Old Club Adopts New Blood
Looking toward the uture, the ofcers and
directors o the Association o Louisiana Bass
Clubs have unanimously approved adding a
Junior Division to its ranks.
For the largest, non-proessional bass fshing
group in Louisiana, the addition o this new
division will provide the 43-year-old organization
an inusion o new blood. Participants will
consist o young anglers 14-18 years o age and
they must be enrolled in high school to join.We are very excited about the addition o a
junior division, ALBC president Dan Touchet
said. It is a win-win situation or not only the
association but or all o the kids as well. We are
just starting to get the word out around the state
but all the eedback has been very, very positive.
It is ull steam ahead with everybody.
While the idea may still be in its inancy, it
has already picked up one very big supporter in
Republican
State Sen. Gerald Long (Winnfeld). Long isnoted to be a strong backer o the outdoors and
outdoor-related projects.
The sport, which is presently only oered as a
club sport in most state high schools, is presently
not sanctioned by the Louisiana High School
Athletic Association.
The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership
with FLW Outdoors, does oer a Student Angler
Federation, and numerous colleges now eature
fshing teams and scholarships to go along with
the competition, but only three states Illinois,
Kentucky and South Carolina oer fshing as
a sanctioned high school sport. It is a situation
Touchet said he hopes will soon change, and he
believes this frst step by the ALBC will help aid
eorts to make it a high school sport.
He (Long) plans on introducing legislationthis year to make bass fshing a high school
sport, said Touchet, which would be a defnite
boost to our eorts to attract teams and younger
fshermen into the association.
The ALBC already has had two high school
clubs that have joined with more than a two
dozen more looking at joining. There are
a number o schools, especially in Central
Louisiana, that eature high school bass clubs.
It is that group Touchet and the ALBC is
targeting. We have put together a specifc set o
guidelines in order or a team to join the ALBC,
Touchet said.
The guidelines are as ollows: High School teams are to be made up from
the local high school the team attends.
Teams are not to be made up o members
rom dierent high schools. All high school team members must belong
to the Association o La Bass Clubs (ALBC).
There will be a $10 membership ee to join
the ALBC.
All high school teams may set their own
rules and set their own dates or their club
tournaments.
All high school teams must have a sponsor.
It can be a volunteer, teacher and/or a localbass club.
When the high school teams participate in
an ALBC sponsored tournament, the junior
members must be accompanied by an adult
and that adult must be the boat motor
operator, must show proo o insurance on
the boat being used. The junior members
should be the operator o the trolling motor
while fshing.
Junior members may also help sell rafe
tickets and receive 1/3 refund of rafetickets sold to be used by their team or club.
All junior members must abide by all State
and National laws.
As an enticement to the high school teams,
the ALBC will conduct a District Junior Division
tournament in the six districts o the ALBC.
Each high school junior division team in
each district will be eligible to participate. The
winning team rom each district will be invited
to attend the ALBC Best Six Tournament [on
Toledo Bend during the frst weekend in May]
to participate in the Junior Division State Team
Tournament. This will be a one day tournament
event or the junior division.
Plaques and trophies will be awarded to
the winners and one high school team will be
crowned as the BEST in the state by the ALBC.So many kids in this age group already
spend a great deal o time fshing anyway, said
Touchet, especially around this central part o
the state.
I recently went to a high school tournament
in Jonesville, which eatured 9 or 10 teams rom
as ar away as Vidalia and Ferriday. So, you see,
there are plenty o teams already ormed and
competing.
Our high school teams are growing in record
numbers, Touchet said, and the ALBC notonly wants to help and nurture that growth, but
also to give them a goal a state high school
championship
in which they can work towards.
For more inormation about the new Junior
Division, call either Greg Lewis (318) 729-0713
or Touchet (337) 258-7961.

When It All Comes Together....Priceless!!!
B Jh Watts
All o us have read articles in bass magazines
about strategy or fnding fsh or winning in
tournaments. Most o us have tried to duplicate
the advice rom the magazines but most o the
time it just doesnt seem to go as printed. When
it all comes together you just cant help thinking
how good you were when it works just the way
you pictured.
