High Water Levels Bring Increased Risks

The Toronto and Region Conservation monitors

hazardous ice conditions as thaw begins and are

reminding everyone to be very careful around all bodies of

water. The first hint of warming weather and the promise

of spring thaw can bring extreme danger to the shores and

surfaces of streams, rivers, ponds and lakes, according to

Toronto and Region Conservation.

As warmer temperatures arrive, stream banks become

increasingly slippery and unstable. Lake and river ice

weakens, becoming thinner or with higher flows breaking

with little or no warning. During this time, the potential

for flooding and ice jamming is high.

Higher, faster-flowing water and extreme cold

temperatures combine to create increased dangers on or

near rivers, streams and ponds for people wishing to enjoy

the seasonal changes. Parents and caregivers are being

asked to keep children away from stream banks, ponds

and lakes.

Basketball @ LPCS

I am so happy to announce that the Lambton Park Flames Jr. Basketball team played their hearts out in a close semi-

final tournament. Away from home at Humber Valley our students brought their “A” game while competing in 4 long and

fast-passed games. We ended the season 2nd in the semi-finals and I could not be more proud. The teamwork and

positive attitudes that each student brought to the court was both exciting to watch and inspiring to be apart of. I am so

proud of every student who participated in the 2018 Jr Basketball program. GO LAMBTON !!! - Coach Fallis

Can Tab Collection

Our can tab collection has been growing more and more since November last year! It all started with one

really impressive persuasive speech by Joseph Althoff. One day our teacher Ms. Markandonis gave us an

assignment to make a persuasive speech of our choice.

Joseph taught us the use of can tabs and this was just a small project and now we will estimate we have

over 3,500 can tabs. Joseph just started with a gatorade bottle it was such a persuasive speech that now we

got like 3k since November so 3 months!! Now our goal is 5k for this year but if we beat that goal it could

be higher. This can help the people with disabilities because can tabs can melt it down then turn them into

canes, wheelchairs and other things to help people in needs.

Can tabs are clean and easy to collect because they are smaller than pop cans and take less room to keep.

It is also part of recycling. So it’s an absolutely wonderful way to help to maintain the healthy

environment. Collecting pop can tabs are so easy and fun to collect because pop is so popular, and when

you have a pop at school (although it’s better to drink water) give it to Ms. Morrone you can get three

dojo points. (Yay!!!) You can get pop can tabs not just from pop cans but also juice cans that have the

tabs, or anything with a tab.

So, Lambton Park families, please bring in more can tabs to Lambton Park to help the environment and

elders and people in needs!!!!

Victoria from Ms. Morrone’s class is proud to donate two gallons of can tabs. WOW!!!
