    Preliminaries

    Within a state o great bliss, I am a guru-yidam.From my body, arisen clearly in this state,A prousion o light-rays radiates to the ten directions,Highlighting the glory o the environment and the beings therein.All become perectly arrayed with only excellent qualities, innitely pure.

    Out o a lustrously positive, vast state o mind,I and all beings, my mothers, throughout space,From now till enlightenment, take sae directionFrom the gurus and the Three Supreme Gems.

    Namo gurubhyaNamo buddhaya,Namo dharmaya,Namo sanghaya. (3x)

    For the sake o a ll beings, my mothers,I transorm into a guru-yidam,And thus shall secure all limited beingsIn a guru-yidams supreme state. (3x)

    For the sake o a ll beings, my mothers,I shall quickly, quickly, in this very lie,Attain the high stateO a primordial Buddha-guru-yidam.

    I shall liberate all beings, my mothers, rom sueringAnd secure them in the stage o a Buddhas great bliss.To this end, I now shall practiceThe proound path o guru-yidam yoga.

    Pure clouds o outer, inner, and hidden oerings,Fearsome items and objects to bond us closelySpread out beyond the range o thought,Pervading the reaches o space, the earth, and the sky.In essence, they are deep awareness,In aspect, inner oerings and oering items;The unction o each, as objects enjoyed by the six sensors,Is to enhance a special deep awareness o bliss and voidness.

    In the vast heavens o inseparable bliss and voidness,Amidst billowing clouds o Samantabhadra oerings,At the crest o a wish-granting tree,Embellished with leaves, fowers, and ruit,Is a lion-throne, ablaze with precious gems,With cushions o lotus, sun, and ull moon.

    Upon them, sits my root guru, kind in three ways,In essence, all Buddhas,In aspect, a saron-robed monk,With one ace, two arms, and a radiant white smile.Your right hand is in the gesture o expounding the Dharma,Your let in meditation pose cradles an alms bowl brimming with nectar.You are draped with three robes o lustrous saronAnd your head is graced by a pandits gold-colored hat.

    In your heart sits a Vajradhara, ruler o the all-pervasive,With a blue-colored body, one ace, and two arms,

    Holding vajra and bell, and embracing Vajradhatu Ishvari:They delight in the play o co-arising bliss and voidness,Are adorned with jewel ornaments o many designs,And arrayed with garments o heavenly silk.

    Emblazoned with the signs and exemplary eatures o a Buddha,You yoursel are radiant with thousands o light-rays,Sitting in the vajra-position, enhaloed by a ve-colored rainbow.Totally pure, your aggregate actors are the ve Blissully Progressed;Your our elements are the our mothers;The stimulators o your senses, your channels, sinews, and jointsAre actual examples o the bodhisattvas.

    The hairs o your pores are the twenty-one thousand arhats;Your limbs, the urious powerul ones;Your light-rays are directional protectors,

    and yaksha and guhyaka guardians o wealth;While worldly gods could be cushions or your eet.

    Surrounding you in successive ringsIs an encircling sea o my actual and lineage gurus,Yidams with hosts o mandala gures,Buddhas, bodhisattvas, viras, dakinis,And protectors o the teachings.

    Exterminate untimely death,Diseases, demons, and obstructing ghosts.Make nightmares, ill omens, and disastersAll become extinct.

    May worldly happiness, crops, and harvests abound;May the Dharma thrive; all goodness and joy come about;And every wish in our minds be ull led.

    With deep awareness o all the innite Triumphant,You impart, with supreme skillul means, whatever will tame,As portrayers o a dance o those clad in saron.

    Your states o all aults and their habits extracted,And your treasures o athomless jewel-like qualitiesAre the sole gateways to benet and bliss, baring none.Ennobling, impeccable gurus, we prostrate at your eet.

    Music rom an endless variety o instrumentsBlends into a symphony and lls the three realms.

    Goddesses o outer and inner desirable objects,Holding symbols o sights and sounds,Fragrances, tastes, and physical sensationsPervade all directions.

    Though your vajra-bodies are subject to neither birth nor death,

    or all our lives,And thus always nding the supreme path in whichAll the stages o the teachings are complete,May we please the Triumphant Ones with our practice.

    (3) With the points o the path as we have understood them,And with ski llul means drawn rom strong aectionate care,May we clear the darkness rom wanderers minds,

    So that the Triumphant Ones teachings are enduringly held.

    (4) With our hearts going out with great compassionIn whatever direction the precious-most teachingsHave not yet spread, or once spread have declined,May we reveal this treasure o happiness and aid.

    (5) Through these very stages o the path to enlightenment,Which have arisen so well through the wondrous infuence

    o the Triumphant and their spiritual ospring,May we direct to glory the minds o those who wish liberationAnd enduringly urther the Triumphant Ones deeds.

    (6) With the help o all human and nonhuman beingsWho make things conducive and eliminate adversity

    or practicing the excellent path,May we never be parted, in all o our lietimes,From the purest path the Triumphant Ones praise.

    (7) Whenever we strive to properly practiceThe ten Dharma actions to support Mahayana,May mighty ones always assist as companionsAnd oceans o propitiousness spread everywhere.

