en span diensten gedaan bij andere lopende projecten. Vaak bestond dit uit een boekje maken en/of sfeerimpressies maken. In dit hoofdstuk wil ik kort even aanstippen aan welke projecten ik nog meer een bijdrage heb geleverd.

OVERIGE PROJECTEN

Groot Vijverburg - Tystjerk

Groot Vijversburg is het eerste project waaraan ik heb bijgedragen. Naast Deltavormgroep deden ook LOLA en Piet Oudolf mee aan deze park uitbreiding. Dit is een project die ze hebben gewonnen aan de hand van een prijsvraag. Park Groot Vijversburg is een wandelpark met een groeiende kunstcollectie in Tytsjerk, aan de rand van Leeuwarden.Het project liep al enige tijd en was in de DO fase aangekomen. Mijn bijdrage aan het project was het maken van een projectboekje en het visualiseren en aanpassen van de toegangspoort (sketchup)

Floriade

Op drie oktober zijn we met het gehele bureau naar de Floriade geweest. Zelf was ik nog nooit naar een Floriade geweest en ik ben blij dat ik op deze manier toch het evenement mee heb gemaakt. Het was leuk om te zien welke plantencombinaties gemaakt werden om zo mooie beelden op te leveren. Hoofdzakelijk was het gewoon erg gezellig en een leuke manier om even samen te zijn naast het werk.

Sketches & Scale models

During my study, internship and personal work I like to work with hand sketches and drawings. Hand drawings can provide the perfect tool to indicate the phase of a design or indicate the possible end-result. In landscape architecture design there is always a range of uncertainty of how the end-result will look like, primarily because we work with natural elements. Therefore, I believe hand drawings are essenti al to give a fair illustrati on of the possible end-result of a design.

Furthermore, in this paragraph scale models a shown. Scale models are an incredible handy tool to get a feeling of the locati on or a proposed design. With a scale model a bett er 3d understanding is created and it can provide a strong elaborati on of the design for the client.
