The purpose of this survey was to obtain information co:..1.cern .. ing existing wells and the quantity and quality of vrater they yield, and to put down test holes where additional information was needed.

This project was part 0-f a statewide Works Progress Adr.1inintration project lmovvn as a "Ste:tewide LYJ.ventory of Water Wells, n

sponsored b:r the State Board of We:ter Engineers. The Division of Ground Water of the u. s. Geological Survey cooperated in the technical direction of the project and the Bureau of Industrial Cheraistr�r of The University of Texas furnished laboratory space and equipment and supervised the chemical analyses.

The analyses were made by chemists employed on Works Progress Administration Project 6507-5112 at Austin, Texas, sponsored by the State :Uoard of Water Engineers. This release vras typed and assembled by typists ru1d draftsmen employed on this project.

The field work in L�nb County vras started on :i?ebruary l, 1937, and oomple·l:;ed on June 10, 1937. This work was done as Project 2070 of District 17 of the Works Pror;ross Administre:tion, Luhbool:, Texas. W •L• ;£roc.d::.ur�t, e.. gooJ ogi:;;-!J, was project superintendent. This release contains the well records and well logs oi)tained by the projec·IJ superintendent, logs of the test holes drilled by theW. P. A. labor, and the chenical analyses of water from privately oYmed wells • . Locc-,tions of all wells listed are shown on the map in the back of the release.

The test wells were .drilled !_,y w. P .• A. labor using ,a soil auger, drop auger, churn dr:ill, and a sand bucket. Sam.ples were collected at one foot intervals by the.· Jrell dr:i)J.er in charge of the part:r• Tho project superintendent· ::rbudied these samples and compiled the logs .