    Special Requests

    You are our gurus; you are our yidams;You are our dakinis and Dharma-protectors.From this moment, till our enlightenment,We shall seek sae direction rom none other than you.In this lie, the bardo, till the end o all rebirths,Hook us ast with your compassion.

    Free us rom the ears o samsara and complacent nirvana;Direct us to all actual attainments;Be our constant companions;And guard against all intererence.(3x)

    By the orce o having thus been requested three times,From the centers o our gurus body, speech, and mind,White, red, and dark blue nectars and raysStream orth one by one and then all together.They dissolve into our own three centers,One by one, and then all together.Thereby, we are purged o our our obstructions,

    Receive the our totally pure empowerments,And attain the Four Buddha-Bodies.By a replica guru happily dissolving into us,We become uplited and inspired.

    The Stages of the Path

    By the orce o having made oeringsAnd having respectully made you requests,O hallowed, ennobling, impeccable gurus,Best elds or growing a positive orce,

    Inspire us to joyully ollow under your care,O guardians and roots o bliss and well-being.

    Inspire us to realize that this lie o respites and enrichmentsIs ound but once, is dicult to obtain, and is easily lost,And thus, undistracted by meaningless aairs o this lie,To partake o its essence and make it worthwhile.

    Inspire us to become aghast at the searing blaze osuering in the worse realms,

    And thus, rom the depths o our hearts,to take sae direction rom the Three Supreme Gems,

    Readily to strive to avoid any negative behavior,And to strengthen our networks o positive actions in numerous ways.

    We pass on to pure lands, either by the orceul meansO transerence into the guru ull stateOr through the instructions or properly applying the ve orces.

    In short, inspire us, O guardians, to ollow inseparablyUnder your care in all our lives, rom one to the next,And thus, to become chies among your spiritual ospring,Holding every hidden eature o your body, speech, and mind.

    O guardians, wherever you maniest Buddhahood,Please make everything propitious or us to comeAmong the very rst o your circle,Thus, spontaneously ullling, without any eort,All our provisional and ultimate wishes and needs.

    Having made you requests like these,

    Supreme gurus, we urther entreat you:To bring inspiration, happily alight on the crowns o our headsAnd settle once more with the radiant nails on your eetAt the corollas o our lotus-hearts.

    We dedicate the lustrous constructive steps, taken in this way,As causes or ullling, without an exception,The deeds and prayers o all Blissully Progressed

    and their spiritual ospring, throughout the three times,

    And or upholding the hallowed Dharma o the scripturesand their realization.

    We may transorm whatever appearances arise be they good or bad Into paths augmenting the two bodhichittasAnd thus, attune ourselves solely to comort o mind.

    Inspire us that, by the skillul means o the our acts o use,We may adapt to meditation whatever we occasion to meet,And may put into practice the close bonds and

    trainings o cleansing our attitudes,Thus rendering this lie o respites and enrichments worthwhile.

    Inspire us that, through love and compassionConjoined with the wondrous method o mounting giving

    and taking upon the breath,And through an exceptional wish,We may become bodhichitta adepts to rescue beingsFloundering in the monstrous ocean o recurring existence.

    (6) Even i someone whom we have helpedAnd rom whom we harbor great expectationsWere to harm us completely unairly,May we view him or her as a hallowed teacher.

    (7) In short, may we oer to all our mothers,

    both actually and indirectly,Whatever will benet and bring them joy;And may we hiddenly accept on ourselvesAll our mothers troubles and woes.

    (8) Through a mind untarnished by stains rom thoughtsAbout these eight transitory things in lie,And that knows all phenomena as an illusion,May we set ourselves ree rom all our clingingAnd thus release ourselves rom our bondage at last.

    Inspire us to tame our mind-streams with pure bodhisattva vows,The single path j ourneyed by all the Triumphant o the three timesAnd to exert ourselves readily in the pract iceO the three Mahayana ethical disciplines.

    Inspire us to perect ar-reaching generosityThrough the guideline instructions or enhancingThe mind that gives reely, without attachment,Namely transorming our bodies, wealth, and the networks

    o our constructive actions o the three timesInto the objects desired by each limited being.

    Inspire us to perect ar-reaching joyous perseveranceThat even i, or the sake o each limited being, we must remainFor an ocean o eons in the res o an Uninterrupted Hell,With compassion, we remain undiscouraged,And strive ever onward or supreme enlightenment.

    Inspire us to perect ar-reaching constancy o mind Through absorbed concentration rid o the aults o

    dullness, fightiness, and mental wandering,And totally absorbed, single-pointedly,On the abiding nature o all things Their total absence o true existence.

    Inspire us to perect ar-reaching discriminating awarenessThrough the yoga on space-like voidness,Which is total absorption on the deepest act,Conjoined with great bliss rom a sense o tnessInduced by discriminating awareness investigating

    the particulars o suchness.

    Inspire us to perect absorbed concentration on illusion-like voidness,By realizing how all outer and inner phenomenaLack true existence, yet still appearLike illusions, dreams, or the moons image in a clear lake.

    Recurring existence and beyond lack even an atom o inherent nature,While cause and eect and dependent arising are never wrong.Inspire us that these two points dawn, not in contradiction,

    but in total agreement,And thus, that we realize the import o Nagarjunas thought.
