CARE - MAINTENANCE & ICONS

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

1. Use non-rubber protective mats in front of any doors leading outside. This helps reduce the amount of sand and grit getting on to your floors. Gritty sand is the worst enemy of any floor covering.

2. Install proper floor protectors (felt preferred) on all furniture legs used on resilient flooring. Protectors will allow chairs to move easily over the floor without scuffing or scratching. Clean protectors on a regular basis to remove any grit that may have become embedded on the bottom of the furniture leg. For any swiveling type of office chairs and other rolling furniture, please install non-staining flat casters. Do not use rubber casters.

3. To keep your floor looking its best, use an anti-static mop or vacuum your floor at least twice a week. Do it more often on floors with heavy traffic. Do not use a household dust cleaning agent of any kind as this may cause the floor to become slick or damage the finish. Simply sweep the floor as often as needed.

4. Do not allow pets with unclipped nails to damage your floor. It may result in severe scratching to the surface. The same is true for any high-heeled shoes that do not have proper tips on the heels.

5. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. During peak sunlight hours, use drapes or blinds to minimize the direct sunlight on the floor. Most types of flooring will be affected by continuous strong sunlight. To avoid an uneven appearance, please consider relocating any area rugs from time to time.

6. Excessive temperatures are not good for resilient floors. Some natural ventilation or intermittent air conditioning in vacant homes should be considered. Long term continuous inside temperatures over 35ºC combined with strong direct sunlight will damage your floor and cause the installation to fail.

REGULAR MAINTENANCE

1. Regular household dirt can be cleaned with cleaning products specified by your local Harvey Norman Franchise, applied as indicated on the product’s label. Some hand wiping may be required to remove tough spots and spills. Always sweep or vacuum your floor before cleaning so that all loose dirt and particles are removed.

2. Food spills should be cleaned up as rapidly as possible. Make sure any cleaning products you choose are non-abrasive. We do not recommend powdered cleaners, oil soaps, dishwashing and detergents; use a non-rising, biodegradable cleaner that leaves no residue or haze and requires no rinsing after application.

3. Shoe marks and scuffs can be easily removed using a spot application of your non-abrasive cleaner and a green Scotch Brite pad.

4. Do not wax your floor. Speak to your local Harvey Norman Flooring franchise for any additional maintenance products.

HELPFUL TIPS

1. To avoid diminishing the appeal of your floor from driveway particles or parking lots, always use doormats at entranceways.

2. It’s a good idea to use a hard surface floor attachment when vacuuming your floor.

3. Extra-deep heel marks, caster marks etc. Rub with green Scotch Brite pad dampened with non-abrasive cleaner.

4. Do not pour water directly onto the floor.

SURFACE• High GlossHarvey Norman high gloss products use liquid overlay which actually impregnates into the board, ensuring the high-gloss remains for many years to come.

• Embossed In Register (EIR) This is a process whereby the timber grain in the laminate is embossed to create a very realistic finish.

ABRASION• AC ratingAC is a rating system that measures Abrasive Resistance and determines if a floor can cope with high traffic such as retail or is limited to residential purposes. Most floors tend to be AC3 or AC4, however the high-end floors which can be utilised for commercial purposes are AC5.

INSTALLATION

• Angle-angle LockThis style of flooring installation is very common for “floating” floors. It allows the floor to be installed without glue or nails. The term angle-angle lock comes from the fact that the plank needs to be tilted at an angle to lock in the previous plank.