Don & Mona Manning have been fshing
C.A.S.T. or years. Their ability to catch fsh hasnever kept them out o the winners circle. Don
& Mona have all the knowledge and experience
needed to win. Saturday, February 23rd on
Toledo Bend was the perect opportunity to show
their skill as anglers. Ater catching an early
limit o bass, then culling several times, but only
by ounces on the balance beam; the Mannings
decided to go or the win. Moving to deep waterpoints, throwing Carolina rigged ukes, Mona
hooked into the kicker fsh they needed!
Carrying the Big Bass to the scales weighing 6.88pounds, plus their other our fsh, brought their
total to 19.16 pounds and provided 1st Place
plus Big Bass or both o them. Mona has caught
bigger fsh at Falcon but this time was special
as her and Don made the right decisions, at the
right times, while executing their skill as anglers
to perection. It all came together... Priceless!!!
Tournament weather on Toledo Bend was
great on Saturday, with cool temperatures inthe morning warming to almost 70 degrees in
the aternoon and light wind, allowed C.A.S.T.
couples to fsh almost anywhere on the lake they
wished.Larry & Joyce Coleman chose to sh the ats
and islands at the mouth o Patroon Creek.
Their choice proved to be a good one. Bringing
fve fsh to weigh-in totaling 14.35 pounds.
Their fsh were all at and looked like they were
ready to engage in some spawning activity.
Larry & Joyce are no strangers to winning, their
2nd Place plaque will become part o a huge
collection o mementos captured over the years.
Congratulations!!
Not wanting to be out done in the decision
department, Don & Sandy Jeane also
fshed close to the launch point at Holly Park
Marina in Patroon Creek. Sandy Jeane is an
accomplished angler and semi-pro tournament
angler. Her resume o co-angler successes help
her and Don to ocus in on the best seasonal
patterns and water to place high in the standings
regularly. Working a variety o baits they caught
13.91 pounds to claim 3rd place, despite the
heavy boat trafc nearby! Great lob guys!
Making the right moves was not exclusive to
the top three couples or this tournament. Mark
& Eileen Leger fnished in 4th place with 13.77
pounds. Being consistent over the course o a
season defnitely means making the right moves.
Mark & Eileen moved themselves into a tie or
FIRST PLACE in the overall points standings and
one step closer to making the Southeast Regions
TOP SIX Invitational Team. Good Deal!
Taking 5th Place and a nice check were new
C.A.S.T. members, Rick & Debbie Barns. Their
eort on Saturday, added to the points scored last
month on Toledo Bend, making them the other
couple tied or FIRST PLACE in the regional
standings. A fne bit o angling by anyones
standards!
Don & Mona Manning made all o the right decisions at the right time and executedwell to win 1st place with a nice bag o fsh that weighed 19.16 lbs. Their sackincluded the Big Bass o the tournament, a nice 6.88 pounder that Mona caught.
Larry & Joyce Coleman who are not strangers to winning, came in 2nd with their sack that weighed 14.35 lbs.
Don & Sandy Jeane worked a variety
o baits to catch 13.91 pounds, thisbag earned them a 3rd place fnish.

streamlined body designed to give that side-to-side twitchingaction, but the tail is thicker and heavier so when you kill the
bait it sinks level and gives a little shimmy.
It will work great by itself weightless for twitching, but alsogive it a try on your Carolina Rig, or behind your
Chatterbaits or Scroungers. However you use thenew D-Shad you are sure to catch them!

Rayburn shows off at tournament Mansfield& Flowers win debut event with nearly 30 pounds
By Patty Lenderman Phts r this trat availabl at www.ThLaastr.
The Texas Team Trail debuted their 2013
season on Sam Rayburn March 2, 2013. Over
200 teams participated on this blustery cold
day. Fourteen teams brought in sacks exceeding
twenty pounds. Three o them were over the 25
pound mark. The winners almost hit 30 pounds
to win cash and prizes totaling over $28,000.
The morning started out at the reezing mark.
As the sun rose higher, so did the wind velocity.
