National Nutrition Month – “Go

Further With Food”

*SMART SHOPPING*

Buy small amounts frequently!

Some fresh fruits & vegetables don’t last long. Buy small amounts

more often to ensure you can eat the foods without throwing any

away.

Celebrate the Season! Use fruits and veggies that are in season.

They are easy to get, have more flavor and are usually less expen-

sive.

Stick to your list! Plan out meals ahead of time and make a grocery

list. You will save money by buying only what you need. Don’t shop

hungry!

March is Disability Awareness Month! Here are five tips to help you along in talking to kids about disabilities: 1. It’s Okay to Be Curious Take the lead and offer a short, matter-of-fact description. The reason you want to be casual and factual is to show your child that a disability is not something shameful: “The lady is wearing hearing aids. Her ears work differently than yours. The hearing aids help her to hear.” 2. Use Respectful Words When talking to kids about disabilities it’s important to use the right terminology. For instance, to speak of someone as “having autism” or being “on the autism spectrum” as opposed to saying, “He’s autistic.” 3. Point Out Similarities You might, for instance, point out that a child with Down syndrome loves her puppy, loves to wear purple, and loves to listen to music, “Just like you!” The idea here is to show your child that the person with a disability is not the disability, but a person much like other people, with feelings, likes, and dislikes. 4. Emphasize Strengths

It’s important that your child learn to see people’s worth and what they can do, which is so much more important than what someone cannot do. 5. Bullying Is Wrong! Make sure your child understands that no bullying is an absolute rule and to be kind to everyone-regardless of their abilities. Bridgid Lukas Home School Facilitator

Dear Parents, Sign-ups for the Crown Point Jr. Bulldog

Football Season will be held on April 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th

from 12:00PM to 3:00 PM, located in the second level of

our Club House at 1401 East North Street Crown Point, IN

46307. Any player ages 6 to 13 years old, currently in 7th

grade and below, are eligible to play. All children from

Crown Point and our neighboring communities are

welcome to participate. Presently, we have players from

nearly 30 surrounding communities playing in our league.

League Info: Our history dates back to 1953, when our league

was started with just one team. Fast-forwarding to 2018, we

have a total of 8 teams, with three age divisions and more

than 500 players. In 2011, we completed the construction of

two new state-of-the-art turf fields/stadium. All of our games

are played on Saturday in our stadium; there is ZERO travel

involved. Kids play in their own age group, regardless of

their weight. Practices are held weeknights from 6:00 to 7:30;

all teams have their own practice area.

Priding ourselves on having the best and safest gear for our

children, all of our equipment is inspected annually and

replaced frequently. For the 2018 season, we purchased

another 352 new helmets to compliment the new equipment

that was purchased last year. Also, all of our equipment is

hand washed prior to being sanitized in an OZONE machine

and finally stored in a climate-controlled room.

Safety First, it is at the forefront of everything we do and our

top priority for our coaching staff. As a precautionary

measure, an Athletic Trainer is present at all practices and

games. As an added value, Franciscan Health Care will be

administering Baseline Concussion testing FREE of charge at

Crown Point High School prior to the start of our season.

Additionally, it's a requirement that all of our coaches go

through ‘Heads Up’ Safety Certification prior to the start of

the season. With the majority of our coaches being father’s of

players, there is an emphasis to teach the fundamentals of

football, while developing a passion for the game and most

importantly, HAVING FUN!
