MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH

CELEBRATING THE SHEPHERD

Greetings in the matchless name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

There is a sacred relationship between a pastor and people. In a writing about the Pastor’s Anniversary, Dr. Forest Elliott Harris, Sr., President of American Baptist College, in Nashville, TN, notes: “The most incomplete record to date is the unrecorded testimony of many unsung shepherds of black churches whose sacrifice and courage, pastoral care to wounded people, and preaching defiance of injustice gave hope to black people so that they could trust God for their future.”

meaning to meaningless matters and the challenges of life, while trying to make sense out of senseless tragedies. As long as there are hurting people and people hurting other people, the pastor’s work is undone. As bad news continues to spread all over the world, pastors respond to the call and charge to proclaim the Good News of Christ Jesus.

The occasion of the Pastor’s Anniversary is an opportune time to foster connectedness and cohesion in the church. The celebration goes beyond the honor of the senior servant and family, it honors the mission and vision of the congregation where the pastor serves.

For the past three years, it has been an honor and privilege to serve the faithful here at The Lamb. The symbiotic connection between leadership and laity has blessed many and been a blessing to me personally. As we take a brief pause to mark this milestone and reflect on what God has done, let us lead with inspired service and intentional sacrifice as we encourage all to embrace their calling in God.

In Christian Service,

Rev. Christopher R. Boston, Pastor

Unisonous Scripture Reading This is My Body and Blood for You — Matthew 26:26-30 (1st Sunday)26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Feeding the Five Thousand — Mark 6:30-34 (2nd Sunday)30 Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught. 31 And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. 32 So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.33 But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him. 34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things.

Blessed Unity of the People of God — Isaiah 55:6-11 (3rd Sunday)6 Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, But water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Offeratory LitanyMinister: The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.Congregation: Honor the Lord with wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops… Minister: “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, In what way have we robbed You? In tithes and offerings.Congregation: “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house. And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “ If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.Minister: Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and run-ning over, will be put into your bosom. All: For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. For God loves a cheerful giver.

Did You Know?...Staying spiritually fit can be practiced in just 30 minutes

Try this routine for a week and see how it fits with your lifestyle...

1. Reading a few scriptures 15 minutes in the morning can help prepare for unexpected attacks on your faith. God’s word ensures that “no weapon formed against you shall prosper”!

2. Lift your mood by singing praises to God. Take 5 minutes to sing your favorite hymn on your way into work. Start your day energized with a fresh praise.

3. Find 5 minutes over lunch to pray and meditate for peace and tranquility. The bible says “be still and know that I am God”.

4. Finish your day with 5 minutes of praise and be blessed in abundance!

Stick A In It

Reflections from Pastor Boston’s sermon delivered 2-22-15

“The Shepherd and His Sheep”John 10:22-30

Christ reveals to us another facet of his character as “The Good Shepherd.” In so doing, he reveals three characteristics in the connection between the Shepherd and His sheep.

1. Relationship (v27a) Jesus calls all those who follow Him, “My sheep.” As we acknowledge His power of Lordship over all, we experience the blessedness of relationship.

2. Recognition (v27b) When one has relationship, recognition is possible. Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice.” Once we hear Him, a stranger’s voice will not satisfy us and speak to the soul.

3. Reward (v28) Notice the progression: Relationship, Recognition, then the Reward. Oft times, we want the reward without the relationship. Once we have relationship and follow His voice, He promises us an eternal reward.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me,bless His holy name!

Sunday: Love Lifted Me (2nd Sunday)I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore, Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more, But the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry, From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.

(Chorus)Love lifted me! Love lifted me!When nothing else could help, Love lifted me!

All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I’ll clingIn His blessèd presence live, ever His praises sing, Love so mighty and so true, merits my soul’s best songs, Faithful, loving service too, to Him belongs.(Repeat Chorus)

Souls in danger look above, Jesus completely saves, He will lift you by His love, out of the angry waves. He’s the Master of the sea, billows His will obey, He your Savior wants you to be, be saved today.(Repeat Chorus)

Parents build foundations of life, and are the number one sources affecting the way children identify a healthy life-style. Children innately realize that parents are their role models throughout their lives. Living a life fruitful in both faith and fitness is an immense responsibility for parents as little ones often mirror adult behaviors whether good or bad.

Parents who eat healthily, say grace, and exercise with their children on a regular basis are teaching them many valuable life lessons. Statistics show that children who exercise do better academically and having a faith foundation also helps with decision making.

Parents should remember to be diliberate about working fitness into family bonding experiences. Make time to share a family walk after dinner, play a game of hide & seek, or simply enjoy a game of twister!

Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, Angels and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church – in knowledge and holiness; to give it a place of comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain it’s worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress, to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior, to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage, that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the Spirit of this covenant and the principle of God’s word.

And now unto Him, who brought again from the dead, our Lord Jesus, be Power and Glory forever.

“One Lord, One Faith and One Baptism,” AMEN. (Eph. 4:5)

MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH

–Jeremiah 3:15C e l e b r a t i n g t h e S h e p h e r dPastor and First Lady Boston are servants of God who are admired both in the church and the community. As a couple wearing multiple hats that require different leadership skills, they work

daily to balance getting dinner on the table, full-time jobs, ministry responsibilities and their bubbly twin boys, Terak and Caius. We often hear them admit that they couldn’t do it all without the help of family.

Our Pastor and First Lady work to create an environment that is conducive to nourishing a real relationship with God. Prayer, patience, and preparation are key to balancing the call that God has placed over them. Pastor often teaches about living by faith and growing by grace. He is extremely adept at teaching us to examine the gaps in the community, then challenging us to use our resources creatively to make an impact. Pastor Boston is a leader with a modern spirit who is rooted in a traditional foundation, allowing him to be innovative in advancing the Kingdom of God, while bridging generational gaps within the church.

As this month begins, we are in full swing celebrating their leadership at The Lamb over the past three years. We congratulate and express loving wishes to Pastor Boston and our first family: Lady Tonnie Boston, Terak, and Caius. (Visit

TheLambMKE.org for a Spotlight video on their leadership journey.)