The orecast stated it was to hit temperatures inthe 50s, but with the strong north winds straight
o o an iceburg, it elt as though it only grew
colder throughout the day. Equipment as well
as each anglers tenacity was put to the test. 225
boats headed out and Rayburn made it worth
their while showing o big bass, big sacks, then
huge paybacks at the Umphrey Family Pavilion
where the weigh in was stationed.
Initially, as the frst ew teams came to weigh
their catch, it appeared that the weather was too
daunting and had aected the catch ability othe bass. A growing audience gathered to watch
the procession o anglers coming in.
Jake and Jeremy Wedel were the frst to break
the 20 lb barrier with a sack weighing 25.98 lbs.
They also initiated the Big Bass race with their
7.29 lb kicker.
Several more teams weighed in, then Grover
Mansfeld and Brandon Flowers came in with
their catch. First they weighed their biggest. It
tipped the scales to 11.46 lbs. Adding their other
our, their total weight was just shy o thirty
pounds, locking in at 29.99.
Although there were a dozen more sacks
brought in over the 20 lb mark, none o them
came close to Mansfeld & Flowers 30 pound
sack.
The winners ocused their eorts on the
north end o the lake in a ditch that led into
a spawning pocket about 2-4 deep. We usedswim jigs, and we were just dragging them across
the top o the grass all day. We ound the fsh
in the barren area between the grass and the
shoreline. Brandon caught their 11.46 lb kicker
at 8:30. When he stuck the fsh, Brandon yelled
Hey man, Ive got a good one! We thought at
frst it was probably a six or seven pounder,
Grover recalled. Then it came out o the water
and we saw it. It was the biggest bass wed ever
seen! With Brandon at the reel and Grover at
the net, they got the big sow saely in the boat.We had a limit by noon. Once we had our fve,
we decided to go to another ditch. Their next
spot was 4 to 5 eet deep. We lost a fve pounder
on our second cast there. On the ourth cast
we hung an eight pounder! They exchanged
one just over a pound in their livewell or the
eight pounder, upgrading their fnal weight by
nearly seven pounds. At that point we knew we
had a good sack! Everything just went right or
us. We caught ten keepers, culled twice. Their
kicker held up or Big Bass, earning a check or
$1,125. They also participated in the optional
Angler Advantage side pot and earned a check or
$2,010. As 1st place winners o the tournament,
they were also awarded a Triton 18XS powered bya 150 Evinrude motor. Their total winnings or
the day in cash and prizes totaled $28,135.
Jake and Jeremy Wedels 25.98 lb sack held or
a 2nd place fnish. We tried to start out in a spot
we checked out during practice. We just couldnt
stay on it because o the wind. They hit another
spot they had fshed beore. It was a shallow
point 6 to 8 deep by a good spawning cove. We
were still out in the open. It was rough. By 7:45
they had a limit in the boat. They used Carolina
rigged green pumpkin Grande Bass Rattle Snakes
all day or their catch. They continued to cull
and upgrade their weight until 1pm. There was
a time or two we almost packed it in. We kept at
it until the trolling motor went dead. Their 2nd
place fnish paid o to the tune o $5,625.There were 34 places paid in the regular
payout. Gene and Luke Eisenmann caught the
last check in the regular payout o $562.50 or
their limit weighing 16.87 lbs.
Anglers also had the option o participating
in the Anglers Advantage. Each team that
participated in this side pot paid an additional
$100. The top 20 teams in that 100% payback
portion received additional checks.

Castledine wins Pro Division season opener forBassmaster Weekend Series on Rayburn
The Bassmaster Weekend Series kicked o their Division 10 on
Sam Rayburn March 9th at the Umphrey Family Pavilion. Ninety
two Boaters and seventy eight Co-anglers competed or checks,
points, and ultimately a chance or a berth in the Bassmaster
Classic.
The Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass
Anglers, oers stair step opportunities or its participants.
Ater our regular season tournaments, there will be a two day
Division championship. Top ranking anglers can then qualiy
or the Regional then National championship. The winner o the
National championship earns the berth to compete in the world
championship, the Bassmaster Classic. Albert Collins earned that
berth right in 2012 and competed in the Classic February 2013.
Who will it be this year? The Southeast Texas Division anglers are
o to a good start.
