Landichos receive Distinction in ICAS
Once again the Landichos made it to the top!
Juan Rafael Landicho, a Sixth Grade Valiant Knight, and Maria
Bernadette Landicho, a Fifth Grade Valiant Knight, both bagged a Distinction
Award in the 2017 International Competitions and Assessments for School
(ICAS) – Mathematics conducted last August 2017.
The Educational Assessment Australia revealed that there are 384
participants in the Philippines who were awarded with distinction certificates
and two among those outstanding students are the Landichos.
The school would like to thank all the parents and guardians of the Valiant
Knights who supported them during the school’s Intramurals last November 21-24.
Thank you for your generosity in sponsoring drinks to our valiant players.
Indeed, all your support motivated the students to do their best and achieve in all of
the games they played. Moreover, your presence during the Intramurals week
greatly inspired the players to be committed in achieving more.
You also helped us in instilling the values of integrity, commitment, and
sportsmanship to our dear students. We are more than thankful with your
overwhelming support in all of the activities of the school. We definitely look
forward to more and stronger partnerships with you.

Secret Santa is a Western Christmas tradition in
which members of a group or community are
randomly assigned a person to whom they give a
gift. The identity of the gift giver is a secret not to
be revealed.
The school’s Christmas party will be on December 14,
2017. As part of the tradition, the students usually
have a Secret Santa. However, participating in such
activity is not a requirement. Please indicate in the
reply slip if you would like your child to be part of
the exchange gift or not. If ever your child will
participate, the following are the maximum amounts
of the gifts to be given in particular levels:
Pre-School- Grade 2 Php200.00
Grade 3- SHS Php300.00
With the theme “WE READ (Read, Express, and
Act to Demonstrate GRIT and Growth Mindset) TO KNOW

With children being handed homework as early as preschool, it’s
important to start thinking about study habits at a young age. Don’t wait
for a bad test grade to take action. The Long Test is just around the
corner. The students will take their Long Tests on December 5-7. With that,
here are some tips to support your child in taking tests at any age:
1. Encourage Consistency. Homework and studying should be a
regular activity, so that preparing for a test is never a last-minute
cram session. Test taking is a skill, which means it requires practice.
2. Establish Healthy Study Habits. Children also need a quiet,
organized space for studying. That can be a desk or even a spot
at the dining-room table, which you can help set up by
sharpening pencils and putting them in a cup or providing other
supplies. Organization is essential, and it’s a skill that they will take
with them as they grow.
3. Communicate with the Teacher. If you are stuck on how to help
your child study for a particular subject, don’t hesitate to contact
the teacher. Ask the teachers who work with your child what is
the best way to help. They spend a great deal of time with each
student and will have ideas.
4. Personalize Study Tactics. As you determine how the teacher
assesses her students, keep in mind that your child has different
strengths, even within test taking. “Some kids have a hard time
with essay questions. Some have a hard time with multiple
choice,” Simpkins says. Talk to the teacher to help recognize your
child’s pitfalls, and review past tests to determine areas that need
support.
5. Focus on Confidence. Never underestimate the power of
confidence, which is the ultimate goal above a good test score.
You want your child to walk into school confident every day,
Sinovoi says. Be the supportive voice, offering encouragement as
they work on their homework and tests. Make yourself available
to field questions. You can also instill confidence by giving them
space and time to do their work, showing them that their study
time is important and they have a say in it.
A big reason students experience test anxiety is fear of the unknown.
But if you emphasize how well your child knows the concepts to be
covered on the test, he or she will feel more ready.
