2. Principal’s Report – presented by Rebecca Shields 2.1 2015 – 2016 Board strategic plan for next 4 yrs. (presented with charts)

Mission is to align goals with boards, students and teachers

Has been working on school learning plan with staff o Realizing that children in our school are reading in French ½ yr. or more behind where they should be –

therefore plan to work on balanced literacy strategies (good balance between reading and writing)

Based on this finding, the School Learning Plan will focus on supporting this literacy strategy that will follow the following steps: STEP I - Shared reading – Teacher sits down with children in class and shares a story with them. Works on focused ideas of what they would like to do with the book – phraseology, vocabulary, asking questions, predictions, read a 2nd time with words covered for recall/synonyms. Agenda Item #:

STEP 4 - Independent reading – at their own at level.

Complimentary work: Implementing ‘school-wide’ SOL time – “Silence, on lit”; Parent engagement piece - reading will come home to practice comprehension

This will be a 3 week intensive learning plan. Starts Feb. 22 until March break

Data collection ‘pre-program’ is underway. Then application of the strategies and then data collection to see how students have improved. Expectation is that all students will benefit – those that are struggling should progress, and those tracking well will be reinforced and will progress further

Parent Q – “Can we see the data?”; Answer – After staff review the results, the info can be shared with parents. 2.2 Technology Plan (hand out provided – see end)

Handout outlines what we’ve done, where we are going and where the school needs Council’s help

Projectors and microphones have been bought – all classes have them now (to be installed in March, cabling and installation already covered)

Still need to catalogue all devices in classes and what’s sitting around; once this is done, all equipment will be distributed equitably to classrooms

Part A and B of outline are done; Part C, D and E are left to do; School Council support needed for Part C

Options for Council support: - Purchasing Tech tubs – bins to hold the devices and chargers, secure locking mechanism at a cost of 170$

each (need 15) - Purchase iPad chargers –need 5 replacement chargers

Once the above is completed, anticipated working with Board’s tech coach (April to June) to support teachers in using/incorporating technology into lessons, or improving skills

Council decided to delay a decision on supporting this plan; looking for targeted fundraising activities that could be done to support this (e.g. Swag campaign and E-waste event – March-April 2016)

*Rick C. to look into how many iPad chargers he could find* 2.3 Library Enhancement Plan (hand out provided – see end)

Looking for extra soft seating and magazines for the library (seating, chairs, benches, an area carpet, new magazine subscriptions) to make the library more inviting and support the SLP reading program

Options proposed: 4 bean bag chairs, a bench with bottom storage, an area carpet, cushions

Parent Q – “Does school need more that what’s proposed?” Answer – Starting point – can re-evaluate in future.

Council agreed to proceed with a motion to support the Library Enhancement Plan MOTION: Melissa L SECONDED: Alexandre S.

“Move to support the library enhancement plan for purchases as proposed in the tabled document in the amount of $2,408.26 ” ALL IN FAVOR MOTION CARRIED

Agenda Item #:

4.10 Looking for anyone who can look at and possibly repair the school’s laminating machine.

5. OCAS Update – presented by Tracy N.

5.1 Looking for another Lakeview OCASC rep (commitment is 1 meeting on 3rd Thursday of each month at Fisher Park School) 5.2 Last meeting OCASC invited experts to discuss managing and mitigating risks/Board liability insurance for Councils. Learned that the riskiest activities are cycling and skiing - never get covered because too risky and the #1 source of claims are from bouncy castles because of parents tripping on the cord around structures. 5.3 Upcoming meetings - Changes to French instruction in the Early French Immersion Program as voted by the Board of Trustees

6. Treasurer Report – presented by Alexandra W.

Council should decide on the cash balance to retain at the end of year – Principal and Board do not want to see high balances which means children are not benefitting from the money raised during the school year

Suggestion - To allocate pre-approved amounts for ‘consistent’ or regular requests instead of voting on each of them (TACE, arts/science, bus transportation, etc.) which produces more paperwork

Suggestion from Mme Shields – showing “The proceeds from _____ go to________”

Budget is healthy

7. Fundraising Update – presented by Sneh M 7.1 Lakeview Family Movie Night – next one planned for April 1 (April Fool’s Day) – planning to begin soon. 7.2 School Logo Swag Campaign

New logo (mascot) and colours (white and blue clothing options) – long sleeve shirts, tees and hoodies

Need to include fundraising goal to parent letter (i.e.: “the proceeds raised will go to…”) – suggestion to direct funds to the Technology Plan – all in agreement

7.3 Electronic Waste Recycling Event (E-Waste)

Run by the Ontario Electronic Stewardship – community wide – weighs it and we get a percentage

Raised $790 in 2014 (half proceeds were shared with ORCC – total raised was $1500approx)

Considering running parallel to April 1st Movie night - encourage families to bring E-waste at Movie Night and/or the following Saturday April 2nd

Look at ways to engage Club Vert to support it - in line with Stewardship principles of Strategic Plan

8. Adjournment - Meeting was adjourned by Melissa at 8:35 pm.