One o the unique aspects o this tournament trail is that
boaters are allowed fve fsh limits, while co-anglers are allowed
only three. Boaters are paired with co-anglers the day beore the
tournament, each only competing against those in their category.
Todd Castledine o Nacogdoches, TX was the frst and only
boater to breach the 20 pound mark with 23.22 pounds. His 8.57lb kicker also held or Big Bass. It was a day, as he describes,
that he just went fshin. The morning didnt start out well or
me at all. I decided to just go site fshing, just to get a limit.
Using a Kicker Fish swim bait proto type called Tail Slapper, he
managed a small limit. Something happened around noon. All
o a sudden the bigger ones just started biting! He was working
the inside grass line between the grass and the stick-ups. At 12:30
he hung his biggest fsh. I probably caught around 15 keepers, and culled all o my original limit. I had one last big one (7 or 8
pounds) try to eat my bait at the end o the day, but I didnt get a
hook in her. As it turns out he didnt need that last cull possibility,
winning the tournament in the boater division by well over three
pounds. Id like to thank Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior frst and
oremost. Id also like to thank Kicker Fish, Legend Boats, Mercury,
Hydrowave, Power Pole, Combat Lures and Canon LED Lights.
2nd place in the boater division was Bronk McDaniel o Pitkin,LA. He brought in a fve fsh limit weighing 19.85 lbs. I went way
north or my fsh, he began. It was a rough ride! Targeting
shallow, grassy coves in water 1 to 3 deep, he put a quick limit
together in about an hour. I only had just over 13 pounds with
Todd Castledine won the season opener in theboater division by more than three pounds. He also won Big Bass with his 8.57 lb kicker.
3rd placeboater divisionwas won byDarren Robertswith 17.81 lbs.
Daniel Pierce won the co-angler divisionwith his three fsh limit weighing 11.98 lbs.
High Schoolangler BenSouth took2nd place inthe co-anglerdivision with

that frst limit. Using chatter baits, buzz baits and rogs, among
other lures, he began culling one by one, upgrading his total
weight. A lot o the bass I caught were big and ull o eggs. I
just couldnt ditch that last small one I had. His best cull was to
exchange a six pounder or a two pounder. Id like to thank my
wie Morgan. She gives me a lot o encouragement and supports
my eorts. It really means a lot.
Darren Roberts, also o Nacogdoches, TX won 3rd place with
17.81 lbs. I started catching pretty quick! His frst fve fsh
weighed an estimated 10 pounds. At 8am, using a Texas rigged
lizard, he caught his biggest fsh o the day weighing 7.82 lbs. I
culled three times, could have been our. I had one about three
pounds that jumped back out o the net. I may have gained about
a pound with it, so I still would not have caught 2nd. Darren
would like to thank BassCat boats, Mercury, Bowden Marine and
Castaway rods.
The participants in the co-angler division were only allowedto weigh three fsh each. Daniel Pierce o LaPorte, TX had the
heaviest limit in his division weighing 11.98 lbs to take the win.
The day went extremely well. I fshed with a great boater, Bryan
McDonough. It was really windy, so we got up in drains and fshed
east banks. Throwing a rattle trap, he had a limit in the boat
weighing about seven pounds by 9am. I just kept working hard
at it. They were biting pretty slow, o the top o the grass. When
they nailed it, I had to get them up quick! He culled three times
beore the end o the day. His last cull was his biggest catch at 2:30,
reeling in a nice 5.75 lb kicker. Id like to thank my wie or being
so supportive and or putting up with me or 27 years!
Ben South, Senior at Jasper High School won 2nd place in the
co-angler division with 11.17 lbs. It was rough out there. We
took a long run to get to our spots. Fishing with boater Bronk
McDaniel, they concentrated eorts on areas with structure,
stumps, grass and bushes. My frst fsh was a 2 pounder. It
was great. Then my spinnerbait broke in hal on another solid
fsh, two or three pounds. I regained my eorts rom there, and
by 11am had three in the boat. Around noon he boated another
3 pounder and ater that he landed his biggest, 4.71 lbs. We
went to three spots and caught a lot o fsh. I also saw an alligator
and some bald eagles. It was in interesting ride back. We nearly
got beat to death! Id like to thank the Lord, my dad and all o myfshin buds. Id also like to thank Todd Faircloth. I have a lot o
respect or him.
3rd place in the co-angler division was won by Charles Shoner
Jr with 10.44 lbs. It was a good day we caught fsh all day long.
Fishing with boater Robert Newlan, they hit areas with shallow
grass and drains with lots o good hydrilla in 4-7 depths. Using
rattle traps, spinnerbaits and lizards, he had a very small three fsh
limit weighing about 5 pounds. We hit three spots, two o them
produced well. I culled all o my initial limit. One o his culls was
with the Big Bass in the co-angler division weighing in at 6.11 lbs.
I had a really good time AND made a good riend! Charles would
like to thank the Lord or being with him and his boater Robert
Newlan. All Bassmaster Weekend Series tournaments are open to anyone
who would like to participate. The next tournament will be on
Toledo Bend at Fin & Feather Resort on March 27, then back to
Sam Rayburn at the Umphrey Pavilion May 1st and May 29.

Tdd Drisll (Txas Pars ad Wildli Dpartt)
Tournament Statstcs at Sam Rayburn
Reservor, 2008 to 2012
Management o the largemouth bass fshery
at Sam Rayburn Reservoir is a high priority
o Texas Parks and Wildlie Department and
rightly so. Our angler surveys indicate that year
ater year, 70 to 80% o Sam Rayburn anglers
target largemouth bass. Thereore, we requently
monitor the largemouth bass population with
our traditional sampling methods (electrofshing
and angler creel surveys) to ensure our current
regulations and bass stockings are producing
the highest quality bass fshing possible. Over
nine years ago I started using tournament
results as a cost-eective way to increase the
amount o inormation to base management
decisions, especially inormation rom larger
bass (> 4 pounds).
Tournament results are obtained rom
organizations with data available via the
Internet. To prevent biased results rom small
tournaments, I only include those with greater
than 50 individuals or teams. Summarytournament variables include average bass
weight, average total weights o 1st to 3rd places,
percent o anglers with weights greater than
15 pounds, percent o anglers with limits, and
average big bass weight. Below, I report data
rom 2008 to 2012 survey years, and include a
table or reerence.
The numbers o both individual and team
tournaments with greater than 50 participants/
teams was relatively consistent over the last 5
years. The number o individual tournamentsranged rom 7 to 11 events, and team events
ranged rom 22 to 29. The total number o
bass weighed in rom these events is hard to
track, because some organizations only report
total weight caught and not the number o
fsh. However, to get an idea o how many total
tournament bass are caught, the intensive tagging
study we conducted in 2004 indicated that over
30,000 bass were weighed in by tournament
anglers in one year. No doubt, that is a lot o bass.
But, we also determined that the 30,000 bass onlycomprised 5% o the entire bass population at Sam
Rayburn. So, even though tournament anglers
catch and weigh a high number o bass, only a
small percent o bass are aected.
This tournament-monitoring program
enables us to track the catch o large bass over
time, which is really important to TPWD but
hard to obtain with traditional fsh sampling
methods. Total catch o bass greater than 8
pounds/year (big bass tournaments excluded)
was very consistent over the last 5 years and
ranged rom 31 to 44. Keep in mind this is not
the total number or all tournaments in one
year, but only what was caught by the larger
tournaments included in the monitoring
program. Also, numbers were actually higher
than reported each year, because not all fsh over
8 pounds are weighed individually and reported
in the results i much larger fsh are already
weighed or big bass.
As you would predict, during all fve surveys
years average total weights were higher or team
than individual tourneys. For team tourneys,
during all fve years it required 19.1 pounds or
more to place in the top three and on average ittook 22 to 25 pounds to win an event. Over all
survey years, overall catch rates o keeper bass
varied some. In 2008 and 2009, over hal o the
teams caught a limit and 15 to 18% caught total
weights exceeding 15 pounds. In 2011, these
values increased to the highest observed over the
nine years o the monitoring program, as 21%
o teams had limits over 15 pounds, and 60% o
the feld caught limits. In 2012, these numbers
declined some, as teams weighing limits and over
15 pounds declined to 48% and 13%, respectively.
Average big bass weight was similar all fve years
and ranged rom 8.1 to 8.9 pounds.
For individual tourneys, 2008 was the best
or average winning weight (23.2 pounds). For
both 2008 and 2009, it took over 19 pounds to
place in the top three, but weights declined to 16
to 17 pounds in 2011 and 2012. Although catch
o keeper bass in individual tournaments was
relatively high (31 to 54% o anglers weighed
in limits during the last 5 years), the percent o
anglers catching over 15 pounds declined to 3%
in 2012. Average big bass weight over the fve
years ranged rom 7.3 to 9.5 pounds. In summary, Sam Rayburn Reservoir receives
a signifcant amount o tournament-related
fshing eort. In act, including tournaments o
all sizes, over 400 tournaments occur annually
at Sam Rayburn with over 25,000 participants.
Given the signifcant number o tournaments,
trends in these tournament statistics continue
to reect a high quality largemouth bass shery
at Sam Rayburn Reservoir, and indicate that
numbers o bass greater than 4 pounds are
relatively high. However, it is still very important
that tourney anglers do all they can to minimize
tournament-related mortality. Given how rare
big fsh are, and their increased vulnerability to
stress associated with tournaments, they need
extra special care while in livewells. Contact
us with questions regarding proper fsh care
procedures by phone (409-698-9114) or email
Good luck and good fshing!

Hello Fellow Anglers. I there is one thing we should all agree on
it is that our personal created litter/trash should never fnd its way
to the roadway or in our lakes. Many o my ellow anglers have the
same strong eelings I do about litter/trash while others may not
think it is a big deal. Well, it is a big deal as it deaces the beauty
o the lakes as well as the boat ramp grounds where we all launch
our boats. The entire litter scene is a mega issue to say the least,
but or this column, I want to talk about how many o my ellow
anglers/boaters are contributing to the problem and how we can
prevent it.
Lets frst talk about how a lot o our litter fnds its way to the
roads and lake. Most o it has to do with anglers being careless or
lazy and not being willing to take a ew simple steps to prevent
trash rom getting out o their possession and scattered all over the
lake and along our roadways. While there are a ew o my ellow
outdoor sportsmen who will just throw trash directly in the lake
and on the ground, most will toss it in the back o their truck or
toss it in the bottom o their boat. All they are doing is delaying the
littering process until they hammer down on the boat throttle or
get under way on the road headed home.
I came down the lake just a ew days ago and in a mile stretch
I spotted three beverage cans oating in the water in the boat
run and they all were identical cans and in all likelihood, came
rom the same boat. This is just one example o many that I can
give and those o you reading this can also add your similar
experiences seeing trash oating. I get a sick feeling in my
stomach when I see this and this does not need to happen as there
is no excuse or it happening.
It is simple to prevent. Do not throw trash in the back o your
truck or on the bottom o your boat. I have had guests in my boat
who would lay an empty can in the bottom o my boat without
me being aware and when I got my boat on plane the beveragecan would y out. When that has happened on several occasions,
I immediately turn around and go pick it up. There is no way that
I would leave a can out there in the lake to trash the lake that my
ellow anglers/boaters use. 100% No way!!
ADOPT A 100% NO TRASH POLICY: For years now, I have
adopted a 100% no trash policy in my boat/truck and it is not hard
to do and teaches our kids/grandkids the importance o keeping
Gods creation clean. It is simple, put litter where it should be
and whatever trash you or your party generates to dispose o it
in its proper place. Also, I strongly encourage our public ofcials
to enorce the laws on the books regarding those who trash our
outdoors. As mentioned, it is vital to train our kids to be good
keepers o our outdoors and encourage them to pick up trash and
not even think about throwing it down. They can easily be taught
the right thing about litter and when properly given examples they
actually enjoy keeping things trash ree. I taught early, they will
become strong advocates o a cleaner environment.
PLEASE FOLKS, LETS DO BETTER! You may think you cannot
make a dierence but you can. Im here to tell you that you
can! Not only should we rerain rom throwing trash down but I
encourage us to pick up trash where ever you see it and especially
at boat landings and parks. Also, I plan to contact our SRA (Sabine
River Authority) olks here on south Toledo and ask or additional
trash cans to be placed in more convenient places to make it easier
on those o us who use these acilities. Personally, I am going to
try harder to make a dierence in this area and ask you to join
with me and others who have the same passion we have about this
issue. We can make a dierence!

Scott David & Harold Moore Win 1st placeat BLT on Sam Rayburn
Daylight on March 11 was reasonably calm, but every team
that trailered around Sam Rayburn to their chosen launch site
to fsh the BLT tournament was keenly aware that bad weather
was imminent. Through it all, our sacks over the 20 pound mark
crossed the scales, and Harold Moore & Scott David ultimately took
the win with nearly 25 pounds.
Anglers had until roughly 10am to fsh in reasonably calm
weather. Then a strong line o thunderstorms marched through
the area packing with it strong winds and cold temperatures. Some
got o the water, waiting or the storm to pass in their vehicles.
Others stayed out in it and endured the harsh weather trying to
take the opportunity to get ahead.
BLT anglers are allowed to trailer in all events, and when bad
weather hits like it did this day they are grateul or it. All lines
must be reeled in by 3pm and anglers have to be in the weigh in
line by 4pm.
As the procession o anglers with their bags o bass began to
register their catch at the scales, it didnt take long or Scott David
and Harold Moore to seize the lead and ultimate win with their
24.80 lb limit. They started the Big Bass race with their 7.21 lb
kicker. Its been a while since this duo has hit the tournament scene,
but they showed back up swinging or a home run. We have a
spot that doesnt get a lot o pressure, Scott explained. We took
a look at it beore the tournament, and it was holding some good
fsh. The sky was getting dark. We picked up a topwater bait and
a senko, and caught a limit o keepers. Then we headed to some
bedding bass. Scott had a good one hit, but it broke his line. I
re-tied, threw back in and caught her, giving us our frst cull. Then
we went to another spot. Harold caught a 4 lbr on a senko,
and they culled another. I decided to try or another big one on
a bed with a senko. I got a bad backlash, and it took a while to
pick it out. While he was doing this, the bass had picked up his
bait. I set the hook on her, got her in and we moved to another
spot. They ound another good size bass in the shallow water.
We backed out, and just started an casting the area. Didnt catch
anything like that, so we moved a little closer. Thats when we
caught her and culled our last three pounder. We just loaded up
and came in ater that. They won 1st place with 24.80 pounds, but
others had bigger kickers in their creel or Big Bass. Thank the
Good Lord or looking ater us.
2nd place was won by Phillip Crelia and TJ Goodwyn with a
22.86 lb limit. We were fshing outside the grass line in 4 to 8
with rattle traps and square bill crank baits, Crelia reported. We
caught a fve pounder right o the bat, then two other keepers.
Staying on the go, hitting an estimated 25 spots, slowly but surely
they got two more in the boat completing a limit. The weather

Todd Castledine and Billy Howell came in
with a nice limit weighing in at 21.41 pounds
to win 3rd place overall. They started their
day catching a ew, but the bite was tough.
Beore the storm hit, Billy caught our secondbiggest fsh o the day. At that point with
the storm nearly on top o them, they chose
to head to the truck to ride it out. Once the
storm cleared, they got back at it and fnished
up a small limit. They chose inside grass lines
with a prototype swim bait rom Kicker Fish
kicker weighing 8.56 lbs. From that point on
we just continued to cull up. Todd would like
to thank Kicker Fish, Legend Boats, Mercury,
Hydrowave, Power Pole, Combat Lures and
Canon LED Lights. Billy would like to also
thank Deep Sea Drilling Services and TFO
rods.
The Big Bass o the day went into doubledigits -10.27 lbs. Jim Nix caught the big sow
fshing with partner John Packard. It was
the only keeper I caught all day! He caught
it on a swim jig in the grass, 5 or 6 deep. It
was 7:30, beore the storm hit. She ought
hard. I just wore her down and she laid in
she got close to the boat.! Great timing to
achieve a personal best!
